Article in the DM - interview with a female prisoner assaulted in prison by a female identifying male. Awful to read, but it is showing the reality of this.

Even the Geneva Convention is very clear about women's rights to protection in times of war. Women prisoners must be kept in single-sex facilities, away from the risk of assault by men.

The Fourth Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War states: “Women shall be especially protected against any attack on their honour, in particular against rape, enforced prostitution, or any form of indecent assault” (Art 27, Geneva Convention IV, 1949).

It is welcome news that Amy is bringing civil action against the MoJ and Sodexo for damages.

Wasn’t this largely what the judges suggested between the lines would be needed? -As they couldn’t find that the MoJ is necessarily acting illegally in placing sex offenders and other identifiers in women's prisons, but the women may still have claims when they have been harmed.

Yes, there is nothing in the Equality Act which makes it a requirement to have separation of the sexes. There is provision for it to be legal to have separate sex services, but service providers can choose not to use this if they wish. I think this is why the judge ruled that there is nothing wrong with the trans policy for prisons.

The people who run the prisons do have a duty to keep prisoners safe, which is why the judge suggested that female prisoners could take legal action against them in cases such as this.

This is appalling. Surely it is the sort of social issue that MNHQ should be urging us to be all behind in order to protect vulnerable women?

ArabellaScott · 24/07/2021 09:50

That is a hard read. Flowers to Amy.

Amy has also brought a separate civil action for damages against Sodexo, the company which runs HMP Bronzefield, and the MOJ.

Good luck with that, and yes, happy to help with the gardening.

You would think. Put it on AIBU, though, and it would be moved to the Feminism section before you could blink.

This comparison must have been made before but regarding the DM, Harry Potter fans must be struck with the comparisons between the Death Eater infiltrated Daily Prophet (The Guardian) and the previously despised Quibbler (the DM). I can't say I've ever been a fan of the DM but they are at least tackling the issues.

ArabellaScott · 24/07/2021 09:57

In the comments:

'This is absolute madness and WHERE ARE the voices of women's groups?!!'

Hmm
ArabellaScott · 24/07/2021 10:05

We are here, DM commenter. Coralled away in a sub-section of the feminism sub-section on Mumsnet, with Special Rules that we must try and follow or we'll be deleted. There are some words we are not allowed to use, so we can try and explain the issues but it is sometimes hard to do so.

Or we are being deleted on Twitter.

Or hiding from death threats.

Or trying to keep our jobs.

Or trying to protect our children. Google 'Marion Millar' if you need any further information on why 'women's groups' now operate largely anonymously.

The large, shiny, govt-funded 'women's groups' have managed so far to avoid, ignore, become 'inclusive' or sit on the fence. So they say nothing or they recite their catechism like good girls.

On the plus side, grassroots women's groups are springing up all the time. Cobbled together out of string, chalk, ribbons, fiver donations and chatrooms, for the most part:

Fair Play for Women
A Woman's Place UK
Keep Prisons Single Sex
Sex Matters
Transgender Trend
LGB Alliance
Safe Schools Alliance
Women Speak Scotland
Make More Noise
Filia
Nordic Model Now
Nia

I'd try the experiment but I don't feel like being in the crosshairs for banning.

Redapplewreath · 24/07/2021 10:08

I honestly cannot respond to this and name the use and abuse of females by and for natal males without being deleted. I'm currently too angry to be as naice as female humans are required to be to be permitted a voice in this at all.

What fucking times do I live in?

RedDogsBeg · 24/07/2021 10:18

Let's call this what it is:

State sanctioned rape and sexual assault of women.

Waitwhat23 · 24/07/2021 10:29

Well said Arabella. To add to your list -
For Women Scotland
Women and Girls in Scotland
Counting Dead Women Project
And the many brave MP's and MSP's who have spoken up and faced threats or expulsion from their party.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/07/2021 10:36

State sanctioned rape and sexual assault of women.

Not just sanctioned. Facilitated.

