This is a continuation of the thread at;

Shameful incoherent, poorly-referenced, completely biased piece of journalism from the Guardian

The quote in the title is from Dave Hewitt's essay published today;

The Guardian's Ideological dead-end

As you can likely guess, he eviscerates The Guardian, and leaves its rotting carcase out-in-the-sun for the vultures to pick over.

Quite simply, Guardian readers have once again been fed a pack of Alex Jones-style falsehoods, this time over the Wi-Spa scandal. As usual, LOJ contributed to the attempts to hoodwink the readership, and for the most part it seemed to have worked. Until Andy Ngo exposed the entire rotting falsehood in what has proven to be the journalistic scoop-of-the-year to date.

Hewitt details how The Guardian's world-view has seen it simply unable to present itself as a reliable news source, with it now peddling deliberate falsehoods and fake-news, in much the same way the right-wing press in the US is accused of. The Guardian though has gone further in its commitment to falsehood; all the complainants in the Wi-Spa scandal were Black women, so The Guardian had determined to deprive those women of their legitimate voices - a fundamentally racist act.

I'm not sure what the owners of The Guardian - The Scott Trust, have as a business model. Hoping that the readership and subscribers are easily or willingly fooled by whatever lies the hacks write doesn't seem to be a long-term strategy. That though is precisely where The Guardian is today, having abandoned facts are sacred as a creed, replaced with lies are paramount.

It was Gaby Hinsliff who wrote that article about Cologne in the Guardian.

RedDogsBeg · 04/09/2021 21:54

Ah was it, thanks OldCrone.

@Franca123

How on earth does the Guardian report on the Taliban and women rights? I'm pretty sure that as a woman in Afghanistan I couldn't identify as a man and have all the rights men get. Surely when they're discussing this they have to use one of the terms like, uterus-havers in order to be accurate. Or do they know it's a wink wink thing with the reader - you know what we mean when we say female in this piece. Bonkers.
I think - but it may just be too complex for me as a woman in my 40s - that it is still OK for people of colour from countries with oppressive regimes in place to be women. Because they haven't been civilised yet so they don't know about the rainbow myriad of gender identities which are waiting for them once they have sorted out some of the smaller details like voting and education and basic human rights. So that's transmen sorted out - they, once again, don't really matter to the Glitterati.

AND, as we all know, transwomen are the most oppressed minority in the world ever. So they are all there in Afghanistan right now totally wishing they could be wandering around in a burqa not going to school and getting collectively raped and forcibly married and being only half a person in law etc etc but unable to do so because it would give the game away and they would be getting oppressed all over the place quicker than you could say 'gold lane clutch'. But properly oppressed. Not like the women are oppressed, much much much worse - oppressed like only trans women can be opressed.

AND the level of cultural relativism that identity politics can produce is truly terrifying so you'll probably find another answer is that 'it's cultural'. Which will be said with a withering look and a quote-tweet of Drs Harrop and Jessen circle jerking over who can agree with forced marriage quickest.

Those are my theories on this particular blindspot.

JulesJules · 04/09/2021 22:05

I'm half sorry we have already cancelled our subscription to the Guardian, I'd really like to cancel it again.

aliasundercover · 04/09/2021 22:18

It was Gaby Hinsliff:
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jan/08/cologne-attacks-hard-questions-new-years-eve
It was this article and the previous lack of coverage that made me realise how bad the Guardian had become. Little did I know this was just the beginning.

aliasundercover · 04/09/2021 22:19

Sorry, just realised how late my previous post was.

nauticant · 04/09/2021 22:39

The Guardian unwittingly walking itself into a woke version of PIE is like something Chris Morris would think up. With the irony being that in the current age no one would dare putting it on the telly.

To risky for a fictional telly programme but OK for actual reality.

nauticant · 04/09/2021 22:44

That should be Too risky.

