Looks like they are unhappy with her because she supports JK Rowling. Some little arsehole has contacted the theatre she is currently working at, to try and get her sacked.

She is not having it. Another strong, formidable woman.

@JustAnotherFuckingMonday

She's awesome..but I'm biased, she's a very close relative (I've name changed obv) Wink
In which case, please let her know that many, many women think she is fantastic!

@Oystercakemix if the person has a penis then they should not be in women's changing / toilet facilities as they are not a woman.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/07/2021 20:15

You can say you think trans women in single sex spaces puts muslim women at risk, which I disagree with, but equally forcing trans women to use male spaces puts them at risk.

Even if you believe they aren’t at risk, surely you understand that it will further marginalise them. Many Muslim women will not or cannot attend women only spaces if there are males there. Considering many of these women are already very marginalised by our society and some of them very vulnerable as a result, why do you think accommodating males’ feelings trumps them?

Why is males having access to women’s spaces more important than females having access to women’s spaces in your opinion?

BlueBlazerBlack · 19/07/2021 20:18

Lots of men are at risk from male violence, but we can't very well have them all using the women's facilities, can we? Even the ones who we know would never harm us. Women deserve separate spaces, not just for their safety, but also for their comfort and dignity.

This reminds me of the case in America of a MtF high school student, who was offered the use of the disabled toilets, but instead insisted she should use the girls' toilets, even though some of the girls were unhappy about it.

It's not always about safety from male violence - often it's more about validation of one's chosen identity.

Indeed!

@Clymene

It's interesting. We have tons and tons of evidence of actual harm being cause by allowing transwomen into women only spaces but not a shred of evidence happening when they're in male spaces.

You'd think people who are arguing for the mortal peril they're in would have some. After all, that was the argument for them having to use women's spaces. And yet, crickets.

It's truly perplexing isn't it Clymene you'd think we'd be inundated with the evidence, it would be at their fingertips. As I said earlier I have hunted high and low and never found any, not one shred. In fact the only risk I can ascertain for TW using male facilities is that they will not be validated as women if they do so.

However, even if there was evidence that still doesn't make any kind of case for women being forced to act as human shields to protect one set of males from the violence of another set of males.

Women are not on this earth to act as validation tools, human shields or collateral damage for men.

So many good points on this thread.

I have just written a letter to Barclays Bank, yes a real letter, on paper (parchment not being available). I have explained, in detail, TO A BANK, the differences between men and women, the safeguarding implications of having males in female only spaces. ALL THIS TO A F*ING BANK

I have concentrated on their current appalling advertising campaign, I know that others will be concentrating on the unpleasant activities of their employee

Bring back the day when we used to just discuss overdrafts with our bank

Amazing how ingrained this goodies and baddies culture is for TRAs. They spend hours combing through people’s social media in search of something conceivably dodgy, then go to the trouble of contacting all their mutual friends/followers screaming “You should know this person is EVIL and UNSAFE, block at once” or whatever. And then the friends/followers issue public apologies and repent for the crime of willingly reading the words of a miscreant.

I’m not sure they can even take on board the concept of nuance, or agreeing with people on certain things and not others. Everything’s so simple for them. So black and white. Goodies (hardly anyone) or baddies (the majority of humans). And at any moment, a goody can be plunged into the fire of rejection if they slip up, so they must self-police 24/7. No wonder they’re always banging on about how exhausting everything is.

Frances Barber is a force of nature and I hope it puts off future Jays from launching attacks on public figures’ livelihoods.

Please keep up. The proposed changes allow men into single sex spaces. Whether or not they claim to identify as trans or women is neither here nor there if ‘trans’ and ‘woman’ no longer have any objective meaning.

merrymouse · 20/07/2021 08:15

You've missed the point, which is that women who abide by the rules of some religions cannot use mixed-sex facilities. It's not just about safeguarding women & children & giving them privacy & dignity, it's about making it possible for certain religious women to take part in society.

Yes - this is why we e.g. don’t ban religious dress on beaches in the U.K. It’s also easy to also see that lack of provision for people who suffer from gender dysphoria can be restrictive. That is one of the reasons why there should also be unisex spaces.

ArabellaScott · 20/07/2021 08:20

Why is males having access to women’s spaces more important than females having access to women’s spaces in your opinion?

Would really like to hear the answer to this.

Also, Sophocles, that diagram is most illuminating.

Waspie · 20/07/2021 08:48

Late to this thread but joining to say that I didn't know Frances Barber was in Hamlet at Windsor until I read this. I have bought tickets for the whole family for next month and emailed the theatre (as I don't tweet) to sign her praises.

terryleather · 20/07/2021 08:53

Oooo I like your diagram Sophocles, I've got a version too...

Well, we’ve got two pieces of evidence now, terry, that’s proper sciencing, that is!

Let’s change some laws on that basis.

bellinisurge · 20/07/2021 09:14

Frances Barber is a magnificent woman and has always been a force of nature that lights up anywhere she performs.

terryleather · 20/07/2021 09:33

Absolutely Sophocles, let's force the dissenters into the gulags good folxs club while we're at it..

It's not just about safeguarding women & children & giving them privacy & dignity, it's about making it possible for certain religious women to take part in society.

Also many women with Autism often speak about not being able to use single sex spaces that are in fact mixed sex, and many women with trauma and a history of DV. The purpose of single sex female spaces is first and foremost to make it possible for all female people to take part in society. To exclude them to include male people is not inclusion, and it is actively using sex based thinking (while denying it) in a way that prioritises all members of one sex above all members of another.

herewegogc · 20/07/2021 12:01

'but equally forcing trans women to use male spaces puts them at risk'

NOT OUR PROBLEM

Redapplewreath · 20/07/2021 12:09

@herewegogc

'but equally forcing trans women to use male spaces puts them at risk'

NOT OUR PROBLEM

And there are other solutions to that. Third spaces being the obvious one constantly put forward by women.

What solutions are being put forward for the female people being excluded from any provision so male people can have their preferred choice from all the provisions?

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 20/07/2021 12:49

I'm becoming increasingly concerned that so many women don't realise that the people who spit such bile online are the exact same people who are keen to share their safe spaces.
Do they think that if these TRAs get their way they will be sweet and kind to all the women they encounter in what were once women's spaces?
