Can't see this elsewhere, apologies if I'm duplicating. I'll stick it on the Scottish action thread too.
Is anyone off here going, or involved?

I was there today and the idea that the wee dafties that were protesting had anything to fear from the women (and men) that were there is just risible, especially given that there were a few antifa types who turned up to back them up.

While the woman from Keep Prisons Single Sex was speaking the words of the female prisoner who had brought the court case, one of the counter-protesters could be heard shouting "What about transwomen in men's prisons!!!" - complete and utter tone deaf male entitlement sums it all up.

I was proud to be there today, and as we were leaving there were still folk chanting "Shame on you!!!" at our pathetic so called representatives - well shame on you Fiona Robertson and all the rest of the great and the good who won't stand up for women and girls Angry

I so wish I could have gone! Well done all those that did - what a fab turnout.

I've posted this on a couple of other threads but it seems pertinent to add it to this one too (as it was published today) - the analysis of the second GRA consultation - www.gov.scot/publications/gender-recognition-reform-scotland-bill-analysis-responses-public-consultation-exercise/

2Rebecca · 02/09/2021 23:20

To passers by it probably looked as though the people with trans flags were supporting us. I'm not sure I'd turn up to someone else's protest in case it made me look part of it and swelled the numbers

Iamstrongiaminvinsible · 02/09/2021 23:34

I have rejoined tonight to applaud you all.
I was also thinking of Helen Reddy and thought it was apt.

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
You can bend but never break me
'Cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'Cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong
I am woman

We sung that in the pub in Glasgow after Marion’s hearing at court, it’s a great song

WouldBeGood · 02/09/2021 23:36

@Rhannion are any more planned?

Rhannion · 02/09/2021 23:37

There was no jukebox, but I has a wee speaker 🔈

Rhannion · 02/09/2021 23:39

Marion has another hearing in October 3 or 4, I can’t remember just which day so we will need to be there for her again then at Glasgow Sheriff court.

Wickedwaterwitch · 02/09/2021 23:41

David Paisley threat level.
This is brilliant
Iamstrongiaminvinsible · 02/09/2021 23:42

Amazing song. That was 1971. 40 years ago!! And we still need to sing it

Aparallaxia · 03/09/2021 01:15

Quite a difference from this, littlbrowndog:

www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/12/01/snp-equalities-convenor-lynne-anderson-lgb-alliance-jk-rowling-for-women-scotland/

Can you clear something up for me? This announcement

www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/k497uh/the_snp_have_released_the_results_of_this_years/

says that Fiona Robertson was replaced by Lynne Anderson as equalities convenor. But maybe I have not understood the situation? Has Robertson now replaced Anderson again? This blog has an, erm, interesting take on events:

'Both Angus MacLeod and Fiona Roberston were voted off the SNP National Executive Committee late in 2020, but Robertson was invited back unelected to continue making peoples’ lives miserable.'

grousebeater.wordpress.com/2018/11/28/a-heinous-crime/

Any clarification welcome.

Aparallaxia · 03/09/2021 01:20

Fiona Robertson's Twitter thread is beyond belief. I think she must be off her meds: 'openly fascist' indeed. If there any fascists, they have all joined the SNP and the SGP.

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/09/2021 02:08

You can watch all the speeches from the demo.

Interesting factoid is that one of the Conservative MSPs that supported the demo is former international athlete Brian Whittle

I just met with some of my constituents and members of
@ForwomenScot
who are outside the Scottish Parliament today defending women’s rights. This is a debate and discussion that needs to happen in a serious and pragmatic way. #womenwontwheesht

Possibly his sporting background helps appreciate the issues

InvisibleDragon · 03/09/2021 10:51

I'm really annoyed about the picture the Times photographer chose for their article about the protest.

Midway through the speeches, an activist from the counter demonstration forced their way into the crowd and started using a megaphone to shout "get hate off our streets" over and over again. They were aggressive and refused to move, despite being repeatedly asked to leave by women, PCSOs and police officers. That person, deliberately disrupting the peaceful demonstration, is the person pictured at the top of the article.

The picture has a bit of aggro, a bit of interest, but it deliberately misrepresents what was happening at the protest and centers someone who was not part of the peaceful rally, but deliberately disrupting it.

Mochudubh · 03/09/2021 11:23

I watched the BBC news with my fairly unwoke DH (to whom I have not yet revealed the full extent of my late-onset feminism).

When he saw the TRA with the "Trans Women are Women" placard he just said "No they're not, they're f*cking blokes"! Which I think sums up reality and also what the silent majority believe.

Hopefully more and more people will feel able to admit that the Emperor is well and truly naked.

334bu · 03/09/2021 11:48

Yes the picture is deceptive as most of the people crowding round that woman were actually photographers , including two accompanying her, as she tried to push past police and stewards. . There was so much "aggro " that when she dropped her wee megaphone thing and the batteries rolled out, she was handed them back by women in the crowd , so that she could continue her protest.

oneglassandpuzzled · 03/09/2021 12:04

Well done to you in Scotland! Proud of you and grateful.

Oh, is that what they were saying! I watched the live protest and couldn't hear properly. Just loud noises over the top of the women's voices.

Yes, that is misleading, it looks like the person with the megaphone is one of the women's rights protestors.
