After years (I’m not exaggerating) of women writing to the Department of Health, the new minister has at least, and at last, acknowledged there is a problem. It’s a sliver of hope. Keep the pressure up!

I will be watching him with interest, he is my MP.

I emailed him years ago about this issue, he ignored me. I called his office they refused to let me speak to him and told me I couldn't arrange a meeting.

After badgering them for an answer to my email I received a letter explaining that TWAW and are the most oppressed group in society and basically telling me to sod off.

I know alot of women contacted him and received identical letters.

I'd ring up and ask for an appointment at his constituency surgery. Don't tell the staffer what it concerns, just state that it's confidential. Then you should get him face-to-face without anyone gatekeeping.

One of the surprises for me over the past few years has been that "Conservative Woman" is a pretty sound magazine, at least on gender issues. They have been publishing good articles, written by people of the calibre of James Kirkup, which presumably have influenced their rank and file.

I think it is no coincidence that Liz Truss is seen as surprisingly popular amongst party members.

At heart I think there is a big difference between the Labour and Conservative party memberships. The first often seem to operate in an urban, almost illiberal, bubble. The second may be a mixed bag, but at least you can be pretty sure that they will be small "c" conservative on gender issues.
