Can anyone do a share token? I don’t think I saw a thread on this. I’ve c&p’d some paras.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/get-on-board-to-help-snare-the-train-perverts-passengers-told-bwgdv283f

“There are people who go from A to B, get a return train and come back immediately,” she said. “That’s not normal. We also know that there are people who go on the network and are on it for a long time. If you’re on a journey for 12 hours, what are you doing?”

This is Lucy D’Orsi, new chief constable of British Transport Police.

She has also ordered a review of the laws to ensure that offenders can be successfully prosecuted for actions that have been going unpunished. This includes the sending of obscene images to strangers in the same carriage through AirDrop and Bluetooth technology.

I just realised the article is a few weeks old. But still very interesting/ depressing in equal measure Sad.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 14/07/2021 23:06

I'll be interested to see if there are successful prosecutions.

The BTP has indicated that it has more than 150 “high-risk” offenders, including convicted rapists, on its radar. Shock

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 14/07/2021 23:32

Thank you.
Again glad that the SNP had to back down on their intention of getting rid of BTP in Scotland (I've never seen a serious argument for this so I assume it was just a knee jerk reaction to the B part...)

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 14/07/2021 23:53

"If you’re on a journey for 12 hours, what are you doing?"

Possibly trying to get from A to B: a journey of a few hundred miles with several changes and delays and rail replacement buses? I can see the need for preventing assaults, improving reporting of the assaults that slip through the net... keeping guards on trains is only common sense.

But to suggest that the length of a person's journey signals their intentions is a tad bizarre.

IceLace100 · 15/07/2021 00:50

Disgusted. But not surprised.

Tiari · 15/07/2021 01:02

I don't think this will be a new thing, probably been going on for years?

Why do you jump to the conclusion that they're being fucking stupid, rather than take it in context and suppose that they will be talking about routes where they aren't changing /don't have 12 hour lines?

Just out of interest.

NiceGerbil · 15/07/2021 01:13

I got wanked at on the tube years ago.

Live at the end of the line and it used to take 4 mins between the last 2 stops. Serious assaults against women did sometimes happen in that time.

There was no one else on my carriage or the ones adjacent.

He got off end of line and didn't leave the station, assumption he got on another tube the other way.

Only thing I've reported as worried about escalation etc.

No interest from London transport police.

Plenty of commuter stations now don't have any staff in the evening.

NiceGerbil · 15/07/2021 01:17

Male friend works at a station told me bloke was there every morning hassling schoolgirls.

He didn't know what to do.

I said either

Have a word and tell him to stop

And/or tell the police.

Training for staff would be really useful. They are normal humans and just as reticent /unsure how to handle things like that- not right but don't know if illegal- as loads of people.

NonnyMouse1337 · 15/07/2021 08:29

Thanks for this thread. Wasn't aware of this. As another poster said, disgusted but not surprised.

TiddyAndFletch · 15/07/2021 08:36

They must be very well-off if they can afford to make a 12 hour train journey for no reason. A 5 hour journey recently cost me £180.

Babdoc · 15/07/2021 08:49

TiddyAndFletch, I think they could more cheaply get a ticket for the Circle line on the Tube and just keep going round! Or just shuttle back and forth on one line, crossing platforms. They won’t be buying long distance return tickets.

I have rarely agreed so vehemently with another person's post, @NiceGerbil.

DoucheCanoe · 15/07/2021 09:39

My Autistic teen is a train spotter who will (and has) just jumped on and off trains or sat through a return journey just because he enjoys doing it.

I worry about him being mugged, or targeted for his hobby or just because he's socially awkward. It never even occurred to me that people might think he's a sexual deviant!

Why have you brought trans into it, Mishy? This is about predatory men on trains. Or have you misread the word trains?

Look how quickly the words of a female police chief talking about high incidences of sexual assault and harassment in her jurisdiction, as well as suspected under reporting, is dismissed as paranoia and fear mongering.

I live in the sticks so when I need to go to London I buy an all day travel card for just under £25. In theory I can travel that route back and forth and travel on the tube all day long. I was sexualy assaulted on a train when I was a teenager, absolutely terrifying. Guards are so so important on trains
Shedbuilder · 15/07/2021 09:51

Longest tube journey of my life involved jumping on the last train from Cockfosters (I know, I know) after being dropped off by a colleague on the way back from a work event. Late at night, empty carriage — except that seconds before the doors closed a man got in with me, sat opposite me and as soon as the doors closed whipped out his dick and started wanking. When I looked over to the emergency call handle he said 'Don't even think about it.' Big bloke. I got my book out and pretended to read until we got to the next station, which seemed like hours later, and dashed onto the platform, to find the station deserted. Stood on the platform like a demented women yelling 'There's a man wanking in this carriage.' Nothing happened, no one came, the tube doors shut and off he went. And then I had to wait on my own in the dark in a strange area for a bus.

The most alarming of many tube frottagists, flashers and gropers.
