Name of this section

I'm curious. Does anyone here actually like/agree with the new name, 'Sex & gender debate'? I'm interested to see the general consensus and how much support there is here for the name MNHQ have chosen.

Personally, I'd prefer 'Women's Sex-Based Rights' because I come here to post about those, not to have debates about sex and gender. I can't really see how one could have those particular debates here without running afoul of the special language rules, anyway.

If you do like the new name, could you say why? And if not, can you improve on my suggestion?

I haven't seen anyone like it yet. We had a thread about titles we would prefer when MN first floated the idea of this name. MN don't seem to have taken any of our suggestions into consideration.

Generally posters wanted to see the words women or feminism included and the did not want to see the word gender.

Thanks for that link! Some very good ideas there, and it gives a sense of the strength of opinion.

It's just bizarre that they could have decided on a name that nobody seems to want, so I was trying to see if there might be a minority who like it.

Interesting that MNHQ ignored all of us in terms of:

• whether the split should take place or not
• telling us why MNHQ thought the board should be split
• what the new name should be

I would've preferred 'Women's Sex-Based Rights' if it had to be split at all.

Oh, & add to that list:

• telling us when the split would take place, or that it had taken place

The respect they have for us is awesome.

The 'sex-based' is superfluous.

All women's rights are sex-based as women are all of one sex.

I don't subscribe to the idea of gender , nor do I think sex and gender are subject to debate

The use of the word "debate" is extremely goady and a bit patronising.

You don't get "childcare debate" or "special needs debate" you just get "parenting" or "behaviour/development".

I'd be ok with "Feminism Chat" coupled with "women's sex based rights" for more robust discussion.

This is the Ghetto. We get to catch each other's nasty woman disease and dine on meagre waffles.

Awful. I can't remember anyone making this suggestion as a name.

“Sex and gender debate”
“Other feminism chat”

It’s also taking longer to read boards going back and forth as they just randomly chucked threads anywhere, I suppose they will move them back to feminism section once the men start making threads to debate sex and that other stuff I don’t believe in.

Women's sex based rights. Given this is within the Feminism section, we're not here to 'debate' gender.

On Debate

That's exactly what MN seem to think we are, from the behaviour of some of the Twitter staff and Justine's tone in the response on SiteStuff.

It's like we're in a mixture of a freak shoe and boxing ring and they are inviting those who disagree with feminism to glove up for a fight.

"Roll up, roll up. Weve got some feminists here, feisty gals. Come and tear a strip off them. All contenders welcome. The more you hate feminists the better. You can call them names but they aren't allowed to speak back. Roll up, roll up"

Really don't like it. I can swallow the split, but the name is rubbish. I'd be ok with women's sex-based rights.

The split is really annoying me. I can't remember what threads are there and keep flicking between the two. It's meaning I am spending twice as much time 'checking' for new threads. And I already spend way too much time on mn as it is.
Can I request everyone just posts here for ease anyway, since all threads will concern sex anyway.

Unless we can all as a matter of principle try to title every new thread on here something with feminism, women's rights or FWR - and maybe posts too.

It's laborious can't the main directory name be clickable? If you are in sex and gender debate you have to go back to Talk to be able to switch to Feminist chat. I want the dub directory before sex and gender, this will make it a lot easier to navigate.
