Twitter is telling them you cannot call yourself Korean if you’re not Korean.

OP posts:
Letsgetreadytocrumble · 23/06/2021 19:27

I have never heard of this person but they seem gloriously batshit!

They are also rather beautifully illustrating the double standards at play in the whole trans issue: 'How dare you claim to be Korean when you are not actually Korean' up against 'men who decide they are actually women are of course actual women and it is nothing but bigotry to suggest otherwise'....

Biscuitsneeded · 23/06/2021 19:30

Either it's satire, or he's mentally unwell.

Anyone remember the case of Rachel Dolezal who identified as black even though she wasn't? This article explains why her sense of self was so fragile and why it felt OK to her to see and portray herself as black. Poor woman was vilified, lost everything - this was only 6 years ago. Back then the woke crew were offended and felt she was stealing black people's cultural identity... How times change.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/06/2021 19:51

There was a man a while back who claimed he was female Thai.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/06/2021 19:55

Sorry - brain fog - he says he is a Filipino (man).

Worstyear2020 · 23/06/2021 20:08

We soon have race fluid too.

People are having too much fun to be able to identify themselves with whatever they want and whenever they want these days.

Smartiepants79 · 23/06/2021 20:12

There is something very wrong with that person.
I have serious concerns for their mental health.
This is the same as me identifying as a black man.
The world is a strange place right now!

acatcalledjohn · 23/06/2021 20:36

Surely this is satire?

Please tell me this is satire.

If this is real then 'kor' is seriously mentally unstable and should be sectioned.

acatcalledjohn · 23/06/2021 21:13

"I am Korean whether people accept it or not this is how I identify, this is what makes me happy," they wrote. "This is who I am. It’s in my DNA"

Someone please order "ean" an Ancestry DNA kit.

Smartiepants79 · 23/06/2021 21:20

Clearly doesn’t understand how DNA works…..

GoingGently · 23/06/2021 22:31

@CervixSampler

Love it. Basically, we should all be able to identify as whatever we feel we are. I'm a 5ft 6" Irish red head who speaks fluent Gaelic. Back in the real world I'm barely 5'3", my granddaddy was of Irish descent, my red has faded to more blonde and I know a few words of Gaelic. But that doesn't matter, right, because I have some Irish DNA. Somewhere. Possibly in my little toe.
Is gaming to blame?! Can young people today not tell the difference between an online avatar persona and reality??!! It's never crossed my mind before but perhaps a possibility?!
Bimblybomeyelash · 23/06/2021 22:45

Blimey I’m so confused by this. I really can’t work out what is real anymore.

SupermanInk · 23/06/2021 22:54

Clearly doesn’t understand how DNA works

There’s a lot of that about. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If men can be women and women can be men, this seems fine to me. I mean why not? All that science, reality, dna stuff doesn’t seem to matter anymore does it. Wink

NewlyGranny · 23/06/2021 23:39

Oli is stunning and brave and yet the people on twitter are not being kind. What is wrong with them?

If someone says they are Korean, they are Korean. No debate!

Tuberoses · 24/06/2021 08:17

Hang on, how can he be Korean but Rachel Dolezal couldn’t be black?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/06/2021 08:30

There was also a woman who said she is a cat and a... person who said they are an alien (original sex not clear, they transed then decided they didn’t have a sex and they were actually an alien).

There have been people like this since kitty was a cat. We all just used to not take them seriously...

NewlyGranny · 24/06/2021 09:42

People testing how far "validation" from others can be pushed, forced and compelled. It will surely get crazier before it collapses under the weight of its own ridiculousness, but we must be nearly there now.

I blame avatars, selfies, filters and Photoshop for giving susceptible people the idea that reality is optional.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/06/2021 09:44

Social media too - people ‘creating’ the perfect look and life...

JustcameoutGC · 24/06/2021 12:37

Newly Granny you are spot on.

Keepemguessing · 24/06/2021 12:47

If you google 'transgender' and 'avatar' or 'gaming' there is a lot of material. A couple of links below.

digitalcommons.uri.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1075&context=mgdr#:~:text=Avatars%20can%20change%20appearance%2C%20gender,desire%20through%20a%20fluid%20identity.&text=For%20trans%20gamers%2C%20avatars%20function,self%2C%20and%20often%20relieving%20dysphoria.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/06/2021 12:51

These seems to be a fair amount of influence from the cutesy anime world too.

Zeev · 24/06/2021 12:53

@Smartiepants79

Clearly doesn’t understand how DNA works…..
I expect it's the "My DNA is mine, and I am Korean, so my DNA is Korean" argument.

The same as "I am biological, and I'm a woman, so I'm a biological woman."

JediGnot · 24/06/2021 13:29

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that there is literally zero scientific basis for saying "I am a woman" when you are in fact a man, whereas his claim of having "Korean DNA" does actually have a tiny tiny chance of being true. People with ancestors from certain places do have certain genetics in common, however trivial in the scheme of things.

There is a one in a million or 100 million chance that he does have half korean great great grandmother, and the tiniest touch of korean dna, whereas there is literally zero chance that he is actually in any way scientifically female.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/06/2021 13:33

Well, one of my parents was a woman so that makes me half woman...

I made that up but it’s a hell of a better argument than some I’ve read...

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 13:40

I'm gonna start identifying as a French heiress.
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers will do.
wait for it....

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/06/2021 13:46

maybe all the horse meat that was sold as minced beef was not a mistake!
if horses want to identify as bulls who are we to debate them?!

horse shit & bull shit are already the same thing after all
