Does Bunbury have an orchestra?

(Also, can just anyone start a Bunbury thread or do you have to be a Weighty Feminist? Apologies if so, I will retreat tugging my forelock.)

Someone mentioned the cornet. Can I bagsy the kettle drum?

I think I'm a bit too tired to even play the vuvuzela right now

can I turn the music pages for them as needs it?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 08/05/2021 23:49

Maybe you can sub in for the performance of John Cage's Silence

SelfPortraitWithEels · 09/05/2021 08:52

I think you have all proved your prowess on the vuvuzuela/wind section. Even those of you who keep fading in and out... Star

Then, of course, there is the serpent. Singularly appropriate for the Nest Of Vipers

Is anybody competent on this (new to me) instrument, the bayan?

ArabellaScott · 09/05/2021 17:44

Sorry to rock up late.

I brought everything I could find in the shed.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/05/2021 17:55

Embarrassing that bayan player is competent. Vivaldi has too many notes.

That's why being a viola player is a good option as you get to avoid all that nonsense.

ArabellaScott · 09/05/2021 17:57

Finishing up with an Aztec Death Whistle, seeing as it's Sunday.

ArabellaScott · 09/05/2021 17:59

Here's a tutorial of how to make your own Death Whistle if you want to join in with the kids!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/05/2021 18:01

I like the Aztec death whistle. An orchestra of those would be quite something.

Like when my son was in year 3 and the school provided them all with clarinets to play and then there was an assembly.

MsAwesomeDragon · 09/05/2021 18:01

I'd like to change my instrument to the Northumbrian pipes please.
A beautiful instrument, that people have rarely heard of.

Sometimes I think teachers are very good at organising passive aggressive school concerts.

[/quote] :) I was impressed by the bayan player's skills (one of my grandfathers and an uncle were keen accordion players). I wondered if everyone but me knew about the bayan.

I’m learning the piano and am happy to join provided that everything is played sepulchrally slowly and you don’t mind a baseline of muttered “ffs”

I give you the Oomphalapompatronium

There’s also instructions on how to make your own death whistle

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 09/05/2021 22:37

Death whistles? Just the name puts me in the cold thrall of thinking of that story, Whistle and I'll Come to You - I've no doubt it produces a haunting and lovely sound but I shall save those for another day.

MrsWooster - there may have been a fair amount of similar muttering when DH unilaterally decided that the lockdown would be an excellent opportunity for him to learn the ukulele.

Arabella - thank you for Fumi Watanabe's Tequila - she would be such a wonderful member of any orchestra.

And, Odense - whose quirky heart could remain unmelted watching the Oomphalapompatronium? All that wood dust and the honesty of all those plastic joints - it's heartwarming to see it.

It's not really haunting and lovely, Embarrassing, it sounds like someone screaming in terror!

The Oomphalapompatronium was much more cheering.

OwBist · 10/05/2021 13:27

I can see it now.... Lauren Bacall turns to Humphrey Bogart, says "you do know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put this skull thing in your mouth and it screams!" Smile

BlackeyedSusan · 10/05/2021 16:25

I can offer two instruments....

Hands to make an owl Sound or hands and piece of grass

My orchestral playing is a bit rusty at best, but I have a plastic squeeker removed from a dog toy (as it was being destroyed by DDog, I'm a brave one!). I think I'll play that. I know quite a few accomplished musicians so I recon I can pull off looking the part and I'll try to learn a phew musician-y phrases. Actually, I'm starting to think that there should be nothing stopping me and my squeeker from becoming the orchestra leader (bloody violinists and their cis-musician privilege)

By God, with enough grim determination, there will be!

Mahler won't know what hit him!

Maybe the Symphony of a Thousand.......triangles? Heck, why not! Grin

I want to take part in Mr Tambourine Man accompanied by a massed orchestra of tambourines.

Look, we all wanted to be on tambourine and got lumbered with triangle instead, and not even the big triangle, the little weedy one, right? So there ought to be plenty of us to join in.

(When my daughter was posted to Afghanistan she taught herself to play the ukulele before she left, because it was less fragile than the guitar.)
