For all those who PM’ed and wanted me to put it on its own thread.
Here you go.

This is the video my year 6 watched at school (without any consultation with parents)
I’m just speechless.

They were also told about Robert/a Cowell and puberty blockers were mentioned, although I’m not sure of those details.

Head and deputy are the safeguarding leads at the school, so where do I start with the Governors? Overwhelmed.

Drs wrongly assign gender!! Wow. I guess the parents do too , and the sonographer and the nurses and all thr medical team, and extended family and the 3 year d sibling. Its amazing that so many people can look at a baby and all be wrong about its sex , or is it gender ?

KittyValentine · 24/05/2021 15:04

Blaire White did a video a few years ago about the crap that Lindsey and her teddy are spouting.

ScreamingMeMe · 24/05/2021 15:05

@Cliff1975

This must be such a relief for trans kids to see, especially those with unaccepting parents or parents they can't talk to. For kids that are not trans it helps them to understand their peers who are. What are you all afraid of?
Have you read the thread?

Year 6? Seems a bit baby-ish/young with the talking teddy for Year 6. My DS wouldn't be impressed with that at all.

easterndreaming · 24/05/2021 15:08

I am bringing my children up in a Mediterranean country and even though I often feel nostalgic and sad that they have not had some of the great parts of the uk education system, I don't in any way envy you on this count. I can be 100% sure they would not be able to show such rubbish to young children. It's unthinkable here.

lightand · 24/05/2021 15:08

Years ago, I was a Primary School Governor.
Years ago, we had 33 policies, that we had to renew, 6 monthly, yearly or after a fixed number of years.
They were all available for any parent to access, in a file, which a parent could take home with them to read over a weekend for example.
Trouble was, not that many parents actually knew the files existed to be easily accessed. All a parent had to do was ask.
There was some overlap in some of the policies.

No idea if the same sort of thing exists nowadays. My guess is that does, all be that they may all be online??

I would ask for those files. As many as them as may be relevant in any way.

Booksaremylife · 24/05/2021 15:09

I'm queer often disagree with much of the trans chat on here, but I have to say I don't agree with telling kids that doctors get it 'wrong' sometimes when a baby's born.

SofiaMichelle · 24/05/2021 15:10

Fucking hell. What have I just watched???

I am done with this world.

DancesWithTortoises · 24/05/2021 15:12

Nobody is afraid. People don't want children lied to - why do you think it's ok?

If this video was actually any good for the age group its being shown to and like you know correct information in it then this thread wouldnt exist.

Do you actually have any idea what age groups require in education?
Because this video (and her others) seem aimed at 4 or 5 year olds (the teddy, the sing song voice, etc) but her words are definitely not for 4 or 5 year olds.
Btw she not done any degree about children or even ever worked with children. She has no children, I'm pretty sure shes never even sat next to a child. What does she know about making informative videos aimed at children?
But your ok letting this tripe be shown to children.
I actually despair at what adults let their kids see if this is your honest opinion on such utter shite.

Children being taught that stereotypes are what makes a man/woman. Children being encouraged to think that sex can change. Children's boundaries being eroded. Children being taught that doctors can't be trusted.

They can be taught that some people think that they can change sex - i.e., those people exist - but they don't need to be taught that the ideology around why they think that is actually true, in the same way that you can teach that people of different religions exist, for example, without presenting their beliefs as fact.

SofiaMichelle · 24/05/2021 15:20

What a divisive propagandist piece of shit that video, and the presenter, is.

It's clearly designed to confuse young children into questioning their gender, and that of their siblings, on the grounds that a doctor might have been wrong!

I'm totally against this sort of bull in schools anyway but, Christ, at least describe it in a way that a child might understand someone decided for themselves that they want to be a different gender, not that it's purely because a doctor made a fucking mistake!

I would be absolutely raging at the Head if that was my child's school.

Thank god that Labour are finished in the UK. We can hopefully see the back of this bullshit that they gave so much air time to before long.

SunflowersAndLavender · 24/05/2021 15:22

It seems age-appropriate and non-controversial.

The delivery style is age appropriate, the content is not. And it is controversial. It's brainwashing very young and impressionable children with inaccurate and untrue information.