WomaninBoots · 24/07/2021 10:44

Fucking sick.

Anyone who can read that article and still support self-ID in any form is a fucking sick, woman-hating bastard.

Sex is real and is matters.

Women don't rape. Men do.

I'm so tired of this shit.

highame · 24/07/2021 10:47

I haven't read the DM article because I just find these things so difficult to stomach. I really think the Judge would have ruled in Amy's favour but, as he pointed out, JR was not where this case (and Ann Sinnotts) should be. The limitations of Judicial Review. I believe the government are already looking at this and perhaps the extra sunlight from Amy's civil case will help.

Does anyone ever feel they are in the middle of a 'David & Goliath' moment? There is so much money being ploughed into transrights, these big backers are beyond our reach and even where money isn't the big player, so many transwomen and trans supporters are in positions to have effected these changes. We are fighting back and if it wasn't for the DM, then many ordinary people wouldn't have a clue.

The Times has great articles too but I'm still cautious because I don't know where the NY Times stands on this. Will the NYT lead the way in the fightback in the US or is the US too far gone. Ramble, ramble, not wanting to de-rail, just mulling over stuff

KeepPrisonsSingleSex · 24/07/2021 10:48

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Amy would contest this. 'Some female prisoners have been punished for 'transphobic behaviour' when complaining about transwomen being housed among us. It's outrageous. How could they not recognise the danger we were in? 'J is a serious sex offender. This judge's decision is insulting to her victims, to all female prisoners and to women everywhere. At least this case will have alerted the authorities to how dangerous J is.'

How fucking dare they punish women for that.

This is something I am very concerned about. I am pressing SSJ to confirm that post Forstater EAT that at the very least women in prison will not be penalised for expressing GC thoughts and used sex-based pronouns and language.

(Of course, keeping prisons single sex would sort that.... but...)

MrsOvertonsWindow · 24/07/2021 10:48

State sanctioned rape and sexual assault of women .

With as Arabella points out in her powerful post, colluded with by all the government funded organisations and political parties.

Well done to the Daily Mail for giving Amy a voice.

BatmansBat · 24/07/2021 10:49

In Canada they seem to hand out contraceptives ahead of transwomen coming into women’s prisons

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 24/07/2021 10:51

Anyone who can read that article and still support self-ID in any form

the thing is, the people who want us to pretend humans can change sex never want to talk about specifics. that's why they're not here on this thread, engaging with the issue and explaining why Amy being assaulted was worth it

they're religious zealots. Reality doesn't matter to them, only ideology

also I suspect in most cases they don't care about women suffering, and in some cases it's an outcome they actively wish to pursue

Redapplewreath · 24/07/2021 10:53

A fundamental belief that humans born male are of higher value and importance than humans born female seems apparent every time. This is good old fashioned sexism and that's it. That's all.

WomaninBoots · 24/07/2021 10:53

I cannot understand the need/want within the system to be sensitive to the feelings of a male sex offender at the expense of women's safety or even comfort. I don't get it. These people must be insane. Or spectacularly brainwashed.

Sicario · 24/07/2021 10:55

The patriarchy doesn't give a single solitary shit about women's rights. Protecting women and girls from male violence and sex-based assault is viewed as an inconvenience. Of course men do these things - what are they expected to do about it? It's normal. It's been going on since time immemorial.

Women should just shut up and accept that male violence - physical, sexual, emotional - is part of the female landscape.

For so long as men make the rules, then man can do whatever the fuck they like.

I AM SO ANGRY.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/07/2021 10:56

Quite Bernard. I suspect this thread will be avoided by our usual visitors who are usually so keen to tell us it costs us nothing to accommodate TW/rights are not a pie/be kind

Funny that

Thanks, I knew I'd forgotten many, and there are plenty I'm not aware of. Angry. Not researched, just off the top of my head.

Where are the 'women's groups' standing up for the women sexually assaulted in prison and refused help by the prison authorities?
