In yesterday's Times, in response to the judgemental statements made by certain male commentators about Emma Raducanu:

"Middle-aged men should generally avoid commenting on the physical or mental well-being of teenage girls. They will never experience or fully understand that world."

Well done Emma Raducanu - whatever your issues may have been last time around, it seems you have overcome them and we have a young woman (not "cis", not male) who is triumphing in her chosen sport. You go girl.

The hypocrisy from McEnroe who had many well documented outbursts on court. How well did he handle the pressure.

Emma is not only an unbelievable talent but comes across as very mature and down to earth in the pre and post match interviews.

Pish. He was showboating. It was sport-as-entertainment rather than sport-for-sport's-sake. He knew that he would be remembered in future more for "you cannot be serious" than for his tennis. It was all done for effect and people fell for it hook, line and sinker.

I don't think McEnroe's comments are that bad, does he say much worse than the occasion ‘got too much’ for her. He is paid to commentate and had to call it as he saw it at the time and he did play as a teenager at Wimbledon so knows what he is talking about. I do not think it is fair to lump him in with the morons who rushed to gloat on social media afterwards.
