andyoldlabour · 20/05/2021 16:05

On 13th May, Hailey Davidson won a women's mini tour event at Providence golf club Orlando, thus becoming the first transgender player to win a US pro golf tournament. Hailey was previously playing in the male category at college. It should be noted that the Providence course length was 6,300 yards, whereas the St Andrews course length for the Men's Open is 7,300 yards, and the Augusta National US Masters course is 7,475 yards.

So accurate!

Another spot for women in sports taken away!

And what’s this about the LPGA?! Are you kidding me? So pretty soon there will be no women’s sports at all.

I can’t wait for everyone to reach peak trans and we can shut this nonsense down! Right now only a few people are there, but it’s getting more and more ridiculous and more
People are starting to see thru this BS.

NiceGerbil · 22/05/2021 04:24

Yay! Wow!

What an inspirational achievement!

I really hope that the women who were beaten take this as an opportunity to learn!!!

Women can do anything!!! They will be inspired and they harder which is a real positive for them!!!!

Yayyyyy!

(Btw women speaking out are generally retired. Refuse to compete/ make a fuss. Out. This is what they have worked for day in day out all their lives. They are in a tricky position).

At the moment it is just the occassional man entering these competitions so everyone can say "oh look, an oppressed individual fighting a loan fight against oppression". It might take the whole field being male before people really begin to see the true nonsense of this and the destruction of women's sports. Of course by then it will be harder to roll back from.

It was interesting to look through this piece.

Stories about so-called dominant trans athletes are cherry-picked for use in moral panic narratives by far-right outlets

Both trans and intersex athletes are often accused of unfair competitive advantages that supposedly threaten to eliminate women’s athletics as such, and the notion that these competitors should compete in some sort of separate category goes back decades.

“Women’s sports will [be] taken over by a giant race of surgically created women” reads a letter published in the September 5, 1976, edition of The New York Times, later adding, “Perhaps there should now be three categories for athletic competitions—female, male and others.”

I'm a little disappointed in the writer's lack of understanding of the state of women's prize money at the time and the recency of Title IX and sports in universities etc.

@Theeyeballsinthesky

I really must try and find that brilliant twitter thread on why TW in sport are always photographed alone because the moment they’re next to a bio woman....
Yes, it's always so obvious if they're next to a woman.

It doesn't surprise me that Parker Molloy (Parker Marie Molloy is an American writer, blogger, and transgender rights activist) because they are fully signed up to this idology. Apparently Parker works for Media Matters for America, "a progressive watchdog organization dedicated to monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the US media.", because everyone who wishes to see sports categorised by sex, is hateful, far right and bigotedConfused

But we can’t wait for the tennis because LGPA HAS big prize money!

Looking at 2019 (pre covid for a full years stay):
Jin Young Ko made $2.7m
Sie Young Kim made $2.7m
Even the woman at place 100, Maria stackhouse, made $120k in 2019.

Anneka Storenzam made $22m in her career.

(I’m presuming this is just prize money and not even sponsorship deals, endorsements etc)

This is a big financial hit for these players - however ‘nice’ they want to be, they are losing out.

Paralithic · 22/05/2021 14:25

The ANA Inspiration (first LPGA tournament of the year) had a first place purse of $465,000.

But, there are a lot of players on the LPGA Tour, many of whom will never win any money and can’t afford to do it for more than a year.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 22/05/2021 14:59

But we can’t wait for the tennis because LGPA HAS big prize money!

It feels like wrongly acquired entitlement possession is nine-tenths and precedent-setting.

It would be so much harder to make sports events single sex again and to re-win appropriate sponsorship for women if events are ceded.

It's why I've hardened over 'fun' items like Park Runs - kindness and fun are being interpreted as a lack of objection and setting precedents that are then used to change laws and the consequences of those aren't rippling out, they're building into a monster and destructive force for sports.

No.

This is why transgender athletes are always pictured alone. They literally stand head and shoulders above the other competitors.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/05/2021 16:10

Seriously I’d be raging if I’d trained all my life to stand in a lower podium to a person who couldn’t make it in their own sport.

I couldn’t bring myself to smile.

I don’t like cheating.

SaucyHorse · 22/05/2021 19:28

Another pathetic cheat.

HildegardNightingale · 23/05/2021 16:32

I hate cheats.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/05/2021 17:09

Congratulations Perrine Delacour. Flowers ,🥇🏆⛳

Delphinium20 · 23/05/2021 18:09

@BlackeyedSusan

Congratulations Perrine Delacour. Flowers ,🥇🏆⛳
I agree that congratulations are in order for Perrine Delacour!

Just an add...I know Perrine probably doesn't want to be a symbol of a political battle...she likely just wants to play the game of golf and live her life to the fullest. I would feel awful if she got hate similar to the women who have spoken out about their lost medals.

This double edged sword - be quiet and suck up an unfair loss or be vilified. This should not be the choice.

If I can do one thing, I'm going to simply send positive messages the way of women athletes who have lost to men-congratulations on her athleticism.

My DD2 is like her dad, both fans of golf and shy of politics, so I find it quite egregious that all the second place women need to be thrown into this debate they never asked for. TRAs have a lot to answer for.

KaleSlayer · 23/05/2021 18:16

An absolute disgrace.
