Hateful haberdashery in Brighton

skeletonkey · 20/06/2021 13:39

I was so excited to see real ribbons on a real tree in Brighton as I was visiting today. Whoever put them there - thank you. You have cheered me immensely, and made me feel less alone.

Goodness, how are the traumatised burghers of Brighton coping with this onslaught of ribbons😂

Igmum · 20/06/2021 13:49

Wonderful news Grin- but will it result in Police action?

Hoppinggreen · 20/06/2021 13:51

Literal violence

FFSFFSFFS · 20/06/2021 13:56

Oh dear there will be people fainting all over Brighton today

Redshoeblueshoe · 20/06/2021 13:59

I've found a perfect place to put some #Hatefulhaberdashery in Manchester. I won't get the opportunity this week, but I'll let you know when I do.

flightofthecrow · 20/06/2021 14:02

What does this even mean?

SlothInATreeSituation · 20/06/2021 14:03

Love this! 🙌

whojamaflip · 20/06/2021 14:07

I'm completely confused 🤷‍♂️ google not helping so please could someone explain?

skeletonkey · 20/06/2021 14:08

@flightofthecrow look up @Dis_Critic on twitter. Inspiring women (and maybe men, too, who knows?) to tie ribbons in suffragette colours to public spaces in support of women all over the country and now the world. A particularly interesting thing to do in Brighton, which has a Green run council totally captured by gender bollocks.

💜🤍💚

BigPyjamas · 20/06/2021 14:10

Anyone know where I can buy suffrage ribbon? Google yielded only options at £20 a reel

BigPyjamas · 20/06/2021 14:11

Apologies, suffragette ribbon.

Would love to decorate my local town

Frenchfancy · 20/06/2021 14:11

flightofthecrow · 20/06/2021 14:11

@skeletonkey. I don't have twitter but your explanation is great. Thanks
love that idea

Waitwhat23 · 20/06/2021 14:11

For those who haven't heard about hateful haberdashery, its a big thing up here in Scotland due to women protesting against the Scottish Government's attacks on women's rights - forwomen.scot/03/04/2021/women-wont-wheesht/

There have also been protests with shoes (to show women walking away from politicians who do not support them) and the phrase 'if you don't respect my sex, don't expect my x'.

skeletonkey · 20/06/2021 14:12

@whojamaflip, sorry cross post. I can't post a photo cos on a phone, but search #hatefulhaberdashery or #womenwontwheest on twitter and you'll get some lovely pictures.

Waitwhat23 · 20/06/2021 14:12

@BigPyjamas I just buy the 3 separate colours on Amazon and tie them together.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2021 14:14

@Hoppinggreen

Literal violence
Or as someone more clever than me said

Literal violet
With a bit of green and white 😉

BlackeyedSusan · 20/06/2021 14:15

gosh, i hope it can't be mistaken for something other than a ribbon...

MouseyTheVampireSlayer · 20/06/2021 14:15

I've been inspired to get ribbons too! Ànd a lovely pin from the adult human female shop.
For those wondering about where to get ribbon eBay does buy 2 get one free and you can pick the suffragette colours. It's probably even cheaper to go to your local sewing shop if you can too.

Waitwhat23 · 20/06/2021 14:15

It's called 'hateful haberdashery' in part due to MSP's tweeting ridiculously hyperbolic statements about how threatened they feel by ribbons and stickers and reporting it to the Police in some cases. Kirkcaldy Police were eviscerated by the general public for investigating a 'women won't wheesht' sticker stuck to a lamppost as a hate crime.

eBay is your friend.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 20/06/2021 15:28

You can get 15m of any colour ribbon from Hobbycraft. So, green, white and purple will set you back £3.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/06/2021 15:49

Gosh. Thoughts and prayers with the good people of Brighton and the emergency services (for dealing with a mass fir of the vapours).

A Scottish actor had had to go into hiding and given a shiny award for being brave for less shocking behaviour.

theThreeofWeevils · 20/06/2021 16:41

Or if rather than Amazon or the rather overpriced Hobbycraft, you would rather support an independent business, Fred's have a good range of everything you could possibly want in terms of haberdashery ribbon

www.freds-haberdashery.co.uk

No connection with the business, but a great friend who lives in Chesterfield adores them. I hope to visit the shop one day Smile
