And Barclays don't give a stuff either...

The corporate wokeness is really getting me down. I am fortunate not to work for these companies but changing banks is harder than changing supermarkets especially when so many branches are closing. Barclays have really over-stepped with this bossy piece of bullying. This Barclays video that actually says you find it confusing? well you don't need to understand, just do the following (presumably without question!). It is just bullying, plain and simple.

Nice ratio

Who wants to be Sionice “feels feminine but expresses a masculine manner” when it comes to not taking a 34% wage cut?

And Barclays don't give a stuff either...

you need to educate yourself, don't expect the trans person to educate you.
You need to be an ally and show that your an ally

What dickish, aggressive sounding rubbish. I neither need, nor importantly want any sort of "education" from a trans ally.
Being admonished like this by a fucking bank is frankly bewildering.

Shameless appropriation of every protected characteristic and insight from every civil rights movement.

Jesus christ.

'You don't need to understand, just follow my orders'.

WTAF?!

Nice ratio though!

Only two positive/defending replies that I could see. So heartening to see the wholesale rejection of this ideology by the public.

There are some excellent replies...

Do stick to banking maybe keep branches open etc customers expect services not sermons!

@jon replying to @BarclaysUK
You don't even have support for this on twitter where being "woke" is celebrated. Does the ratio on previous tweets not give you a clue [likes 234 vs the 53 on Barclays' original tweet]

53 likes for a tweet from an account with 182.2k followers seems pretty poor

ChristinaXYZ · 02/07/2021 10:11

It is grim. I really hope loads of customers complain.

I haven’t complained despite the fact that I strongly disagree. I’m too afraid to publicise my GC opinions in case I get bullied, physically attacked, or doxxed and lose my job. I imagine there are millions of customers who feel the same.

There are probably a lot of Joe public people who have no idea about what happens to people who speak out and will complain about things like this, especially when companies like Barclays aren’t providing an adequate service
Cantquitebelievewhatitscometo · 03/07/2021 04:09

You don’t need to understand… do what we say.

How much did Barclays pay out for PPI misselling?

GlomOfNit · 03/07/2021 09:35

Clicked on the link this morning, watched with jaw dropped, 15 minutes later tried to show DH. The video has been changed! It's now a 26 second edit of soundbites and no longer spells out the 'You don't have to understand, just OBEY' message. Fecking gaslighters.

Incidentally, the full video is still - for now - viewable in all its glory on their website.

FlyPassed
thanks! And it's still linked in full on their website, there's a link to it below the now edited video. May not be up there for much longer, given the ratio they were getting.

merrymouse · 03/07/2021 09:43

'You don't have to understand, just OBEY'

Maybe the penny dropped that ‘you don’t have to understand’ is not appropriate for a financial services provider.

I posted this on another thread and realised maybe it should be here. Today I am doing a lot of ranting (at home) and therefore not always making sense.

There's a lot of push back, in general and I've just been reading about how CRT in the US (from which most of this springs) is undergoing an awful lot of criticism. This will be helpful for us because a lot of big corporations have been backing and if they see things reversing, they will have to re-think this trans with everything approach. I will be interested to see what the Bank of England does with its lighting scheme next year (unless of course there's another Pride event before then) and Barclays, will they continue down this route. Business doesn't like to be unpopular for long. Eventually it destroys their image - no matter how big they are.

Sorry, just fed up and need to blab - you might find me ranting on other threads. I need Wine

I think you're absolutely right - there is really big link between CRT and and attitudes to women. There was an excellent article in today's Telegraph by Zoe Strimpel - How Oxfam lost its way over anti-racism - that makes this point

Thank you so much for alerting me to this - I am overseas but still have some cash in a Barclays account in the UK. I will take great pleasure in telling them why I want to close it and transfer the funds elsewhere - though I expect they will say I have to attend the branch in person, which is obviously completely impossible right now . . . .

BaronessBomburst · 04/07/2021 15:51

I'm overseas too. Barclays very kindly closed all my accounts for me. Not compatible with Brexit and all that.
I'm with Revolut now.

DdraigGoch · 04/07/2021 19:21

@yeahbutnaw

If you're compiling a list of people/organisations that don't buy into GC ideology - it's gonna be a pretty fecking long list.

Probably easier to make a list of organisations that do support GC ideology.

It is correct that many mega corporations (you know, those nasty capitalists) are publicly denying reality. Amongst the wider population though, 95% of people know what a woman is. Many small businesses will be among them. As I avoid chains in favour of said small businesses, most of my consumption is ethical. Banking is monopolised by the big boys so it's a little more difficult to find a sensible bank (preferably one who don't help to prop up dictatorships).
CroydianSlip · 04/07/2021 19:39

I've long felt uncomfortable about being with Barclyas. I must get organised and swap.

Are there any decent, feminist/ethical options?

dyslek · 04/07/2021 19:52

Ah Barclays, the bank that supported aparthide South Africa.
