This from FPFW site.

This MSc student is looking at public attitudes to transgender prisoners. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and could be an important measure of public opinion. Please take a moment to fill in.
t.co/LXpRTvw8Ji?amp=1study and please share.

I think this is bona fide. It's on FPFW site so nothing to suggest otherwise

@JellySlice

I can't find it on the FPFW site.
It's on twitter.

That is such a badly written survey although I did complete it, if anything, just to show that gender critical people are not all religious, homophobic conservatives. It’s ridiculous to base ‘should male bodied people be held in women’s prisons?’ on a scenario where a young man has been accused but not convicted. Male people should not be in women’s prisons full stop, no matter their crime as their very presence could be harmful to female inmates even if they are perfectly harmless in themselves. Women deserve better than this shit and Goldsmith students ought to be at a better level of output than this!

midgemagneto · 16/07/2021 10:25

Interesting it focus on post surgery prisoner

Floisme · 16/07/2021 10:25

What's the thing about darning socks? I might just about manage to get past my suspicion of Goldsmiths but if they're being sneery about such an undervalued skill then they can fuck right off.

Wildgarlicpesto · 16/07/2021 10:26

It's very conservative American isn't it? I find a lot of UK students/young people speak fluent American without even realising they are doing it. My DS asks me if I have my "purse" when he means handbag!

Masdintle · 16/07/2021 10:29

Wildgarlic I always say, yes, it's in my handbag Grin

midgemagneto · 16/07/2021 10:29

Since my code is chugging, what I found most interesting is that my tolerance towards post surgical trans people had plummeted since last I gave it much thought

I also objected to the fact you were forced to have a gender even if you were allowed to not say what it was

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 10:31

Exactly, is the penis irrelevant in these decisions?
Secondbellini · 16/07/2021 10:32

They even used check rather than cheque. It was all American.

ButterflyCat2028 · 16/07/2021 10:37

This is a terrible 'study'. How on earth the supervisor signed this off I do not understand! Poorly wrote, factually inaccurate (erm how on earth can we judge whether someone you've said is accused.. as in not proven guilty! should be gave a community order or recieve personalised help in prison?! What???) It's filled with leading questions and ... Worded statements that have no specifics at all!

How on earth do you 'strongly agree-strongly disagree' to 'multiculturism' or 'bible truth' (wtf is that??) Etc etc.

... what are they actually asking here. In research if you're asking questions like this, they need to be questions. Not just random words spewed out and telling people to agree or disagree with them.

This person really needs to learn how to complete research properly. What an embarrassment.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 16/07/2021 10:38

From the debrief sheet it looks like the survey is presenting one of many scenarios to anyone taking it, so some posters may see something different to others.

I agree with PP that the wording in places was really weird.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/07/2021 10:39

It's rubbish. Have universities really degenerated this far?

MaudTheInvincible · 16/07/2021 10:40

Some very odd questions on there, enough to make me think they really, really want us to be the American Christian right. The idea that in the UK this is a movement of primarily lefty feminist women just does not compute.

Megasausagehead · 16/07/2021 10:43

If it is on twitter and is anonymous, surely anyone can complete it I.e. TRAs, MRAs.

It is meaningless.

Siablue · 16/07/2021 10:45

It is a prime example of how not to write a survey so many leading questions. They also seem to think that religious people are right wing which in this country is not true. Marcus Rashford is Christian as one example. Many people who attend religious services of all denominations are going to have a positive attitude to immigration as they themselves were immigrants.

They are the one with regressive ideas about gender they seem to think that nasty women lie about being raped. That is a right wing trope that the US right wing bring out all the time.

I would be interested in seeing their findings.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/07/2021 10:46

How the fuck did the ethics committee let that travesty through?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/07/2021 10:47

I think we need to complain to the university and the ethics committee. Blow this rubbish out of the water.

Keepemguessing · 16/07/2021 10:48

It's a terrible study. I hope the student concerned is surprised at the findings and thinks about them.

PegasusReturns · 16/07/2021 10:51

I persevered but it is appallingly worded. Makes very little sense and no where near enough information to be making any realistic sort of determination

AnnaMagnani · 16/07/2021 10:53

There are clearly a few initial scenarios. The one I got was fairly obvious, er no he's just hit a woman and just has some 'feelings' about being girly.

I agree, a lot of the responses about what I'd want to happen to the prisoner I'd want for all prisoners - interventions to prevent reoffending, care of mental health etc.

The focus seems to be do those who are more religious/want the death penalty/are in favour of 'lock them up and throw away the key' want transwomen in male prisons.

Given how many women who are GC are left-leaning, I'd encourage as many people to fill it out as possible!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 16/07/2021 10:55

I persevered but it is appallingly worded

I couldn't help but think that the scenario where the student asked if a man should pay for a 'lady' on a date was a personal fantasy ...

Nojobforoldmums · 16/07/2021 10:57

I thought maybe darning socks was a trap. To make those of us who thought it was ridiculous for anyone to darn a sock to sound like we believe in gender roles.

Queenoftheashes · 16/07/2021 10:59

Mm I filled it in, it was a bit weird with all the Christian and men should be in charge shite but I went in with an anti-death penalty/patriarchy/religion, pro-therapy/single-sex prisons approach so hopefully helped make the point.
