Obscene costumed volunteers handing out summer reading at Redbridge library

A library had a man in a rainbow monkey costume, with a dildo penis and a fake exposed butt, handing out summer reading books.

Look at this obscene sex clown mocking and terrorising local Muslim women:

The library is, of course, apologizing about it now:

twitter.com/RedbridgeLibs/status/1413975910433366020

But during the event, they thought it was pretty funny:

What is happening? Why should parents going to the library's summer reading program worry that THIS is what they'll see? The website for this troupe of "performers" clearly shows this monkey performer with his fake penises inch from children's faces. There has been no vetting. No safeguarding.

And there'll just be an apology, another "isolated incident." Of course, the local Muslim women and girls know exactly what this library thinks of them now, and what may happen to them if they choose to even walk nearby. Do we think they're going to want to go in?

Ffs, Go after the people doing this, Instead of berating the women on here for commenting on it. I am told constantly that drag is an expression of male homosexuality, and you have drag queen story time Across the land in libraries, with men calling themselves bustin Cherry, and flow job.

If people are making connections, go figure.

Because it would appear that the local council is making the exact same connections. Otherwise why would they hire men with their plastic cocks hanging out?

WeeTorag · 11/07/2021 20:35

@Mumteedum

Anyone just exhausted by the onslaught of dangerous fucking stupidity and people falling for it? I'm quite sure plenty of LGBT parents would not be ok with this shit either.

I hate the drag queen shite in libraries too. Don't particularly love or hate drag... but how does it benefit children? Why do we have to push adult stuff at them? They have enough to deal with. Just totally sick of it.

Me too @Mumteedum. All of it. Sick of it. 😠
BestestBrownies · 11/07/2021 20:36

This is so utterly outrageous it beggars belief. Appalling decision to use these (quite clearly not vetted AT ALL), fetishists masquerading as entertainers. Were any of them even DBS-checked prior to the event?

Heads need to seriously roll for this.

Delphinium20 · 11/07/2021 20:38

@BlueberryCheezecake

Honestly, it's pretty clear at least some of you do just blame anything you don't like or disapprove of on the LGBT community, which honestly you want to take a good long hard look at yourselves and your prejudices
Nobody is blaming this on lesbians, bisexuals, or gay men. I personally don't think it has a thing to do with non-binary or trans people. This is grooming and sexualizing children's book characters and activities. Always wrong. Typically grooming. It's pedophilia out in the open and I'm sure my lesbian MIL would rather die than have her DG exposed to this.

Yes, I do go figure, I think some masks have slipped in this post to be honest, clearly there's literally nothing you won't find a way to blame on trans people somehow, even when it has absolutely nothing to do with them. Bigotry and prejudice on open display, pure and simple.
littlbrowndog · 11/07/2021 20:40

Drag is adult entertainment. Why are schools and libraries pushing this stuff

We have it in Scotland as well. An MSP brought a drag artist into a school

SMH.

it’s a school not a night club

@BlueberryCheezecake

There isn't even a rainbow. The monkey has a multicoloured costume. That's it.

Those of you going "No, but it is the LGBTs, it's definitely their fault somehow" are really not doing anything to dispell the impression that you've just made a kneejerk bigoted assumption.

The author of this article:: www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/06/29/pride-month-kink-consent/ considers herself part of the queer community. She's a heterosexual woman whose husband came out as trans.

And here she is arguing that kink is great for kids.

She is nothing to do with LGB but has everything to do with the T and Q. Maybe you should do a bit of reading around queer theory.

Masdintle · 11/07/2021 20:40

Not blaming transpeople. Blaming activists who leap on bandwagons to push their sex rights agenda through any means possible.

Masdintle · 11/07/2021 20:42

And not a single person is saying 'it's all the LGBTs people's fault'. Not one.

Delphinium20 · 11/07/2021 20:43

That Washington Post article (which was very difficult reading) had countless people reporting into Child Protection Services to investigate the writer and whether her children are safe in her and her husband's care. Purposely exposing children to sexual activity is child abuse.

LizzieSiddal · 11/07/2021 20:45

What the fuck have I just seen?

And why the fuck has not one single adult said “NO”. I used to volunteer in a library, it was smallish so I ly me and another volunteer during afternoons, however in the larger libraries there was always fully paid members of staff. They need to some safeguarding training ASAP.

It's not about whether this was organised by "the LGBTs" as you put it. It's about how on earth anyone (Redbridge library? Vision? The person in the costume?) thought that this was an appropriate outfit for a children's activity.

DevonTF · 11/07/2021 20:48

They knew exactly what was happening - gutted to see my local library celebrating it with them. Have tweeted Exeter Library / Exeter City Council / Ben Bradshaw. Not a response from any of them. Their silence is rather telling.

Dizzybintess · 11/07/2021 20:48

I honestly cannot believe that not one person along the process of making this happen, questioned the sheer inappropriate nature of this.

LizzieSiddal · 11/07/2021 20:51

How many parents will now be put off from taking their children to this library? Angry

Mogloveseggs · 11/07/2021 20:52

I am trying to imagine this monkey turning up at dcs school and being let through the door. It would not happen.
It is disgusting. I don't care what they are trying to represent, that is not right in an environment for children and vulnerable people. In fact it's not right for me either. Whoever booked them should explain or be sacked.

Helleofabore · 11/07/2021 20:52

Thanks for the link Dizzy.

That is interesting. I am not sure though how they have gotten away with this costume for so long. Private parties, maybe, but for public bookings, really surprising this was ever considered acceptable.

BatmansBat · 11/07/2021 20:56

@BlueberryCheezecake

I am genuinely interested in your reasoning here.

Do you think that this “just is a multicoloured outfit” and appropriate for children?

Why would you think that women here link this to trans? Do you have any quotes on that because I haven’t seen a single comment linking this to trans?

I've spoken on another thread regarding this.
I feel too old now. I've tried to understand these issues but every time it's brought up, someone comes in with yet another blindside.

Helleofabore · 11/07/2021 20:58

So, blueberry, let's get straight to the point then.

Do you think this was an acceptable costumer for the event or not? Do you think a performer with a replica penis should be waving it directly in front of a small girl?

KimikosNightmare · 11/07/2021 21:01

@Datun

Crikey, I was deleted. I have no idea why.

Never mind. This is what I thoroughly object to. Plastic phalluses inches from children's faces.

And stupid women smiling and taking photos of it.

Sorry but I agree with Blueberry this is vile and unacceptable but the group responsible has nothing to do with LGBT issues.

chickenyhead · 11/07/2021 21:02

@BlueberryCheezecake

The only person saying trans IS YOU!

these are men, normalising cocktails around kids.

Grooming paedophilia behaviour.

Nobody gives a flying fuck what/how they identify FFS.

WAKE THE FUCK UP
