Hubbard achieved what Hubbard wanted. A place at the olympics. It wasn’t about winning it was about acceptance and breaking barriers. Now the barrier has been broken it will happen again and again. BMX, cycling, rowing, running. This time they will win. Believe they lost on purpose. There is no way they got to the olympics and performed so poorly. It’s a game and a show and they have won.

Yeah, but at least we got a head tilt and heart hands at the end.

Oh god, really?

Congratulations to the GB silver winner, Emily Campbell!

Doesn’t this inadvertently make an argument for puberty blockers though?

I don't think it would be successful though, Broccoli. People are horrified by the use of experimental drug treatments on healthy children, and resistance to that is growing as more people become aware of what's been going on.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 02/08/2021 15:05

@Bryonyshcmyony

Apparently they are looking at the system after the Olympics to make sure it upholds "everyone's rights"

If that means women's rights I'll be amazed

Everyone but women
KevinBaconsJeans · 02/08/2021 15:05

@TedImgoingmad I don't expect young athletes to speak out but it's disappointing when they speak against their own interests. Her silver would be a bronze if Hubbard was in shape.

Also, love your name Grin

Bone density issues, endocrine issues and stunted growth could potentially make athletic competition a pipe dream.

TedImgoingmad · 02/08/2021 15:24

Oh thanks, Kevin. I have a Dougal moment at least once a day reading these pages.

Datun · 02/08/2021 15:36

Good, it's so insulting.

People watch women's sport to celebrate outstanding female athletes. Not rubbish male athletes.

Here we are again, providing a bloody service.

merrymouse · 02/08/2021 15:37

No, because the arguments against puberty blockers are completely different.

CharlieParley's Fri 30-Jul-21 17:06:58 Post on this thread is very informative on the problems with GnRH analogues.

The fact that male puberty confers physical advantages doesn't make Puberty Blockers more safe or mean that the science exists to enable somebody to change sex.

This. I find it hard to imagine that anyone who has spent years on puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones would be in a position to compete against the healthiest athletes. If they have also undergone significant surgery on their genitals, I imagine that would also take a toll on their physical health.
NecessaryScene · 02/08/2021 15:46

The main problem would be potentially incentivising individuals to go down that puberty blocker path in the belief that it would theoretically let them compete.

Even if there was no chance of them unfairly competing with women, you don't want to give children yet another fantasy about what these drugs could achieve.

They also seem to spend a lot of time concerned with other ideals of fashion and make up tik tick etc.

Serious athletes have no time for all the stuff that's entailed with aiming for Olympic dreams.

Also, huge amounts of sport and possibly outside fresh air and vit D is likely to support mental health which may well avert / support / help dysphoria. There's been many studies in the impact of sports and exercise on the developing hippocampus, an area of the grain that's developing in teen years and helps with rationality, overriding childish outbursts from the amygdala etc.

Also, sheep studies (which are studied as their brains are closest to ours when developing apparently) show that PBs actually inhibit the hippocampus.

What a sad life.

nauticant · 02/08/2021 17:25

PM on Radio 4 is being surprisingly gender critical.

Carolyn Quinn seems to be avoiding calling Hubbard a "woman" or "she" while Alyson Rudd from The Times commented about how the IOC rules were done without much regard to actual science.

Oh no, the stuff I write on a public forum to be read by people will be read by more people.

The shame. Blush

Wasn't there a thing on Reddit where a group decided to repost all the stuff from r/GenderCritical?

It was a great way of getting more people to read our thoughts than might have otherwise seen it. I've seen lots of people say it's how they found r/GC.
