Obscene costumed volunteers handing out summer reading at Redbridge library

A library had a man in a rainbow monkey costume, with a dildo penis and a fake exposed butt, handing out summer reading books.

Look at this obscene sex clown mocking and terrorising local Muslim women:

twitter.com/HasAhmed_/status/1413931013340807172/photo/2

The library is, of course, apologizing about it now:

twitter.com/RedbridgeLibs/status/1413975910433366020

But during the event, they thought it was pretty funny:

twitter.com/turtillachip/status/1414255270038016009

What is happening? Why should parents going to the library's summer reading program worry that THIS is what they'll see? The website for this troupe of "performers" clearly shows this monkey performer with his fake penises inch from children's faces. There has been no vetting. No safeguarding.

And there'll just be an apology, another "isolated incident." Of course, the local Muslim women and girls know exactly what this library thinks of them now, and what may happen to them if they choose to even walk nearby. Do we think they're going to want to go in?

Yeah great big swinging dildo dongs are probably best confined to strictly adult only events I would have thought.

Do they need it spelling out that clearly? They must do. They’re too dangerous to be left unchecked.

Dear Mandinga Arts,

If you’re reading this:

Rainbow dildo butt monkey at “adults only” event - ok.

Rainbow dildo butt monkey at open public event - never ok.

Rainbow dildo butt monkey at children’s event - never ok.

Yours faithfully,
Everyone with any ounce of decency.

PS Please undergo proper safeguarding training. And not from the NSPCC, they’re no good any more either (rubber piss wank man not forgotten).

I showed 17yo DS the picture of the monkey last night.

He spends about 80% of his waking hours on Twitter, is by no stretch of the imagination a sheltered little flower, and occasionally alludes to things he’s seen online or happening in his circle which make my hair stand on end.

He was almost comically aghast. I don’t recall ever seeing someone’s jaw drop quite so visibly, and he was rendered (highly uncharacteristically) speechless.

If he, instinctively and without the apparent prejudice inherent to the middle aged woman Hmm could see how wrong this was, it doesn’t bode well that the company themselves still appear to think their only error here is to have have had the misfortune to encounter some tiny minority of the wilfully offended.

Rubber piss wank man was a member of staff at NSPCC who liked to wear rubber fetish gear to work, film himself wanking in the loos there and upload it. When these videos were spotted (he didn't hide them) and it was suggested that this was hugely inappropriate for any employee but even more so for a charity with statutory powers responsible for protectibg children the NSPCC response on twitter was to call complainants homophobes and ask people to report their posts to get the posters banned.

@Ifonlyus

I'm very surprised to learn that libraries take on volunteers without a DBS check. Surely they can't be volunteers who have access to the library membership database.

Ah fuck, I hadnt thought of that. Maybe the investigation should look into every volunteers hard drive and who accessed what info from the library.

Well I think one actually could not make this up it's so outlandish.
Man who worked at nspcc wore rubber suit under normal clothing and filmed self wanking in the loos. Also on a work trip in hotel room, filmed self wanking, also had LinkedIn with his website mentioned prominently with all these clips of self wanking. I mean even a film of this story wouldnt be made.

I’m genuinely confused why my post was deleted. Do MNHQ give you any feedback?

The point I was trying to make, obviously not very well, is that this is a larger safeguarding issue than just one person making a poor choice. A lot of people, most of whom would have had safeguarding training, either did not recognise this as inappropriate or did not feel able to speak out.

And when people brought this to the attention of his employer (that he was filming himself in fetish gear wanking on NSPCC premises then putting the footage on line), did the NSPCC think
A. Potential safeguarding issue, definitely damaging to our reputation, or
B. Call the people who were worried homophobes and back rubber wanking man.

If you email they'll tell you.

