Scottish woman told would be charged for homophobic and transphobic tweets

On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

Brilliant, Paralithic!

@Mollyollydolly

I'm avoiding twitter for the next seven days. Just got a 7 day ban for violent conduct for tweeting to Scottish Police that they should be ashamed of their treatment of Marion Millar. That was it with a #WomenWont Weesht hashtag. Not bothered appealing it, what's the point. Meanwhile I must have reported 30 accounts this week calling women all sorts. Not one of them was upheld. Thank God for Mumsnet to keep me sane.
Reported another one of the "Shut the fuck up TERF" classic memes today. Apparently they "have received my report" but no sign they've actually done anything about it as yet.

Those of you who live in Scotland might like this tweet by lawyers Murray Blackburn Mackenzie

(I know there is a separate place for this kind of news but no one reads it because no one can find it)

Thanks Christina, I hadn’t seen that and what an important petition.

Regarding the fake David Paisley accounts, here's one of them:

twitter.com/DavidPaisley5

The account has the description:
"I am a coward
#whatwomenweesht
Woman - Noun - Adult Femaoe Human"

Whoever it was might want to learn how to spell. I've reported the accounts to Twitter days ago and as of yet they are still active.

MargaritaPie · 08/06/2021 02:06

btw does weesht in Scottish mean "wee shit"?

lakesummer · 08/06/2021 02:09

It means shh or quiet.

Is that an attempt at humour?

The language is called Scots. And no, it doesn’t. That makes absolutely no sense.

At risk of being your obligatory chippy Scot, I’m a bit fed up of the ill disguised sniggering and/or mocking misinterpreting going on here. Much like the women’s suffrage movement, the Scots language has a long and proud history which has clearly entirely bypassed the language police. In a thread where some people are defending the right to be upset and offended by the use of words, it’s a bit ironic to perform an act of colonialism by side swipes at those silly Jocks with their madey up words!

Minor point of order, but there you are.

Women need to stop reporting vile tweets on Twitter, Facebook etc to the corporations. Report them directly to the Police. We really need a concerted effort around this.

A friend of mine always responds to such enquiries with: Is your Google broken?

I've never understood people asking when they could search for a term and obtain a response more quickly. It is all too often associated with marked discourtesy towards others.

Chersfrozenface · 08/06/2021 08:15

'Whist' was standard Middle English, only later becoming dialect. There's an example in a Wycliffite Bible of 1382 "To whom þei answerdyn ‘whist: Be thou stille...'".

'Hush' sort of took over in standard English.

(Got to love having access to the full OED online with a library card.)

toffeebutterpopcorn · 08/06/2021 08:18

There are many words in the various Scots dialect which approximate ‘wee shit’...

DSs favourite utterances are ‘wheesht’ and ‘ach-away’.

Yes!

Love a bit of a language nerd out. Be thou still and ach, away with you Grin

ArabellaScott · 08/06/2021 08:48

Here's the fabulous Dictionary of the Scots Language on 'whisht'. You can also search it pre 1700.

ArabellaScott · 08/06/2021 08:50
  • although it looks like no incidences of 'wheesht' found pre 1700, in fact.

Well, that's not helpful at all, is it? I know people on both sides are angry right now, but there is some really childish, petulant behaviour going on.
