I am more bothered about Fallon Fox competing (and being consulted as a spokesperson) than I would be about a transgender skateboarder.

I'm bothered about any biological male in women's sport. If someone is biologically male they should not be competing against women in any sport that is segregated by biological sex.

In a small select number of sports like the equestrian events, men and women compete against eachother, which is great.

I've also really enjoyed seeing some mixed relay events in the swimming and athletics. Nice to be able to see men and women being able to compete together as a team. And also has provided a wonderful illustration of the stark physical differences between men and women. I mean just look at the size of Adam Peaty and James Guy. Anyone who says this is a complex argument is frankly stupid in my opinion.

To me it goes beyond physical differences anyway. It's about the sociological advantages that men often benefit from- just take football as one example but it extends to many many sports.

Segregating by biological sex is fair for women and I cannot understand how the feelings of a tiny minority (who could still compete in sport if they wanted to) are more important than the rights of 51% of the population.

@OldCrone thanks.
I’ve complaint fatigue today. Slipped this one in with my Fallon Fox complaint (‘the irony’).

DdraigGoch · 02/08/2021 18:59

@timeisnotaline

I haven’t seen any replies the police would spend a nanosecond on. The bbc would be hugely wasting police time and they know it.
I dunno, there were a few accounts with the colours of green, white and purple on them. Police Scotland is probably alerting the gold commander at the moment.
@nettie434 there's no way you actually watched the BMX or skateboarding events - the abilities of males and females is dramatically different!! There are pretty much no sports that don't have a marked significant difference between men and women. No 'sport by sport' rule is needed.
Equestrian sports are fine as "open" competitions.

I'm not sure that there are any actual physiological differences which matter when sailing. Sailing used to be "open" events but started to be segregated from 1988. I wonder if that is because of any physiological differences or if it was just to improve representation - the 1984 event had a mere two women across any of the sailing teams, one British, one Danish.

The censors must still be in bed.

@Tisha0

From www.news.com.au/sport/olympics/what-time-does-transgender-weightlifter-laurel-hubbard-compete-tonight/news-story/428139b691228ebc9c65c14c0a9fda40

“Hubbard was the last of the 10 competitors out as they lined up to be introduced to the crowd. There were cheers and loud applause for many of the weighlifters.”

“When Hubbard’s name was announced, she gave a short wave and there was a warm smattering of applause — however it wasn’t the most raucous reception of the night.”

“Spectators are banned but there are hundreds of people — if not more than 1000 — inside the convention centrre where the event is taking place in front of a whopping crowd for what’s allowed.”

“Journalists from around the world are packed in, and have been given a 20-page guide on how to correctly report on transgender athletes.”

“The guide says reporting trans athletes have an unfair advantage over their rivals is “misinformation”.”

It's very 1984, isn't it?
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 02/08/2021 19:21

Reluctant history maker?

Wasn’t reluctant enough to give their place back to the person who should have had it in the first instance though eh?

Reluctant my arse.

Artichokeleaves · 02/08/2021 19:24

No, I'm not paying my taxes for this. Believe what you like, but I'm not paying for the BBC to call me a sinner and a heretic for not sharing their interesting (and extremely misogynistic) view on life.

Jaysmith71 · 02/08/2021 20:11

Expensively privately educated rich white boy SHAZAM becomes victimised minority and takes a place that would otherwise go to a Polynesian woman.

Aint life funny.

WarriorN · 02/08/2021 22:02

Sailing relies on strength a lot so I can imagine segregation was important.

We were debating riding; potentially weight differences but probably a rare event where your sex doesn't matter.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 02/08/2021 22:05

BBC website now, you can see which they think is the most important weightlifting story. We don't get to see Emily's amazing achievement.

FindTheTruth · 02/08/2021 22:11

It's very 1984, isn't it?

Yes it's Big brother, our national broadcaster in a Grim Dystopian silencing of women and calling us hateful if we speak up for women and girls women denied their Olympic dreams

Gingernaut · 02/08/2021 22:15

They're doing this on Facebook too.

I've stopped receiving notifications about a couple of comments I've left.

I fully expect Facebook to to tell me I have transgressed.

WinterIsGone · 02/08/2021 22:17

I notice that Huw Edwards introduced the report on BBC News just now, describing LH as "born biologically male," rather than "assigned male at birth" as I think it was reported earlier.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 02/08/2021 22:19

Thank you EmbarrassingAdmissions It was the tweet first listed on this post. I've just clicked on it again, and I can see it this time. Weird.

herewegogc · 02/08/2021 22:47

The beeb have jumped the shark. Finally.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 02/08/2021 23:29

Emily Campbell 😍

Showing that most women went there to lift.

And one went to grift

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2021 00:26

I'm not sure that there are any actual physiological differences which matter when sailing.

Weight (and height for leverage) make a huge difference in dinghies. Strength for both hauling in and steering. Men sail full laser rig, women sail radials for a reason.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2021 00:29

This is a good write-up I thought (i can't usually read telegraph articles, guess there's one or two free per month - glad I got this one!)

NiceGerbil · 03/08/2021 01:43

I'm not registered with Twitter and I can't see threads any more- if I try it says get app etc.

Any ideas?

NiceGerbil · 03/08/2021 02:05

I worked it out! I think they've cleaned up a bit now though.

BBC have really crossed a serious line today.

This is a service for the nation supposed to be high quality and neutral.

We pay for it. I pay and have done for decades.

Today they have:

Apparently (and I think unlikely a bunch of posters would all lie) quoted Fallon fox on this topic.
And- I've been checking- it's the only BBC 2 prog today not available on iplayer today.

And I watched the weightlifting on catch up. 1 hour. It's not highlights. Loads of women. Both lifts shown.
Hubbard nowhere in sight. Edited out.

This is neutral?

Redacting things?

I mean that's some serious shit.

They've been biased for ages but this is next level stuff.

FindTheTruth · 03/08/2021 09:39

thanks Tesla.

Critic quote: "the infantilisation of debate by our national public broadcaster, and its threats against women for the crime of speaking up for their rights."

FindTheTruth · 03/08/2021 09:44

Critic points out that the BBC have removed Martina Navratoliva's documentary from the public. We've paid for this through our license fee.

Tesla73 · 03/08/2021 09:59

I cancelled my licence a few weeks ago and I told them their trans propaganda was one of the main reasons especially how they target younger viewers.

They make it so difficult to cancel and are so unprofessional in their communications like they deliberatley make their emails hard to read to trip you up.

They were so snotty in their communication and although they acknowledged that I revoked the implied access to my property they said they would use either means to check up.

They are the only organisation where I have complained/cancelled where they havent replied with the usual apologies, "how can we keep you" etc they were just rude and arrogant - bit like a Twitter poster.

I am so happy that every day you see more news of how they are struggling etc
