I've sent a very lengthy complaint via the website. Takes a lot to enrage me and shock me after following this stuff for years, but they managed it. Everyone should complain.

Nachthex · 02/08/2021 09:58

'Reluctant history maker'? 'People bringing hate'?

I suspect Hubbard wasn't forced onto that plane by the NZ government. Hubbard will thoroughly enjoy any wins. We all know here what 'hate' means in this context: speaking the truth. That from a news organisation. My god. Can they sink any lower?

Triphazards · 02/08/2021 10:05

Their Twitter is now packed with the "hate" they warned us about!

ScreamingMeMe · 02/08/2021 10:06

Blocking genuinely hateful posters is absolutely right ( and I don't doubt there willbe some genuinely transphobic responses), but I suspect that their definition of 'hate' will be quite broad.

Calling Hubbard 'reluctant' is a fucking joke as well.

zanahoria · 02/08/2021 10:08

They are taking the piss now

They know that nobody believes this bullshit but are publishing just to gloat that they can

Saltovinegar · 02/08/2021 10:10

According to the BBC LH is the first openly transgender athlete to compete at the Olympics. So is that an admittance that others have gone under the radar?

As far as I'm concerned LH is the first openly obvious cheating male to compete at the Olympics.

MNybvcx54 · 02/08/2021 10:11

Well that went well

nauticant · 02/08/2021 10:12

The BBC twitter account has been going through the replies hiding those wrongthink replies that it doesn't want other people to see. Sinister is overused but this kind of censorship is sinister.

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 02/08/2021 10:12

I think the vast majority of replies on there are rightfully angry incredulous that this has been allowed to happen. No "hate."

IvyTwines2 · 02/08/2021 10:13

The BBC seem to be following the Labour Party and Guardian into a death spiral on this, and at a time when, with huge pressure from the US streaming giants and the Tory Govt - something that looks increasingly like a permanent fixture - they really need public support. The BBC's USP was that they were seen to be impartial, honest, a reliable source of facts, and they are throwing that reputation away.

Veeta · 02/08/2021 10:14

Number one, I don’t think Laurel is a first - there have been others at this olympics already. Two, reluctant? Three, I’m genuinely considering cancelling my license fee, which I really don’t want to have to do. I will complain, but I don’t think complaints have as much impact as the removal of funds. How dare the BBC threaten to report dissenters to the ‘relevant authorities’?
As people have stated in the replies, this is classic BBC - bait with headline, then virtue signal as if they didn’t provoke and can’t understand the fuss.

MimiDaisy11 · 02/08/2021 10:14

I just saw the report on the BBC news channel about this "athlete" and it enraged me. Their bias is ridiculous.

First, they word it as the first time someone who changed genders has competed openly, not mentioning specifics - as if it's just a massive coincidence that it's a male in female sports and so could as likely be a female in males sports. Yeah right.

Then they cut to some dumb activist saying the science shows conclusively that there's no advantage.

What a joke!

Antinerak · 02/08/2021 10:14

If transphobes' are really that upset about being blocked on social media, it's probably best they are so they can witter away to themselves without inconveniencing anyone else with their lies.

I'm glad they're taking the bullshit Laurel is facing seriously, she deserved much better than this. I'm also glad they'll be getting the police involved- too fucking right they should.

Best of luck to her!

Veeta · 02/08/2021 10:22

Which lies are these? Is it a lie that male puberty confers an advantage in sport? Did Laurel not undergo male puberty? Are the testosterone levels Laurel is permitted to have while competing in the female category not completely impossible for a female athlete to have naturally? Does testosterone level confer advantage? If not, why is taking it banned?

My eyes bulged out of my head reading that article. They seemed to be describing an alternate reality!

What is the matter with them???

Veeta · 02/08/2021 10:33

You’re right talking. My bad Blush

ScreamingMeMe · 02/08/2021 10:33

They're getting wrecked in the replies. The general public are absolutely not on board with this.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/08/2021 10:36

If the BBC considers Fallon Fox to be a reasonable commentator on this general area then it's beyond disappointing.

timeisnotaline · 02/08/2021 10:39

I haven’t seen any replies the police would spend a nanosecond on. The bbc would be hugely wasting police time and they know it.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 02/08/2021 10:40

God the BBC make me tired.

They don't seem to understand that they are in a very vulnerable position. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime, Audible, podcasts and several pay per view streaming services. I could entertain myself at home and in my car from now until kingdom come and never watch or listen to any BBC content ever again.

However I continue to pay my licence fee because I believe the BBC is A Good Thing.

But every time they show themselves to be so out of touch with the people who fund them, every time they do this 'considerably more enlightened that yew' thing, they undermine that goodwill. It's like watching a baby play at the top of a skyscraper. Oblivious and in such danger.

That's issue 1.

Issue 2 is referring to a person who has literally tried to convince the world they are the opposite sex as 'reluctant'. What utter bullshit

Marguerite2000 · 02/08/2021 10:42

This could finish the BBC off. They've been on very shaky ground with the since the Savile enquiry.

Mrsjamin · 02/08/2021 10:42

They hate women by taking this line of journalism.

Well that went well, didn't it beeb? Were they expecting Stonewall cookies and lots of gushing and fawning? Fucking LOL.

People are angry about this, as we should be. Excluding women from their own sport and having the nerve to call it 'inclusive'. Damn right we're going to talk about it.

HateWon'tWin? Unless it's hating on women, amirite?