I didn't see your post before it got zapped but if you said anything that could be construed as suggesting that paedophiles use the LGBTQIA+++ umbrella to hide under / to push their agenda / to groom children and their parents that might be why.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks ItsAllGoingToBeFine

I did use the word grooming, I think I said “society is being groomed” with implied reference to the modern day PIE-type groups I listed and linked to in my enormous post earlier on this thread. As with the Jimmy Saville debacle, a lot of safeguarding-trained people saw this costume and did not act. It is a massive safeguarding failure and should not been written off as an isolated mistake by one person or one organisation.

I didn’t make any connection to LGBTQ at all Confused

I wonder if this will go poof too?

MNHQ seem a bit jumpy.

I know and we were called homophobic, the killer being none of us knew he was gay until well after the original complaint got traction.

@TheSockMonster

On the subject of kids finding toilet humour funny and no kids being harmed, that is hardly the point. If you erode children’s boundaries you put them at risk of harm later.

What’s the difference between a man in a monkey costume with a rubber penis waving it at kids in a library and a man in a monkey costume with a rubber penis waving it at kids in a park?

What about a man in a suit with a rubber penis waving it at kids in a park?

Or a man in a monkey suit waving an actual penis?

Penises are funny, right? Kids love penises!

When I was around 9 I was walking to school with my little brother, when the local pervert emerged from the side of his house naked apart from a wig and makeup, doing what I now know was wanking. To be 100% honest we thought it was pretty hilarious. A man who we thought was a woman until we saw his willy and he was pulling on it like crazy. We both told all our friends in school and it was this shocking, funny thing to all the kids. Some of whom said they or some other kids they knew had seen the same.

I couldn't understand why my parents and other adults took it so seriously when they heard. The only time I was worried was when my dad notified the police and they went to talk to him. Because it really didn't feel like any sort of crime.

So yeah, kids won't necessarily be upset or hurt by dildo monkey. But that doesn't mean it's not a really serious incident.

In PMQs today, Boris congratulated himself on the £1.9m the government has spent on this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

No mention of some of that paying for a Rainbow Dildo Butt Monkey.

And yet she is still listed as an active Director on Companies House and listed in the last set of accounts as being owed money by the Company?

Julieta Gimpel Rubio

bid.gorringes.co.uk/past-auctions/srgo10006/lot-details/9971b6a9-7de3-44c7-9e38-a4300132f41f

Under the name Julieta Rubio she has exhibited at various galleries including the October Gallery, a notable avant-grade London gallery.

She is also a puppeteer.

Julieta Rubio aka Julieta Gimpel is a British citizen according to Companies House
find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/06026004/officers

However according to the Mandinga website she studied Fine Arts in Bogota, Colombia and in the 1980s she founded the Colombian Carnival Group. The monkey costumes appear in a selection of most recognisable Mandinga designs over the years at the bottom of the following webpage…although no dildos are visible so maybe they were added at a later date?

Columbia is a fascinating country for anyone reflecting on the issue of sexual practices and cultural relativism. Sexual practices we consider abhorrent (and a serious disease risk) are considered completely acceptable for some communities in Columbia, including some practices involving minors.

This trailer to a Vice documentary explains the situation rather well.
Warning - no explicit imagery, explicit dialogue in Spanish language and English subtitles - brain bleach may be useful after viewing

For the avoidance of doubt I am not suggesting that the practices described in the video are acceptable. I believe that, apart from anything else, they present a serious risk of the creation of novel zoonotic diseases.

I am simply pointing out the limitations of cultural relativism in relation to issues of sex, pedagogy and sexuality.

This is important as some posters on the mumsnet threads re the dildo monkey costume have suggested that the dildo monkey is appropriate when viewed through a culturally sensitive lens.

The thing is we are in the UK and many things that are acceptible in Colombia and Japan are not acceptable here.

Cannibalism could be considered acceptable when viewed through the correct "culturally sensitive lens". Doesn't mean we should all tuck in.

I very naively assumed that somebody had hired the wrong costume. I didn’t realise that they were designed by the company.

And they say the costumes were acceptable in a ‘mixed’ audience??!!!
