Scottish woman told would be charged for homophobic and transphobic tweets

twitter.com/millar_marion/status/1396039074239164423?s=19

On Wednesday April the 28th 2021 I received a call from a PC Laura Daley from police scotland requesting i attend an interview for homophobic and transphobic tweets under the milacious communications act.

I was asked to attend that coming Friday, she told me I had to attend East Kilbride police station so I could be then transported to Cathcart police station in a police car because I would have to go to a police station where there is holding cells, I would be then processed, questioned and then most likely charged.

I told her I would not be attending any interview on that day especially with it being a bank holiday weekend because my autistic twins needed me and I was scared I would be held all weekend.

To this she told me she would attend my house with social workers for my boys.

I contacted a solicitor straight away and he was unable to get PC Daley so for the first bank holiday in May I sent my disabled twins away for fear of this officer carrying out this threat.

This absolute nonsense has been hanging over my head for a month, I can barely sleep
or eat and I still don't know what the offending tweet is, my new interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 27th May, I will find out what I am supposed to have said at that point and if I will be indeed charged, again at another bank holiday, I just want to say, anyone who knows me, knows I am not homophobic or transphobic, I am a hard working mummy who would fight to the end for the safety and dignity of women and girls and for my vulnerable twinnies.

If we sit back and do nothing we will regret it for ever. For this reason I will never
Wheesht.

@EmbarrassingAdmissions

people had taken an image of my twinnies I shared the day before and sent emails with utterly vile messages.

From Marion M's thread - I don't often say this but I hope she's reported these messages to the Police.

That's horrible. They just cannot leave her alone, can they?
Coatandhat · 06/06/2021 11:45

@FannyCann In the Wimbledon Outlet section they are offering this keyring. No comment.

@Tibtom

Takes you back to the victorians - so progressive Hmm
It's high time this childish, carry-on type reaction to the word sex was consigned to the history books.
FannyCann · 06/06/2021 11:57

Oh dear. That's grim @Coatandhat Definitely hateful!

PronounssheRa · 06/06/2021 11:57

Right side of history my arse, her twins are still children and if I recall also have autism.

So glad she has raised so much and I hope she goes to the police with those messages, her children are covered by hate crime legislation.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 06/06/2021 12:00

t's high time this childish, carry-on type reaction to the word sex was consigned to the history books.

Especially as it was used to facilitate the confusion we're now needing to unpick because of the impact on women's human rights.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 06/06/2021 12:42

What are you on about. Target?? It was a chalk and pastels painting of an iconic photograph of a ribbon tied around a chain link fence outside the film studios in Glasgow where paisley films BBC soap opera called River City. Not a private residence. It's hardly doxxing. I've been into Marion's tweet history. She doesn't mince her words but there isn't anything that could warrant this. Anyone can look to verify for themselves.

AdHominemNonSequitur · 06/06/2021 12:46

That was in response to Blinda saying it was 6 tweets and the ribbon was tied outside somewhere in a threatening, 'we know where you live' sort of way.

The deleted tweets referred to relate to fundraising.

The deleted tweets referred to relate to fundraising. Or at least that's how I read that.

And as I said, none of the charges seem to relate to it. I'm speculating, but maybe they wanted to question her about it -'why did you do this? Have you done it before? Do you have plans to confront anyone? etc. And were satisfied there was no case to answer based on her answers. Maybe they warned her to stop doing this sort of thing and left it at that.

The point I was also making is that I don't think it has anything to do with the ribbon looking like a noose (it doesn't), as so many people have run with. As far as I know, it was Graham Linehan who first claimed that as fact, and how would he know? Can you find any corroboration from someone who would know, besides what Linehan wrote about the 'noose' angle?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 06/06/2021 14:52

@FannyCann

A PP mentioned the joy of Wimbledon and the associated colour scheme. Here's a link to the shop if you have excess £££ to spare (not many bargains to be had).

Rather a nice scarf I thought, and also liking the beanie for colder months. And bless them - the filter for M/F clothing offers:

Gender
Unisex
Men's
Ladies'

I'm trying to compose a suitably polite and elegant but witty letter of advice. Any suggestions?

There's a Suffragette tartan, available as a scarf & a wrap (wrap currently out of stock).

That's a gorgeous tartan.

But they haven't left it at that. They've charged her. Confused

Zeev · 06/06/2021 15:40

Maybe they warned her to stop doing this sort of thing and left it at that.

This sort of thing? What sort, exactly? What should she stop doing?

And they did not leave it at that.

I suspect you're right. There's a lot of speculation and jumping to conclusions based on very limited information. And there's a danger that people are being manipulated and maneuvered into certain positions by strangely selective leaking of evidence, and arguments being ascribed to one side by the other.

Let's just wait and see.

But Marion Millar is certainly entitled to a fair trial and a properly funded defence.

FannyCann · 06/06/2021 16:16

Lovely.

Would make a great kilt.

When I wrote

''And as I said, none of the charges seem to relate to it. I'm speculating, but maybe they wanted to question her about it -'why did you do this? Have you done it before? The 'it' refers to the tweet of the ribbon with the text that says a location. It could imply stalking or an intention to stalk. What she's been charged with doesn't seem to relate to any part of that tweet, but it does seem to be one of the six tweets that were investigated. So I'm speculating that whatever the police may have thought was worth questioning Marion about that tweet came to nothing. To me it stands to reason the charges, which relate to homophobia and transphobia, are based on the other tweets - and nobody knows what they say.

I've just emailed the company asking when it will be back in stock. I said I think that quite a few women might be interested Smile
toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/06/2021 16:35

Thank you - I know it’s summer but I do think it would make an exceptional addition to my autumn wardrobe...

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/06/2021 16:37

Me too!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 06/06/2021 16:57

Quite from the founder of the Ministry of Tartan

“I’m proud of all the scarves but I’m particularly fond of the suffragette scarf. If it hadn't been for the suffragettes, I wouldn't have been allowed to be in business” plus she’s from Northumberland so that’s a win win for me!

BilindaB · 06/06/2021 17:09

Er, women could run businesses before the suffragettes. And many did.
