It doesn't make a difference if this middle aged male is subpar. Hubbard should never have been there. He took an opportunity from a young woman who did deserve to be there.

In some respects it's just as much of a travesty that he is twice their age, unfit and with terrible technique. Makes a mockery of what the Olympics are supposed to be.

For anyone who thinks it doesn't matter because he didn't win needs to remember that this sets precedent so the next country to send a male person into the female weightlifting competition (or any other sports category) might send someone who is 20 years old and at the pinnacle of male bodied fitness.

Hubbard failed the snatch

The satire just writes itself.

Let's also not forget millionaire. No crowd funding for this competitor.

Hubbard didn't even lift one thing?

Is that them done?

What a fucking joke.

I'm so angry I found myself despising him. I thought gosh I am transphobic, but no I'm don't despise him because he is trans I despise him because he is a cheat, has taken the place of a woman and is such a mediocre weightlifter.
If I've read it right women have only been competing in weightlifting since 2000.
Interesting this article says that female representation on the Olympic committee is a measley 20%.

Hubbard has a best of 132.

Video in link. It's like a real life version of the 'Behold' meme. You'll know what I mean when you watch it.

Shameful.

But Eurosport switched of the woman’s weightlifting 🤷‍♀️ Now

Bitofachinwag · 02/08/2021 13:09

@Horehound

Is this Hubbard's goal though? O mentioned it on another thread and wondered if this gives an agenda to approve transwomen in women's sport
Possibly. " Look, transwomen don't always win, it's fine for them to compete with women".

This is exactly what I feel, too.
BoreOfWhabylon · 02/08/2021 13:12

I think the only fair way forward is to exclude anyone who has gone through male puberty, for whatever reason, from ever competing as a female

viques · 02/08/2021 13:13

Feeling it for Hubbard.Grin Crap weightlifter as a man. Crap weightlifter as a woman. Maybe time for them to muscle in on a new sport , wonder what their 200m time is?

Thanks, Nauticant, will have a look. A bit late to the games today and haven’t had much chance to catch up on news and details.

Frankly, I’ve been enjoying the Olympics too much and still recovering from Worthington’s BMX flip (wow), and Shriever’s track win (guts), the swimmers, the GB gymnastics Bronze, Helen Glover’s comeback story even though she and Swann came fourth.

So much to admire in these amazing women.

Surely swimming in Paris? Only 3 years away.
ItsSnowJokes · 02/08/2021 13:15

And just think that Hubbard could now stop all hormone treatment for the next 2 years get all the gains and then start taking hormones 12 months before the next Olympics......... sigh......

Doesn’t this inadvertently make an argument for puberty blockers though?

Surely anyone with XY chromosomes should be excluded from women’s sport. It’s the only way to be truly fair. It’s unfortunate for DSD athletes but it’s the only way to ensure fairness. (I also think that the tinkering with testosterone for DSD athletes gives validation to allowing male athletes into women’s sport).

Having lived for the past 30 years, I know if I'd had surgery at the age of 22, and then at 24 went on the tour, no genetic woman in the world would have been able to come close to me. And so I've reconsidered my opinion." - Renee Richards, who fought to compete in women's tennis at the age of 37, speaking in 2017.

For some reason, this quote seems to get zero publicity when TW participation in female sport is discussed.

Odd.

ItsSnowJokes · 02/08/2021 13:20

I have come to the conclusion we do desperately need a third category. It should only be for XX chromosomes and we can call it the women's category.

I believe the prize was the place on the women’s team. The medal is irrelevant. A woman has lost out and Hubbard gets to woman in the olympics. End of.

Tokyo Olympics: Laurel Hubbard out of weightlifting after failing to register successful lift www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/58054891

Ha, now even I'm wondering about the Trojan horse theory!

Bryonyshcmyony · 02/08/2021 13:30

I'm glad Hubbard is out as now I can actually watch it and it's amazing.

CallMeNutribullet · 02/08/2021 13:35

The truth is that Hubbard is a poor weightlifter, relying on their biological advantage to have made it this far.

When Laurel was Gavin, he competed in his 20's against other males and was routinely beat. He got absolutely nowhere in amateur sport and wouldn't have been mentioned in the same breath as the Olympics.

Now Laurel is middle aged and out of shape, on the back of a serious injury and has still managed to reach the Olympic games competing against women half their age.

StandWithYou · 02/08/2021 13:40

There was a bit of a slip by the commentator right at the end of the clip for the first lift. She says and it ‘cost him’ before swiftly correcting it to ‘costly’.
