Some have been archived -

  • Break it down for me
  • It never happens resource thread

Any others you would nominate for saving for posterity?

Confused

I thought this was simply a thread for posters to add links to things they think are worth archiving in case it all gets wiped in the reshuffle.

endofthelinefinally · 17/06/2021 23:59

These threads and this board are such a significant and important part of history, it would be really awful if they disappeared. I hope somebody with technical skills will archive them for posterity.

Thecatonthemat · 18/06/2021 00:30

So glad to see Spartacus again. There are very few threads that don’t have some interesting or relevant facts or opinions and I would really hate any of them to be lost. The staniland ones on AIBU were also good for a while..

NiceGerbil · 18/06/2021 01:58

Threads with Dittany getting stuck in!

Quaggars · 18/06/2021 02:07

Didn't see Spartacus first time round, heard about it though, just read and feel a bit urgh about.
Why can't we say TIM (sorry, can't remember exact title!) sticks in my mind, started by happydappy (can't find thread by googling, just tried) made a couple of people think WTF and spring over to non GC side if I remember correctly (and I know I do)

Quaggars · 18/06/2021 02:08

Seeing as the thread asks for most memorable threads on FWR

ArabellaScott · 18/06/2021 07:44

LangCleg, that was why I started it, yes, to find threads that we refer to often that would be useful to archive.

It's not so much the technical skills, end, it's not that hard to archive stuff, it's more that it's v time consuming, as you have to do it page by page.

archive.org/

On here, just press 'web', and a box pops up, that says 'save page now'. You just put your URL in there, and save it (I choose to save outlinks and a copy). You have to do this page at a time for each thread.

It's a good idea to save any pages/threads you think are useful!

I can't find them but there were lots about mermaids, one in particular where many posters delved into archives. Eg hostels in the Peak District that had been used in the past, if anyone remembers it?

It was a long thread. A lot about the residentials iirc.

R0wantrees · 18/06/2021 07:58

ArabellaScott How would people find the archived threads if interested?

NecessaryScene · 18/06/2021 08:11

If you know the URL, because you found it in some other archive, just paste it into archive.org's Wayback Machine.

Just asking for www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/* (with the asterisk) will show you everything it's ever recorded for FWR, and you can browse. And you can use the "filter" field to look for stuff in the URI/title.

Not figured out how to search by keyword within pages in that area.

Once you've found a topic, if it's been fully archived, should be able to use the next/previous buttons as usual.

There are other archiving sites - if you're looking for something it might be on archive.is.

WarriorN · 18/06/2021 08:12

That's a good one R0 but it's older than that. I feel like it might be around 2018.

I had concerns threads would be lost with re org of this. I suspect ulterior motives tbh.

WarriorN · 18/06/2021 08:14

It may have actually been about one of the first big times reports to do with the Tavi or beginnings of people raising concerns from within. And as mentioned mermaids' involvement a lot, there was a lot of discussion and looking into the evolvement of those residentials.

I agree with this. There is a culture of erasing/ rewriting history atm that I find deeply worrying.
WarriorN · 18/06/2021 08:25

A thread like the one I'm thinking of is very enlightening to read now.

Hence why R0 is targeted. Grateful for her filing system!

Also, the one about Stella's documentary was good.

WarriorN · 18/06/2021 08:27

I'll have to go back through ones linked here to see.

If I log onto my own account on a computer can I see all the threads I've ever contributed to?

endofthelinefinally · 18/06/2021 08:34

But MN can delete anything.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 18/06/2021 08:54

Spartacus for me. It was like a thousand women throwing off the shackles of #bekind and just roaring Noooo. Very moving.

It was amazing, especially the first one.

It would be useful to have an index, as stumbledin suggests above. Hm.
