Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Can start a thread in Sex and Gender, but not Feminist Chat. Why is that?

Just as title says.

OP posts:

Im not very techy, so please bear with me, but looking at feminist chat, it seems to have lots of threads about sex and gender on it? Im really confused now.

About sex and gender, or about the euphemistically named "gender debate"? If the latter Im sure MNHQ would be terribly grateful if you reported all those threads so they could move them Wink
AfternoonToffee · 21/06/2021 14:52

@littlbrowndog

I went into the threads I am on and suddenly discovered I was in a sex and gender place

Weird as

And here I am

Me too.

This is just rubbish. The title is rubbish it really doesn't conjure up a good image.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/06/2021 14:54

It's shit. But MNHQ have dug their heels in.

thirdfiddle · 21/06/2021 14:57

So if I have a feminist issue where sex is relevant ( and I can't think of any where it isn't!), do I put it in chat, or am I expected to anticipate that genderists will object because it involves sex and post it in the sex/gender forum?
There seems to be a degree of catch-22 about this. We'll let you post but only in sex/gender. Ha, you're posting in sex/gender so your feminist point must be anti trans!

bellinisurge · 21/06/2021 14:58

Maybe we can discuss accessorising on here. Whatsername from the Fawcett Society said TW have a lot to teach women including how to accessorise.

RoyalAcademyOfFarts · 21/06/2021 14:59

Is this just a way of saying ‘gender criticals over here’ ‘lib fems over there’?

It seems absolutely bonkers. Feminism chat without sex and gender?! Sex and gender not feminist issues?!

I think you have verbalised what has upset me about this (I was surprised to feel like I do) This is the corner of banishment. The bullies have won.
MrsWooster · 21/06/2021 15:00

I don’t think I want to pay £50 per year for a place that hives off discussion of single sex space from feminism.
@mnhq

AfternoonToffee · 21/06/2021 15:04

Interesting. So telling women how not to be murdered is a Sex and gender issue, someone taking their clothes off for men's MH is a Feminist chat issue. Who decides and how?

33feethighandrising · 21/06/2021 15:06

There's no easy way to get from one of the feminist sections to the other. It's really disjointed.

SpindleWhorl · 21/06/2021 15:08

The Sorting Hat decides.

I don't think you're allowed. Wink It will become a them and us.
BoreOfWhabylon · 21/06/2021 15:10

I don't think we've been banished or that bullies have won anything.

MNHQ seems to have moved only current discussions that don't have a sex v gender component to the new board. Everything else is still here.

Just carry on as we did before.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/06/2021 15:11

Is Feminist a bad word now?

OhHolyJesus · 21/06/2021 15:12

@DialSquare

I've got Feminism Chat saved as a favourite but when I go into the subject, everything is now headed Sex and Gender Debate.
Same here. So feminist chat has been renamed? I never had a response to my question about guidelines in the site thread. I'm guessing that the guidelines no longer apply.
AfternoonToffee · 21/06/2021 15:14

Bore I really feel like we have, and the board will just be known as the 'anti-trans board'

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/06/2021 15:14

I do think it would be better if both boards were under a FWR topic.

So, I'm going to report this post so that MNHQ see it, because @MNHQ goes nowhere, it only works if you @ a specific MNHQer or poster.

Don’t let them have this.

Stuff them if they say it - misogynistic

AfternoonToffee · 21/06/2021 15:16

Rules pinned on Sex and Gender, not on Feminism Cat.

Take from that what you wish.

stumbledin · 21/06/2021 15:18

Its up to all of us whether we follow the rules.

And as it is feminist chat no longer has any rules, so why relegate yourself to a specially supervised space.

There has been no explanation.

Not sure how you can organise an online picket - but suggest we dont let ourselves be kettle by an annonymous group who hasn't even explained itself.

Can you imagine how anyone new to mumsent goes to the Feminism section, sees chat, and then the option Sex and Gender and thinks I dont understand.

NecessaryScene · 21/06/2021 15:18

So feminist chat has been renamed?

Yes, the long-running board we're on has been renamed again and is now "Sex and gender" (in the "Feminism & Women's Rights" section). The URL is still www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/, reflecting its original name.

Some topics have been moved to a new board called "Feminism chat" at www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feminism/

Some recent topics have been moved to the new board. The old /womens_rights/ URLs for those topics now redirect to the new one, so it looks like no links should be broken.

(Not sure where you could find anything on the deleted almost-unused boards though)

It seems like nowhere wants our money
Outbutnotoutout · 21/06/2021 15:19

@SimonedeBeauvoirscat

So, all that time which so many women put into constructively engaging with an idea which had been floated seemingly off the top of MNHQ’s head halfway through a thread about a totally different issue and in response we get …. No response. And a fait accompli. (And no response to the thread the original query was about either, I note).

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

The level of disrespect to their own users is just breathtaking.

No debate 🙄
NotTerfNorCis · 21/06/2021 15:20

Next step: TRAs pressure Mumsnet into removing this board 'because they've already got a feminism board'.

Bit late in the day really. I think gender critical feeling is on the rise, and things like Laurel Hubbard competing in the Olympics will only intensify it.
