I haven't read it yet but I don't get it. How did we get to a point where it's legal to lock women in with sex offenders? Fuck me, but women's rights have a long way to go.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/07/2021 11:07

I’ve just read the first couple of paras and wanted to throw up. My blood pressure reacts quite strongly to bull. Gender my arse.

dyslek · 02/07/2021 11:07

Oh Jesus Fucking Christ, just as you think sanity is reasserting itself.

Whoever is behind this has clout, I'll give them that.

teawamutu · 02/07/2021 11:07

Shit shit shit.

But all isn't lost - this may be legal, but if the coverage goes big MoJ may have to change policy anyway?

They just ditched Stonewall after all, they may be uncapturing...

Datun · 02/07/2021 11:07

@DialSquare

This need to be picked up by every newspaper in the land.
This.

These stupid, dangerous rules have been put in place.

They need sunlight, and publicising from one end of the country to the other.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 02/07/2021 11:08

FFS Angry

mummymathsteacher · 02/07/2021 11:10

This is just horrific. Women really don't matter to the establishment. What can we do?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/07/2021 11:11

These poor women. Those rotten ars. How can they in all honesty say this? How can these people (I assume mostly of the male type) look their wives/mums/daughters in the face?

EyesOpening · 02/07/2021 11:11

I only hope that even if it’s legal, they can still decide not to do it, to make alternate accommodations

PearPickingPorky · 02/07/2021 11:12

Never has there been a clearer example of how the law does not work for women.

Women are locked up with rapists.

And convictions for rape are at 1.7%.

What the hell kind of a country is this.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 02/07/2021 11:12

FFS. Had a feeling it would end up going this way, still shit though. Gave it a skim and saw bits about oh the data, the data is too small blah blah blah.

So how many women need to be attacked before they get their precious data, and this fucking insanity ends? 10? 50? 100?

Time and time again, no one gives a fuck about women Angry

ScreamingMeMe · 02/07/2021 11:13

I honestly feel sick.

RedDogsBeg · 02/07/2021 11:14

Well surprise, surprise women inmates are nothing more than fodder for male rapists.

Can this be taken to a Higher Court?

This does need publicising, it's a fucking disgrace.

OvaHere · 02/07/2021 11:15

So women are just acceptable collateral damage and abuse fodder for any man that feels like it?

I'm not really shocked. I was reading the AIBU thread this morning about an elderly woman upset about being showered by a male HCP and the amount of dismissive comments about distress was ridiculous even from other women.

We are expected to live in a world where male violence and sexual abuse of females is endemic and not only are we expected to live with it we are expected to pretend it doesn't happen if it means a man might be inconvenienced, have his feelings hurt or not get something he wants. Even if that man is a convicted rapist.

BSJohnson · 02/07/2021 11:16

Paras 75 and 76 are just a big ‘Yes, transwomen are more likely to be sexual aggressors than other men, but you know what, tough shit, ladies - you haven’t been assaulted enough to prove it yet’, aren’t they? Sad

yourhairiswinterfire · 02/07/2021 11:17

@DialSquare

This need to be picked up by every newspaper in the land.
Yup.

The feelings of males take priority over the dignity and SAFETY of our most vulnerable women.

It doesn't matter if women who are trapped and are supposed to be being cared for are raped and sexually assaulted. Because that sweet validation is far more important than women Angry

Disgraceful. We need to protest this.

moreofthisagain · 02/07/2021 11:17

FFS. Had a feeling it would end up going this way, still shit though. Gave it a skim and saw bits about oh the data, the data is too small blah blah blah

The data on male violence against women is not small though is it?

And all women who are assaulted by the move from sex segregated to gender segregated spaces are women who have ONLY been assaulted because of that move. They would NOT have been assaulted under sex segregation.

Women's bodies and bodily autonomy are not collateral damage.

Terhou · 02/07/2021 11:17

@toffeebutterpopcorn

I’ve just read the first couple of paras and wanted to throw up. My blood pressure reacts quite strongly to bull**. Gender my arse.
Really? The first couple of paragraphs say:

"The Claimant in this case challenges the lawfulness of the Defendant's policies relating to the care and management within the prison estate of persons who identify as the opposite gender from that which was assigned to them at birth. In particular, she challenges the policy in relation to the allocation to a women's prison of transgender women who have been convicted of sexual or violent offences against women."

"The Claimant (who has been granted anonymity in these proceedings) served a sentence of imprisonment between October 2016 and June 2020. She asserts that in August 2017, whilst held at HMP Bronzefield, she was sexually assaulted by "J", a transgender woman prisoner with a gender recognition certificate (who has also been granted anonymity). The Defendant makes no admission as to the occurrence or circumstances of that alleged assault."

How did that make you throw up?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/07/2021 11:19

So they are locking up women - who are mostly in jail for non violent crimes - with (fill in the rest - I don’t want a ban here) and they somehow think that this is fair?

All we need is for the social media ninnies to resurrect the ‘Free the Wethersfield One’ campaign to get the ball rolling on this one. Hayley helped get us here in the first place...

NotAlwaysWrong · 02/07/2021 11:20

The conflation of Gender and Sex - and the idea that thinking yourself a different gender automatically changes your sex - is where the fucking rot set in here. I can’t believe what I’m reading. Is this truly the law?

So, what happens now because this CANNOT be allowed to stand.

Worrysaboutalot · 02/07/2021 11:20

Surely this result is just saying MOJ can choose not to use the exemptions to exclude men from the women's estate.

However MOJ could choose to use the exemptions to exclude men from the women's estate.

So now public opinion has to pressure MOJ to use the exemptions, as situations like this is why the exemptions exist!

DialSquare · 02/07/2021 11:25

I come from a background where many people I grew up with could have/did end up in prison. I've visited male relatives in prison many times. I could have been one of these women but I was one of the very lucky ones who ended up in a good job at 16 and worked my way up to a very healthy disposable income. I'm fucking furious and am willing to use that income to contribute to any further crowd funding that may be required for this.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/07/2021 11:25

Haven't read the judgement yet but this is an absolute disgrace. The safety and privacy of women means nothing.

Tibtom · 02/07/2021 11:25

The was a judicial review of policy - could the claimant sue the MOJ for harm or sex discrimination?

teawamutu · 02/07/2021 11:26

Well put. MoJ now has to defend the decision in public.

And the way things have changed over the last year or so, that will be interesting.
