Obscene costumed volunteers handing out summer reading at Redbridge library

A library had a man in a rainbow monkey costume, with a dildo penis and a fake exposed butt, handing out summer reading books.

Look at this obscene sex clown mocking and terrorising local Muslim women:

The library is, of course, apologizing about it now:

twitter.com/RedbridgeLibs/status/1413975910433366020

But during the event, they thought it was pretty funny:

What is happening? Why should parents going to the library's summer reading program worry that THIS is what they'll see? The website for this troupe of "performers" clearly shows this monkey performer with his fake penises inch from children's faces. There has been no vetting. No safeguarding.

And there'll just be an apology, another "isolated incident." Of course, the local Muslim women and girls know exactly what this library thinks of them now, and what may happen to them if they choose to even walk nearby. Do we think they're going to want to go in?

What I feel is a deeper issue (beyond why this was booked in the first place and why no one stopped immediately in the second) is that in my part of the world low income and vulnerable parents (mothers) are directed to the library as a way to support their children. Schools run reading challenges etc and I know families with SEN needs are asked if they take the children to the library. So you’re living your life on a knife edge (for whatever reason) and then your trying to explain to your social worker why you refuse to go to the baby book club because last time you were there a man thrust a dildo in your kids face!
Twice at work (nothing to do with anything like this) I’ve had to say “stop, can I see some ID/evidenc for what you are asking” and others have admitted they wanted to but didn’t want to rock the boat. Start rocking the fuxking boat.

Why are people assuming this has anything to do with LGBT people at all? The company's website says nothing about them being an LGBT group or having any connection to LGBT causes or promoting any LGBT agenda. The only - very tenuous - connection I can see is the monkey wears a multicoloured costume which could possibly be construed as a rainbow, though it's not rainbow patterned and does not have the same colours as the rainbow flag, and it's not like the LGBT community owns rainbows or colourful stuff anyway. Is there any other reason to make a connection or are people just blaming LGBT people for anything they don't like or approve of?

Because libraries are slowly becoming infamous for inappropriate child entertainment usually in the name of LGBTQQIA?+£%?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 11/07/2021 20:09

It's not LGBT people Blueberry. It's the activist groups relentlessly imposing queer theory on children in schools, promoting safeguarding busting initiatives like sexualised drag queens reading to little children and insisting that the penis is now female and can be shown everywhere.
Lesbians are at the forefront of objecting to this.

But there's no evidence this has anything to do with that?

I just can't believe this happened; it is wrong in so many ways. It would never be appropriate to support and encourage any council enterprise least of all a library - to think the 'performers' have been paid for this horrid/sick display is unbelievable. If they had any decency they would have explained they were not suitable for such a venue/audience. Vile.

chickenyhead · 11/07/2021 20:13

I'm sorry but WTF have I just seen???

As an adult, this would neither bother me, nor offend me. HOWEVER, when my children are involved, I get the right to prevent them from being exposed to penises (real or fake). Or maybe I don't anymore.

What's the point of having a watershed on TV if you can have this at midday in a library?

What are we doing as a society? Normalising kids exposure to cock?

Inclusive is not abusive

But again, no evidence this group has any connection with queer theory, drag queens, or queer anything.

The only thing I can think
Is the council is a stonewall champion and previous form for drag queens and other things that push what the norms are around children and families at libraries so link was made. Which to be fair can’t think why another business group would think sexual displays or penis would be great business model unless something else going on behind it.

Akire · 11/07/2021 20:17

That is what I read on orginal Twitter comments I’m certainly none the wiser!

I mean, there's been a bunch of England fans waving their willies around in public all day in Leicester Square, do you assume they're somehow associated with the nefarious LGBTs as well?
Datun · 11/07/2021 20:19

Crikey, I was deleted. I have no idea why.

Never mind. This is what I thoroughly object to. Plastic phalluses inches from children's faces.

Plastic phalluses, inches from children's faces. Who is it who thinks this is acceptable? What happens when an adult does this? Does the child feel they can't object?

BlueberryCheezecake · 11/07/2021 20:20

Honestly, it's pretty clear at least some of you do just blame anything you don't like or disapprove of on the LGBT community, which honestly you want to take a good long hard look at yourselves and your prejudices

InvisibleDragon · 11/07/2021 20:21

Posted on another thread, but last month in Redbridge, a woman was murdered on her way home from A&E, and her naked body was dumped in a bush:
www.google.com/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2021/05/10/man-20-charged-with-murdering-maria-rawlings-in-east-london-14555399/amp/

I often drive past the spot where she was found because I work nearby and it's really upsetting.

I just feel so demoralised that Redbridge council cannot make the borough a safe place for women and yet has money to burn commissioning children's entertainment by "Meddlesome monkey." Angry

I can never un-see this image now 🤮 pass me the eye bleach!

Why does a fully grown man think this is acceptable?!? What bloke goes "I know what will be fun, shoving a plastic penis in to a child's face..." Wtf.

I second checking his computer. You know what just raid his house now please.

Akire · 11/07/2021 20:23

I meant if you previous seen drag queens with sexual names in your library and overly sexual behaviour under the LGTB umbrella. It’s not unreasonable to see this and think mmmm maybe this has something to do with it at the library.

Rather than I don’t know the library just picked this business who happens sell penis waving monkey as kids entertainment.

I’m just saying why some people may make the link as the question was asked.of course it not like saying any sexual behaviour must be LGBT community. Of course not that would be silly.

Like I said that’s just what I read on Twitter from comments from local people.

I don't blame the LGBT community for this - it's the responsibility of Redbridge council employees for not exercising due diligence and appropriate safeguarding. But I am not surprised as we are living through a time where LGBT groups openly advocate for porn soaked queer theory and the removal of safeguarding from children and women and I do see this as part of that continuum.
Akire · 11/07/2021 20:30

Plus it has be said anything with even remote rainbow link is taken as given is LGTB umbrella. I like rainbows but Pinterest thinks this means I’m Interesting in LGTB issue and anything pride such is the link

PaleGreenGhost · 11/07/2021 20:31

I don't understand the rationale behind booking this stuff for small kids.

If they're not held back by parents who believe you're either a footballer or a princess, most small kids will naturally dress up in "drag" or run around half naked or mix and match dressing up outfits in hilarious ways. That element is nothing new to most kids.

So what exactly do these performers believe they are bringing kids which is new or educational or important? I wonder if any of them actually have kids or have worked with them?

That's what you take from this?
BlueberryCheezecake · 11/07/2021 20:34

There isn't even a rainbow. The monkey has a multicoloured costume. That's it.

Those of you going "No, but it is the LGBTs, it's definitely their fault somehow" are really not doing anything to dispell the impression that you've just made a kneejerk bigoted assumption.
