On 13th May, Hailey Davidson won a women's mini tour event at Providence golf club Orlando, thus becoming the first transgender player to win a US pro golf tournament. Hailey was previously playing in the male category at college. It should be noted that the Providence course length was 6,300 yards, whereas the St Andrews course length for the Men's Open is 7,300 yards, and the Augusta National US Masters course is 7,475 yards.

There's a lot of congratulating going on on the Internet. Including this:

Of course that transperson was not a transman... nope!

Women should refuse to play with him. This is the end of women's sport.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 20/05/2021 16:26

I really must try and find that brilliant twitter thread on why TW in sport are always photographed alone because the moment they’re next to a bio woman....

ANiceCupOfCoffee · 20/05/2021 16:29

Do you know, I’m starting to think the more transwomen win the better. More people might start to wake up then. The sooner to end this madness.

Helleofabore · 20/05/2021 16:32

Sunlight! I hope this gets the back lash it deserves.

Exactly - especially the photo up thread
TedImgoingmad · 20/05/2021 16:48

Women just need to try harder. Just grow your arms, grow your legs, increase your muscle density, increase your lung capacity, change your skeletal make- up so that your hips are narrower, get rid of your boobs. A few simple tweaks, and you'll have a swing like Hailey's .

I am thinking the same. Let them all take over and then people may open their eyes.

Tennis, specifically, is where they need to win. It will stop some men mid wank in their tracks and they might do something about it.

Ooh yes. That would start to make a difference!

nevertrustaherdofcows · 20/05/2021 18:01

Transwomen in most women's sports more or less have the top rung reserved for them, but they need a human ladder of females to climb to it.

nevertrustaherdofcows · 20/05/2021 18:02

It is an awful choice if you are one of those females. Play along, to stay in the sport you love and have sacrificed so much for, without ever being able to take your true place, or turn aside and lose it all

andyoldlabour · 20/05/2021 18:11

I should also point out, that Hailey played in the 2015 men's US Open qualifying, only just missing out on playing in the Open itself.
I think the association has to stop this immediately, or maybe the players have to go on strike.

turn aside and lose it all

And if you choose not to compete against men then that's simply evidence either of your transphobia or that you weren't really bothered to start with.

andyoldlabour · 20/05/2021 18:50

The players are all sponsored by club and clothing manufacturers, the tournaments sponsored by other large companies. I cannot see them being impressed that only one player turns up for a tournament, or for that matter the media outlets.
The sports governing body cannot ban all the players if they decide not to play, because if that happened, the sport would be dead in the water.
I don't think the spectators would like to see this.

No upper body strength advantage at all. No. Nothing to see here........

OldCrone · 20/05/2021 21:12

From the Florida Today article linked in the OP.

Davidson said she's lost 9 mph in swing speed and hits it roughly 30 yards shorter off the tee since beginning hormonal treatments. Her doctor required that she lose weight before surgery, roughly 60 pounds, and Davidson reached that goal and then just kept going, losing 90 pounds in the last 300 days. She stayed away from any weight training in the process, doing whatever she could to trim muscle mass.

"Any advantage that existed is fully gone," she insisted.

Why do these males who take drugs to reduce their performance think that this gives them the right to compete in the women's category?

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2021 21:15

That's just bloody insulting to the women players who've trained hard for this event.

CharlieParley · 20/05/2021 21:27

Any advantage that existed is fully gone," she insisted.

Sigh. If only there was a decent journo writing this.

If muscle mass reduces, that may result in a reduction in strength But it does not change how the muscle fibre behaves. It recovers faster in male athletes. Lung function and all of the other things that distinguish female and male anatomy.

A decent sports journo would know that. And this information could have been included in a fairly neutral, but representing the opposing side manner. But no. Let's applaud another win for the male sex. They didn't want women to play golf anyway, so there'll be enough men celebrating this win.

iguanadonna · 20/05/2021 21:41

Such a few years that women got to play golf on equal terms. Guess that's over.

PaterPower · 20/05/2021 21:44

“Davidson said she's lost 9 mph in swing speed and hits it roughly 30 yards shorter off the tee since beginning hormonal treatments”

Even if we are to accept Davidson’s word at face value for that performance drop, what’s missing are the original stats to provide a comparison.

I couldn’t find anything online from 2015 when Davidson was still playing men’s golf. But the top LPGA golfer (purely for longest average drive in 2021) would rank alongside the 111th PGA player. And that’s 111th with an awful lot of tied places above.

NotBadConsidering · 20/05/2021 21:49

The name of Perrine Delacour has been added to the list here:

Always name the women who have lost out, not just the males who have taken it from them.

Babdoc · 20/05/2021 22:06

And how did this cheat manage to shrink their shoulder girdle and arm length? Oh that’s right - they didn’t. So still a male torso then.
Presumably also with a brass neck, if they’re comfortable with blatantly cheating women out of their rightful trophies.
