Obscene costumed volunteers handing out summer reading at Redbridge library

A library had a man in a rainbow monkey costume, with a dildo penis and a fake exposed butt, handing out summer reading books.

Look at this obscene sex clown mocking and terrorising local Muslim women:

The library is, of course, apologizing about it now:

But during the event, they thought it was pretty funny:

What is happening? Why should parents going to the library's summer reading program worry that THIS is what they'll see? The website for this troupe of "performers" clearly shows this monkey performer with his fake penises inch from children's faces. There has been no vetting. No safeguarding.

And there'll just be an apology, another "isolated incident." Of course, the local Muslim women and girls know exactly what this library thinks of them now, and what may happen to them if they choose to even walk nearby. Do we think they're going to want to go in?

Ah yes the lovely "we're coming for your children" song. Yesterday I believe? Of course these things NEVER happen.

Datun · 11/07/2021 21:52

Ah, right, the group is called Mandinga arts.

First hit on urban dictionary
Mandingo
Referring to one's penis. Usually large in size.

Let's get the L out of that. I would be unshocked of unshockedville, unshockedshire, if it turned out that ZERO lesbians were involved in this debacle.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2021 21:54

Other than as horrified bystanders /parents I imagine

chickenyhead · 11/07/2021 21:55

Maybe the council allowed this because they don't have the money to fund the libraries anymore. Discourage children, close the library.

It's a shame because as a child, I used to escape to the library most days.

littlbrowndog · 11/07/2021 21:55

I got 3 kids. I never asked the library to bring in dildo monkeys or schools to bring in drag queens

Where is this coming from ?

Datun · 11/07/2021 21:55

Absolutely no one is conflating LGBT people with this. But they're fully aware the LGBT is being used as a Trojan horse.

In the same way you dont conflate priests with paedophilia. Paedophiles use them relentlessly because they are meant to be above suspicion.

Likewise teachers, police and scoutmasters.

Don't create sacred castes. Be open to criticism. Be open to scrutiny.

No one is above suspicion.

Gosh even puts Mhairi Black and Flow Job into the shade.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/07/2021 21:59

They're not conflating LGBT people with this here, on liberal, feminist mumsnet.

I'm afraid they are elsewhere, and it's not going to end well for anyone.

FemaleAndLearning · 11/07/2021 21:59

Took a look at their gallery on their website and a few pictures of the monkeys. They are funded by the Arts Council.

We're watching it happen. In ten years time there will be an enquiry and lessons will be learnt.

And obviously it would be much better if all of us could raise the alarm, get this spoken about publicly now and stopped before it goes any further.

OldCrone · 11/07/2021 22:00

This is a carnival company called Mandingo arts who have no connection to the LGBT

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2021 22:01

Yes but I suspect we'll be told to #bekind and shut up. Isolated incident. Very sorry. Won't happen again. Until it does. Screw the children, they're just there for the sexual kicks.

The group now calls itself "Mandinga Arts" (look up what "mandingo" porn is if you want to know what this is about), but it was previously a specifically "Pride"-invoking group name and explicitly LGBT. They even use the same costumes!

Now they are trying to use the cover of being just some Carnival-inspired group, whatever makes it easier to get close to children without proper safeguarding, I suppose.

It’s pretty common for carnival groups to co-opt pride in order to make money and that was 1 pride festival 6 years ago. From reading their site Mandingo arts was founded in 2002. Its a pretty damn big leap to assume their name came from that black exploitation movie and the subsequent racist (and typically heteronormative) porn trope. But sure me and my girlfriend totally have an agenda to throw penises in front of your children. We’re loving the rising homophobia it really makes life safer for our children.

If you look above on the thread, historically it was. The act hasn't changed. Just the name and wording.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 11/07/2021 22:05

If an assorted bunch of mumsnetters can find out this stuff in a couple of hours, why couldn't the people actually paying the carnival group also do the same googling?

PaterPower · 11/07/2021 22:06

“Its men jumping around it their horrible fucking outfits taking the piss out of our kids.”

It’s a man at the library, yes, but if you look at pictures of the “troupe” and read through some of their SM posts you’ll see there are female members too. And they’re dressed the same way.

TheDinosaurMum · 11/07/2021 22:06

Yeah as a lesbian I can firmly say I'm sat on the "outraged bench" and I imagine many of my other lesbian friends who are mother's would happily join me there.

I can never take DS to a Drag Queen story time. Not because of any sorta personal stance on them, he's terrified of them. You know like some people are scared of clowns, yea DS screamed when he saw one before, I'm not sure if he didn't understand or it was the very heavy outlandish makeup but you'd swear he was watching the film IT 😳

Exactly what I saw after that awful Washington Post article. Post upon post of 'this is what happens when you give gays rights'. I hardly slept. I cried. I've been gay bashed before. I don't look straight. Like I say, I get that this isn't anything to do with me. But when corporations swathe everything in rainbows and open perversion is paraded in front of kids, I'm not stupid enough to think that the lads who shout dyke at me down the local shopping centre, or their dads, are going to accept that.

Cheers 'allies'. Thanks a fucking bunch.

Agreed.

Plus they could have just checked after they emerged from the changing room and spotted the bloke in a costume with a giant schlong hanging out.

EsmaCannonball · 11/07/2021 22:07

One thing that concerns me about the whole 'furry' culture is that if autogynephilia is a thing then it's very likely that autopaedophilia and autozoophilia are things as well. Basically I wouldn't let people who are into this stuff (or the adult nappy and puppy play people) anywhere near animals and children. Anyone who fetishes childhood or things associated with it just raises red flags.

Autozoophelia. I'd never actually heard that term. Isn't that what furries and puppies actually are?

It is just one of the questions that is never answered.
