The Guardian have upped their game, we’re now Anti-trans for asking for same-sex spaces

www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jul/18/dozens-arrested-in-los-angeles-as-anti-trans-protest-outside-spa-turns-violent

“Women carrying signs reading “protect female spaces” and “It’s worse in women’s shelters”. Calls to defend “female spaces” and “women’s shelters” have become rallying cries of anti-trans groups, who have falsely suggested that trans-inclusive policies endanger cis women.”

This, according to the Guardian, is what makes women anti-trans. It’s infuriating. Using “Falsely” to describe women’s experiences of having biological males in female spaces.

All this from one woman saying No to willies waggling in front of women and girls.

@fraggiequeen

I've noticed recently the Guardian only covering trans stuff one sidedly. Their depiction of trans (mostly ftm) 'heroes' doesn't reflect my admittedly more provincial experience of 1. A man who's dumped on his long term partner and kids so he can be his true self 2. Local builder in full make up/long hair who my partner says 'used to be a big arrogant prick, and hasn't changed!' But I doubt his change of gender will lead to a pay cut in his profession. 3. Daughter's friend's dad who told his son ' I'm not going to be as good at timekeeping now I'm a woman, I'm going to be late for stuff' sensible son can see right through it. In the Guardian it seems like a narrative which only involves brave community leaders. I would love to see 'Diary of a Transwidow' in the Saturday review.
What?!? Women are late for things? I'm the most compulsively on time person that I know!
nauticant · 18/07/2021 09:30

Many demonstrators chanted “Save our children,” a slogan taken up by QAnon conspiracy theorists, whose ideology is centered on an elaborate narrative about a cabal of influential paedophiles.

They're edging in territory saying that safeguarding of children is part of the QAnonn conspiracy theory. They're losing sight of the fact that what they're giving support to goes way beyond what would be acceptable to the mainstream. Blinded by righteousness they're heading out to where the ice becomes thin.

Siblingquandary · 18/07/2021 09:31

That “falsely” is ridiculous. Given that a UK court has recently acknowledged that trans women do pose a risk to women in spaces that are designated single-sex - they didn’t give a shit, but they acknowledged it - would it be possible to get the Guardian to correct that?

I do think there should be a flood of complaints to the regulator, it's a solid editorial error

Theeyeballsinthesky · 18/07/2021 09:32

It’s always the offensive stereotypes “oooh now I’m a woman I’m like such a flippety gibbet little air head who can’t be on time for things”

I remember a fawning interview the times did with a French transwoman where they said that she wouldn’t move the chairs they needed for the interview because you know women are such fragile creatures they don’t move chairs, that’s a man job 🙄🙄

I imagine that's because you're an actual person and not a concept. But what do I know I'm just a cervix haver.

Whereas those of us that actually just get the fuck on with life do what needs to be done.

Why, just yesterday I mowed the lawn with the massive heavy diesel mower because DH has hurt his knee. Where do I hand my ovaries in please?

I’ve hunted FB and Twitter to see if they’ve linked it

They're linked to it but they're not getting much engagement:

twitter.com/GuardianUS/status/1416604956937920512
twitter.com/SocietyGuardian/status/1416592823097303046

It is being shared though. It's just a lot of people seem to be swerving away.

IsItShining · 18/07/2021 09:37

In my limited experience, when ‘women are late for things’ it’s because they are trying to shift three belligerent small children towards the car while carrying the cool bag abs aboard clothes and trying not to let the cat out.

Meanwhile ‘the man’ is smugly in the car at the time he’d randomly planned to set off.

Siblingquandary · 18/07/2021 09:37

@NothingIsWrong

You're clearly gender fluid

Blackandwhitehorse · 18/07/2021 09:38

Seems like desperate ‘journalism’ from the Guardian. I think we will only see more of this as more sensible voices, like Helen Joyce, are heard on the subject. Curious as to how they will tie this in to reporting on male violence against women and Sarah Everard.