An unforgiveable mistake. I've let myself down, I've let you all down, but most of all I've let MN down.

justasking111 · 04/09/2021 23:03

Well read a few spa articles it is said Darren had an erection in the women's section. Also a convicted sex offender. I can see the objections to this being quite rational.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2021 23:19

NewMutiny

Yes.

This does my head in and has done for ages.

Loads and loads of orgs individuals that are totally onboard with gender > sex in some circs happily use eg woman meaning female elsewhere.

It's fucking two faced cowardly hypocrisy and it makes me so angry..

Put you money where your fucking mouth is.

If in some cases it's menstruators etc.
If in some cases woman girl she is gender id not sex.

Then why the fuck are you reporting on the uighar women, women in Afghanistan. Females. That's transphobic.

Come on.

People with vaginas facing up to future in Afghanistan. The taleban is clear about penis people and those with vulvas having very different roles in society and impose them with violence.

People assumed to have ovaries who were juvenile and attended school have been a target for the testicle person orientated taleban. Schools have been burnt down/bombed if they had students who had vaginas.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2021 23:25

And this shows the utter contempt. Of it all.

Also all sorts of dodgy views.

Apparently male female is an oppressive concept spread by colonists. / Colonial oppressors.

I mean what the fuck/? People in India/parts of Africa etc didn't know about dick/ cunt > baby? Before the English/ Spanish etc came and imposed that view? That's saying that... Seriously??!!??

And that now. People >>> over there don't get their gender identities respected? Why not?

If it's important to use people with vaginas in the UK then why not globally?

Well we all know the answer. Cowardly hypocritical misogynist fucking wankers.

donquixotedelamancha · 04/09/2021 23:37

For somebody who has been acclaimed as brilliant and a powerful voice

You are mistaken, the PP you replied to was refering to the YouTuber Owen Jones, not whoever you meant.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2021 23:40
Sorry link

meaww.com/wi-spa-incident-transphobic-darren-merager-charged-exposing-partially-erect-penis
And this is the whole fucking problem.

There is NO way to tell if a male has internal gender feelings that means they are apparently magically not a risk to women and girls.

The person at the spa had the right in law to go into the female area. The spa would have been acting illegally to even bat an eyelid.

Women and girls are being pushed to turn a blind eye. (As per sodding usual with things that males do to make them uncomfy).

Darren has, given the law, an absolutely inviolable argument that they were allowed to be there. That's the law.

If Darren had not got a semi no crime would have been committed.

The discomfort of males in spaces like this is irrelevant. The law says that.

The fact that plenty of men can and do enjoy making women and girls feel scared/ uncomfortable. But not doing things that are illegal. Is irrelevant. The law in California does not consider that. Not relevant/ even thought about.

If Darren had concealed etc erection. Had a wank before went in to avoid it. In law. No problems. Any complaint bigotry.

And further.

There's a lot of women do it too with this. And using the idea that women who are safe sex attracted display similar sexual behaviour to men. (Deeply lesbophobic). Leading to. Females being aroused is not so obvious. Sexual arousal can happen any old time. Erections are involuntary and can happen with no external prompt.
So it's transphobic to freak out at a penis that's getting a hard on. It can't be helped! Females in there could be aroused and who would know? That's deeply unfair on those with diverse bodies.

These laws/ changes to convention are a huge issue.

Darren can go there. Why shouldn't they?

....

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2021 23:43

But the same people who say children in USA should get used to being naked around random dick.

Post about the situation for women and girls under taleban for example.

Not vagina owners, menstruators etc. And about sex based oppression.

Arseholes the lot of them and imo pretty racist/ patronising etc etc.

Whole thing is a shitshow. Wtf are these pundits thinking? Can't they see their own massive obvious gross hypocrisy?

LazyViper · 04/09/2021 23:51

It's been five years since a Guardian journalist last won an award, and four years since even a sports columnist was recognised, so its writers are now really 'B' tier ones at best.

