We have trains and although I know how to darn a sock I can't imagine it happens much these days? My children didn't know what it meant until it came up the other day!

And in general trains are called trains by the vast majority of people.

It's a bit Victorian isn't it! And I have no doubt that when people commonly darned socks men did it plenty as not all had a handy woman to give them to...
