I have to say as someone who has fundraised for Macmillan lots, including running Marathons. I am utterly disappointed they are using 'Gender Neutral' language when talking about Cervical Cancer.

But still only Men that need to worry about Prostate Cancer.

The obeisance of so many organisations is infuriating.

Especially when the average health literacy of UK adults is so poor.

KittenKong · 24/07/2021 11:25

Are they stonewalled?

Leafstamp · 24/07/2021 11:32

You can complain to them here:

Id be utterly amazed if Macmillan wasn’t completely stonewalled! All the big charities are

Bizarrely Macmillan commissioned a report on LGBT experiences of cancer which recognises the particular barriers that lesbian women face 🤦🏻‍♀️ And yet the dots don’t join
up…

It's pretty jawdropping, when you look at their 'inclusiveness' for the women's cancer campaigns next to the men's. I saw jawdropping, it's fucking outrageous.

Shedbuilder · 24/07/2021 12:00

Done. No more money/ support to MacMillan from me. Vote with your wallets, women.

littlbrowndog · 24/07/2021 12:04

The baroness is writing to them

So inclusive that they excluded women

littlbrowndog · 24/07/2021 12:07

Men

AfternoonToffee · 24/07/2021 12:10

No one on that Twitter thread is in support of them. They have rightly been put in their place, I would hope they would take notice but I am not overly confident that they will.

littlbrowndog · 24/07/2021 12:12

Inclusive to who,

Macmillan Cancer Support
yourhairiswinterfire · 24/07/2021 12:17

We use gender neutral language in our cervical cancer information so anyone concerned about cervical cancer or with a diagnosis feels we can support to them – our goal is to support everyone living with cancer. It certainly is never our intention to make any one feel excluded.

Bullshit. Just fuck off with that bullshit. Call men and transwomen 'prostate owners', then I'll believe you're doing this because you want to be nice and inclusive.

jonkersdeplonkers · 24/07/2021 12:21

Have Macmillan responded to the thread yet? How they can spout that bullshit whilst simultaneously using the word "men" in their prostate cancer literature is utterly and completely baffling Confused

Saw this thread on Twitter yesterday, and it's bang on:

Chestfeeders, vulva people, labia owners, menstruators, vagina havers.

Have any images flashing through your mind?

I bet you do.

Is it of a strong woman curing diseases or helping the poor or riding into battle or working hard for her family?

I bet not.

Inclusive language is language designed for the prurient interest of men’s sexual desires. We are no long complete persons, we are sexual parts. Titillating young boys with every utterance. Thrilling pedophiles when a 14 year old describes herself as a vulva person

I don’t care if the misogyny comes from inside the house. I don’t care if it is unintentional misogyny. I don’t care if it is an embracing of misogyny in order to escape its effects. (Hint: You won’t escape it, you only make it worse for yourself)

I don’t care who or why people want to demean women, but I will not accept it. I will not participate. I will not be inclusive of this language that belittles the life givers of all of humanity.

littlbrowndog · 24/07/2021 12:23

But with 40% of women not knowing what a cervix is. How can they justify this stuff

Language needs to be clear. So we can all understand

And we all recall that in places like Canada - gynaecologists appear to be obliged to give cervical screening to people who don't, and never have had, a cervix because it's classed as gender affirming care.
ElliottSmithsfingers · 24/07/2021 12:28

I have cancelled my monthly payment, which I kept for years and years, and emailed to explain why. Can't do much, but what I can do i will. This includes bringing up the topic with friends, who may not have fully thought the implications through.

MrsPnut · 24/07/2021 12:34

Considering that Macmillan refuse to listen to people telling them that “brave the shave” makes them feel dreadful and that there was nothing brave about them losing their hair due to cancer treatment, I’m not surprised that they are throwing women under the bus.

I refuse to give a single penny to Macmillan and tell all of my friends and family to do the same.

Noterook · 24/07/2021 12:34

Such a bloody shame, they do some great work but I can't donate anymore. Does anyone know any other cancer charities that acknowledge biological reality and support women?

AfternoonToffee · 24/07/2021 12:36

[vulva] owner is such a strange term, surely if I own my vulva I also own every other body part, so no longer a person but a nose owner.

ArabellaScott · 24/07/2021 12:37

I hadn't heard that. How bloody insensitive.
