There's a piece in the Times today ... parents not happy at the content of a newsletter produced by the 6th formers

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/nonsuch-high-school-sixth-formers-told-girls-11-how-to-bind-breasts-k7slvrbkr?shareToken=a84af706d3b638e2ea3d2d53ea04e29d

@Shizuku where do you get off assuming my political identity? How do you know whether I - or any other of the posters on this board - identify as conservative or even Marxist? That's literal violence. Educate yourself. Etc etc.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/05/2021 11:11

And always question why someone cheers on things like this.

2fallsagain · 09/05/2021 11:12

@Shizuku binding is never safe.

And minimising safeguarding concerns by accusing people of being prudish or conservative is a massive red flag. What's your agenda here? Why are you supporting the grooming of children.

And the sixth former here has also been groomed. This newsletter is the think end of the wedge.

FightingtheFoo · 09/05/2021 11:12

Btw @shizuku, since you apparently know how to breast bind safely, could you also let me know the best way to vomit after meals and self-harm safely? I'd be SO grateful.

FightingtheFoo · 09/05/2021 11:14

And maybe do a cordless bungee jump safely? I hear a bunch of conservative prudes are saying it's dangerous to bungee jump without a cord but what do they know? Bigots.

HecatesCatsInFancyHats · 09/05/2021 11:15

years ago there was this character called Mary Whitehouse who was exactly the same

This is exactly what I'm talking about in my earlier post. Adult strangers telling teenage girls that the only reason grown ups would complain that they're being directed to sites about breast binding, chemsex and fisting is because they're latter day Mary Whitehouses. This is plain sight you know that right? Breaking down boundaries.

In my sisters year there was a trend for girls to cut their wrists - nothing major but it was a thing to take the sharp but out of a pencil sharpener and cut away

I await the issue where it explains how to set your hair alight and with kinks to special sites that show the best gate to adopt for maximum fabulousness...

This ^^

There are experienced Safeguarding practitioners posting on this thread and this is a parenting website.
All adults have responsibility to Safeguard children.

And what about the psychological effects on a trans boy of not letting him bind?

Trans people exist - we always have, and we always will. You're just going to have to deal with it.

2fallsagain · 09/05/2021 11:33

A girl who wants to bind her breasts and is suffering from gender dysphoria needs support.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 09/05/2021 11:33

There is no quick fix to such issues. You certainly don’t do it my physical discomfort/harm.

Soontobe60 · 09/05/2021 11:35

Don't worry about the conservatives on sites like this. It's nothing new - years ago there was this character called Mary Whitehouse who was exactly the same - look her up, she's hilarious. So, every generation has to deal with prudish conservatives running around with their hair on fire because someone told a teenager how to have sex safely. Funny thing is how they get so exercised about binding being dangerous and then completely explode if someone mentions how to do it safely. Ignore them, and even more importantly, never become them

So you're more than happy for 11 year old girls to be directed to sites that promote dangerous sexual practices, when they are far to young to even be considering having sex full stop. And don’t even think about replying that 11 year old girls are having sex left right and centre, because thats not true. An 11 year old girl may be very petite - some at my school are around 4’ 6’ and around a size 4. If a male (or indeed another female) attempted to ‘fist’ them it would cause told damage. But you're OK with them being exposed to such a dangerous practice? You think it’s only ‘conservative’ women of a certain age that think this is wrong?
That speaks volumes about you - and not in a good way.

persistentwoman · 09/05/2021 11:35

Why is breast ironing a reportable safeguarding issue yet breast binding isn't? What's the difference?

@Shizuku
Lots of minorities exist but it doesn't mean schools need to distribute newsletters detailing a dangerous practice.

I mean why doesn't the next newsletter inform students on how to iron their breasts in accordance with the practices in some parts of Africa? That's considered gender-based violence according to many organisations. It's not too different.

R0wantrees · 09/05/2021 11:37

And what about the psychological effects on a trans boy of not letting him bind?

Children who are deeply distressed by changes in their body and considering such drastic actions need support from qualified adults, not other teenagers or online anonymous TRA adults.

And what about the psychological effects of not letting a teenager starve themselves to death? Anorexics exist - they always have, and always will.

If a female is so dysphoric that they want to hide their body in such a harmful manner, it’s not a newsletter from school they need, it’s a psychiatrist.

I'm guessing that this doesn't reach the bar of non acceptability then. I shudder to think what will, if anything.

In fact putting out frightening information like that to young girls is almost certainly going to make them turn against sexuality, and possibly groom the next generation of 'transmen' wishing to bind

I think psychological aspect of a trans boy attending an all girls school would be far worse. And yet, they are. Maybe shiz could offer advice on how to get trans boys admitted to Wally boys?
