I wish they'd put it in the main paper rather than the Scotland section:

@rabbitwoman

Although I have reported your post, happydays, to some degree I see your point.

This debate, this fight, has obviously taken it's toll on Graham. He has paid a really high price for standing up for what he believes in. For me, it's a disgrace and supreme unfairness that history won't remember what an integral part he has played in turning the tide and exposing some of the worst aspects of this debacle,because when it ends - and end it shall - it will be with no fanfare, no announcements, thise responsible will just fade away and probably pretend they never said anything, try to forget it.... Whilst this man's reputation will be tarnished forever.

Well, I won't forget, he is amazing and I am grateful to him for what he does.

This with bells. I know this situation will pass and I hope I will be here when it does. We mustn’t forget who fought for and against. Many will be scrambling to erase the evidence of being on the wrong side.
HatsOnHatsOff · 04/09/2021 11:53

Thank you Graham, we owe you a huge debt of gratitude. I wish I was as brave and articulate as you.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/09/2021 11:57

The --sly digs— descriptors in the article gave me the strong impression that Graham has a problem with alcohol

LizzieSiddal · 04/09/2021 12:21

I sometimes worry about him and think he should do less social media. Write a book about this subject maybe? But then I remember he is a comedy writer , not an academic. His mind just doesn't work like that ; he is protean , impulsive and a bit impatient. He can't help jumping off at tangent or dropping his line of reasoning to tell a joke or anecdote.

Very much agree with you here but I still wish he’d take a break from it all, he should put himself first for a few weeks. I worry about him.

GertrudeKerfuffle · 04/09/2021 12:22

I'm another one adding my voice to say thank you, Graham. You are an inspiration.

Yes, it got quite nastily personal at times. Angry
Scout2016 · 04/09/2021 12:37

He is great. I would be interested in reading his autobiography if he were to write one once this is over. First half comedy and celebrity circles, 2nd half campaigns on abortion and this and mixing with a whole different sector of society. Appearing on the baronesses webinars instead of have I got news for you.
I wouldn't want him to write it just out of being skint though, and somehow don't think he would.

Scout2016 · 04/09/2021 12:42

I agree that mentions of afternoon negrois and looking peaky are questionable and feel sly and designed to undermine. Someone else looking and acting the same way and it would have been while different spin, like "aren't they quirky and talkative, rock and roll afternoon cocktail, workaholic night owl..."

Scout2016 · 04/09/2021 12:43

*baroness's

Saucery · 04/09/2021 12:52

He’s always been shy and diffident in interviews, since way before his standing up for the rights of women. But still his detractors bang on about it, twist it to being ‘twitchy’…..the boring, looks-obsessed little twonks 🙄

PaleBlueMoonlight · 04/09/2021 14:03

He is a very good man.

Mollyollydolly · 04/09/2021 14:07

I've said this on here before - a few years ago I went to the BAFTAs - a programme I worked on was nominated and the IT Crowd won loads of awards. We all got on a coach to go to some swanky hotel for a meal after the awards and Graham was on the same coach as me. At the time I just thought "Graham Linehan brilliant comedy writer" If I was on that coach today I'd shake his hand and tell him how much I admire his bravery, passion and integrity. Some things are more important than the most brilliant of comedies.

PankhurstConnection · 04/09/2021 14:29

@MorrisZapp

He co-wrote Motherland too, which has been something of a sleeper smash hit. He's far from the writing scrap heap!

This man is the epitome of brave, and dare I say chivalrous. When he sees women being treated like shit, he uses his status to help because he simply can't not.

I met him last week at the Scottish Parliament demo, he indulged my mum with a lovely picture and was so smiley to all the women who wanted to thank him or shake hands.

He's mind-boggling tall. And just a kind person. So grateful for decent men like him, I have a personal shitlist of guys who absolutely should be standing firm for us like this giant does.

I was lucky enough to meet him too and if anything it increased my admiration and thanks for him. I felt the same about meeting Posie (if anything I was more awed meeting her as I think she is a FORCE), Kate from Keep Prisons single sex (her cause being one of utmost importance to me) and a few other 'names' and I am so grateful to them all.

Graham was a gentleman, kind, patient and very amusing. I think we are lucky to have him and so many smart women in this fight. So thank you Graham - oh and thanks for Father Ted, still makes me laugh out loud to this day. You are a lovely, decent man.

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/09/2021 14:43

I do hope @glinner is reading this. Thank you Glinner.

I'm also encouraged by the comments under the article - quite a few people clearly new to this saying "What? This can't be right, why did I not know?" and being directed to more sources of information, including the "Break it down for me" thread here on MN.

Can I just mention James Dreyfus - another kind and very funny man who has paid a high price personally and professionally for standing up for women against the TRAs.

LobsterNapkin · 04/09/2021 14:48

The comments were interesting, I think there are more and more people who grasp the problem.

He's done a lot of good work though I agree with those who say that it's important to take things at a sustainable level. Which means taking care of yourself and sometimes taking breaks, even if it does seem like a house on fire.

I think his comments about Trump were somewhat off kilter. People aren't using similar techniques because Trump is somehow influencing things, it's because that is what works in the current media environment.

Motnight · 04/09/2021 17:15

Thank you Graham.

Fitt · 04/09/2021 17:25

I can't imagine he would be single for long if he wanted to find a new relationship, he's a lovely fella.

GrabbingTheWorldByTheLapels · 04/09/2021 17:30

@glinner Thank you. For all you have sacrificed. You could have closed your eyes - your life would have been much easier. You really have done what is right rather than what was easy. But you have done so much good.

We’re in the heat of the battle now but I always remember the phrase - there is the least light before dawn breaks. It is at point that it has been the longest since last seeing light.

But dawn always comes and good will prevail and you will have played your part.

Hang on in there - you have so much support. Look at the comments on The Times Article. This support will become more vocal as the silent majority find their voice.

EsmaCannonball · 04/09/2021 17:44

Glinner is supremely rational so the implication that he's so obsessive he's making himself ill was rather unpleasant.

Pudmyboy · 04/09/2021 18:41

@IvyTwines2
If you're young, you're a passionate and heroic 'activist', but if you're over 35, you're characterised as an obsessive.
This.
Like @LoislovesStewie (and many more I hope!) I watched 'Small, Far Away the World of Father Ted' and I did notice how Glinner looks a bit careworn now, though that could just be natural ageing! Like others, I really hope @glinner, you take good care of yourself because you bloody well deserve it.
You are a star. We won't forget you or what you have done for us.

NotGCTUR · 04/09/2021 18:51

Can't bear this man.

sansgender · 04/09/2021 19:31

@orangejuicer

Would re watching IT crowd and Father Ted help in any way? Ratings etc?
He sent an email round earlier this year asking people to watch Count Arthur Strong on Netflix, a very underrated show of his. I'm not sure if he benefits directly, but I've recently started watching it and it's hilarious

Really? I’m just watching it again now. I prefer to The IT Crowd tbh. I know Arthur as a character already existed but Glinner’s writing alongside Steve Delaney’s is just sublime. It’s my favourite Comfort Watch.
More than happy to watch it again and again, particularly the Seance, the Jack THe Ripper Ice Cream Van and the Safari Park Grin