Doctors DO NOT assign each new baby with a gender. They assign it with a biological sex. The doctors are not interested in what 'gender identity' a baby may or may not turn out to have, they are purely interested in biology. The genitalia, the reproductive organs. That's the information that will be on the child's medical records for life and will determine whether they will menstruate, whether they will have testicles and prostate glands, whether they will need smear tests, mammograms, midwifery services etc.

Once you get past this idea that doctors are assigning babies a gender identity and accept that they are assigning them a biological sex which is indisputable (apart from a tiny percentage of intersex babies) then there is really no need to be explaining to little children that doctors are 'wrongly' labelling newborn babies.

cottonwoolbrain · 24/05/2021 15:25

YADNBU OP.

Also I am not "cis gender" FFS - who on earth coined that phrase? Frankly, it sounds insulting. Do children really want to identify as "cis" - "sissy" ?

I am a woman - I am not a "cis"

I have no problem with people who decide they are transgender - so be it but it is not something to confuse small children (or teddy bears) with.

Have a full and frank discussion about it in senior school by all means but let small children stick to the 3 Rs, having fun and developing their social skills.

Actually feeling a bit angry about this.

HomeEdMom · 24/05/2021 15:27

Yet another reason for home educating. Seriously. I’m so glad my DC haven’t been (secretively) brainwashed with that unscientific crap.

Dustyboots · 24/05/2021 15:27

Can you complain to Ofsted?

FindTheTruth · 24/05/2021 15:29

Kids at primary school in Birmingham were coming home unable to sleep and waking up crying that they might be in the wrong body. (this was before the new DfE guidance). I

'm all for teaching tolerance and topics at the right age. but leading with this idealogy at age 4/5 is wrong. communication with children is extremely important as children take things literally. DfE guidance is clear and this video should not be shown in school

heathspeedwell · 24/05/2021 15:30

Has anyone kept a record of a Telegraph article that was discussed on FWR back around September 2020? I remember that paragraphs were quoted that very succinctly covered how the DoE was updating the way LGBT issues should be approached in schools.

It bluntly pointed out that schools can be given a negative Ofsted rating if they use materials that suggest children can be born in the wrong body. I think simply showing the article to your head teacher could be enough to encourage a swift change of policy. I really wish I had kept a link but I'm hoping someone more organised than me might have it.

mollythemeerkat · 24/05/2021 15:31

@SofiaMichelle - I`ve already commented on what tosh this video is. Just an aside to comment on your post. This is not just Labour Party stuff - this has been fully signed up to by the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats but dont want to derail so will leave it there.

Erikrie · 24/05/2021 15:33

Why are trans people "political"? This same argument was made about Gay Rights for (at least) two decades, until marriage equality.

The gender ideology movement and organisations such as this, pushing propaganda into school s absolutely is political.

The existence of LGBT people isn't political.

Again, what these organisations are pushing for is political.

Just as the existence of women isn't political.

Women as adult human females aren't political. However, as all groups of people, they may participate in political activities.

PS: Sex isn't observed. Read above to learn why.

I'm sorry your education let you down with false facts. That won't be happening to any more children.

334bu · 24/05/2021 15:34

The language and style of this video is obviously aimed at children much younger than the 10 year olds in Year 6 . The content is appalling. What is all this nonsense about doctor's assigning a gender identity to a baby and then sometimes getting it wrong? Why is the word gender used as if it meant sex in some bits?
As a teaching aid it is neither clear nor age appropriate. A 10 year old might know what a pronoun is but no 10 year old would watch that video and not cringe at the baby lilting voice and the teddy best friend.

SofiaMichelle · 24/05/2021 15:35

@mollythemeerkat

No, you're right, I shouldn't have singled Labour out - it's not just them - I just don't see the Greens and LDs as being as much of a risk at the moment, given their low support numbers.

NewlyGranny · 24/05/2021 15:36

A bit off-piste, perhaps, but that manky teddy with the floppy neck! 🙄

I'd love to have been a fly in the wall when Teddy lectured Y6 with those alphabet blocks... So low budget, and conflating sex and gender, too.

Videos like this will be in a museum soon enough, with explanations about the weird first quarter of the C21st movement, I don't doubt it.