Also think the left/right wing is unhelpful, divisive and much less relevant now, it also stops people working together to get stuff done which will actually help people. My view is we have people and groups who are incredibly racist, homophobic, intolerant etc. and we shouldn’t necessarily group those people as right wing, they are just bigots.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 18/07/2021 09:45

I am so pissed off about this, shitty article, lazy journalism, and the issue about safety for women and girls is now completely lost because it's been taken over by a frenzied fight between two groups.

The issue itself just feels like it's been forgotten now, and if it isn't forgotten it's written off as a 'hoax'

Angry

Ah, thanks for the links, I’ll add my comments for the guardian to ignore, like they do all my other comments.

Yes, agree this is an opinion piece at best. Which should come with a disclaimer that it’s woker than woke.

Another article that makes one wonder yet again, 'What happened to the Guardian?'

It's frustrating but the Wi Spa wasn't a one off. It's going to keep happening and they'll be a tipping point where they can't call 'false flag' on all of them.

The false flag narrative doesn't work when the right wing use it and it won't work for the left either.

Cismyfatarse · 18/07/2021 09:55

I don't see how this kind of penis exposure and the kind that preceded the murder of Sarah Everard are any different? Is it possible to put the 2 side by side (from the Guardian) via screenshots?

I don't have the technical know how but it is telling that no one sees the cognitive dissonance in damning only one of these.

Note from today's Times that a Police officer is to be appointed to lead on VAWG. I wonder what that officer will see as the difference.

Did you ever read "Diana" Thomas's column in the Telegraph Magazine detailing their transition every week?

It was full of the most offensive stereotypes (with some occasional AGP dropped in for good measure).

Again, it's not surprising a right-leaning publication is subscribed to sexist stereotypes and by extension the TRA agenda. Because, oh yes, wearing pearls and some lippie and enjoying flower-arranging is what makes you a woman.

The Guardian has opted out of being regulated and now marks its own homework. Even then I think they say they will only respond to parties directly affected by an inaccuracy etc.

I would still write to the Reader’s Editor. And the letters page FWIW.

Siblingquandary · 18/07/2021 09:58

Well that explains a lot.

I should have known about that to be fair, I do remember something about it.

So the thing is, you kind of are anti trans asking for same sex spaces. Isn't that the point? You are being exclusionary.

And there is still no proof that this actual incident occurred and was not made up to make a fuss.

I think it is actually balanced - it's that it doesn't concur with your view that makes you see it as unfair.

The killer point for me is this: "California has for years had laws in place that allow trans people to use facilities that match their gender."

Same as the Uk, by the way. And all that can be counter challenged is statistically small cases by those who are quite rightly condemned and where committing a crime, charged and dealt with. The rest is just fear mongering and makes good copy and provides some people with what they see is a meaningful campaign I guess.

The vast majority of trans people are just trying to live their lives from what I can see.

Thumbs up for the Guardian from me - so hard to see the wood from the trees in modern day media where so much is sensationalised, or thrown out there with no proof it happened.

merrymouse · 18/07/2021 10:07

Same sex spaces do not exclude trans people any more than over 60s bus passes exclude women.

BaronMunchausen · 18/07/2021 10:07

The “hoax” angle is disingenuous given that the spa does allow male genitalia in the female-only facilities, and responded to Cubana Angel’s complaint on the basis that the person exhibiting said genitalia identified a woman.

Best-case is they knew there was a transwoman in there; worst-case is they didn’t.

The “hoax” thing doesn’t help their case even if it did add up.

FightingtheFoo · 18/07/2021 10:09

@MishyJDI "No evidence" apart from literal video footage of women - mostly women of colour - complaining to the reception staff.

Are you calling the Black woman who filmed the video a liar? Do you think you might be a racist, Mishy?

Because your point is demonstrably wrong you make coherent discussion of trans rights impossible.