Not disagreeing with the sentiment at all, but I think Marina Hyde won 3 journalism awards in 2020. And the Guardian won a few Press Awards (for ‘reliable reporting and analysis’, lol) last year. None of that stops them being a heap of sanctimonious misogynistic bilge, apart from Marina, but just noting it for the pedants among us. Grin

JohnRokesmith · 05/09/2021 00:04

@dyslek

The Guardian; the paper that was all in for, the war in Iraq and Nick Clegg.

Surely they are never wrong?

There are two things I can think of off the top of my head, does anyone have any more examples of the Grun great judgment?

I know it’s a while back now, but the Guardian was a supporter of the Confederacy during the American Civil War, in the belief that they were supporting the progressive side of the conflict. Abraham Lincoln was, after all, a Republican.
person78 · 05/09/2021 00:10

"a pack of Alex Jones-style falsehoods" is precisely the correct way to put it. The conspiracy theories that flourished about the supposed "actors" in an obviously real videoin which real women expressed what was obviously real anger and emotion about a distressing situationsmacked of Alex Jones' claims that the families of the murdered Sandy Hook Elementary children are "crisis actors."

In a bit of karmic justice, Alex Jones was sued over his defamatory statements, and lost. Would be nice if the same happened to others who defamed the women involved here.

NiceGerbil · 05/09/2021 00:24

I doubt any papers that have been around for yonks have a record of awesome judgement.

Getting into the past is interesting but in the end pretty irrelevant.

What they are doing now is utterly appalling.

And that's enough to discuss.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 05/09/2021 02:40

To be fair, the Guardian's take on the US Civil War was fairly nuanced:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2011/feb/24/1865-guardian-stance-us-civil-war

I wonder how long it will be before the Guardian calls for special exemptions or substantial revision of the laws about indecent exposure in line with Merager's preferences.

NiceGerbil · 05/09/2021 03:12

That's the job of the USA guardian arm surely with WiSpa

Thing is Darren has a good point

Legally allowed to be there and naked.
Does throw up??? about how indecent exposure laws work in that situation.

And given the law says aok for Darren to be there naked. I think that Darren has a good argument tbh.

Because the laws don't work together at all.

I can't see them changing the self id for all services etc etc.

So... What are they going to do?

I suspect with the criminal history prosecute and say look it's all fine. The rare unusual situation with a male who is not trans taking advantage has been handled well. So what's the problem.

Leave the laws as is.

Continue telling women girls they should turn a blind eye or they're bigots. If you don't like it don't go there/ commit a crime/ go too far from home so need public toilets etc.

The end game ignores the risk to women and girls completely as demonstrated on loads of Twitter articles in media etc.

The end game is to make this happen. And persuade women and girls not to complain. And that's that.

The responses to this incident from so many papers, people with a voice that's heard etc were utterly disgusting.

Don't believe women. If something did happen they're making a fuss. If a woman has the wrong politics/ religion she should be ignored anyway. Girls should not feel concerned about random cock. Etc etc.

Rape myths from our 'progressive' elite.

Lovely.

Stopsnowing · 05/09/2021 06:27

The latest Guardian article still says the complainant at the spa was using transphobic language.

AlfonsoTheMango · 05/09/2021 09:33

I, for one, hope The Guardian continues down the path of total lunacy as it is amusing to watch their readership number plummet.

The latest www.abc.org.uk/product/2451 shows their circulation down to 105,134. For comparison their circulation in 2020 was 132,341.

The 2021 circulation figure is the lowest since 1939, when it was 51,000.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/09/2021 09:42

given the law says aok for Darren to be there naked. I think that Darren has a good argument tbh.

You are right but he's still also breaking the indecent exposure laws.

In practice the issue is whether a jury accept that he's a woman because he says he is and so waving his womanly penis at other women is fine.

It seems that, even in one of the wokest cities on earth, juries keep finding that he's not a woman but a male predator. Funny that.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/09/2021 09:44

The latest Guardian article still says the complainant at the spa was using transphobic language.

The only thing I can think, from the video, is that she kept calling the convicted sex offender with his cock out a man.
