Does Bunbury have an orchestra?

(Also, can just anyone start a Bunbury thread or do you have to be a Weighty Feminist? Apologies if so, I will retreat tugging my forelock.)

Someone mentioned the cornet. Can I bagsy the kettle drum?

@R0wantrees

I'm going to spend the afternoon practising persed lips as my first steps.
I had a try put on some gigantic brass instrument when I was at school but the teacher decided I'd never be able to get the lips right.
TinselAngel · 07/05/2021 15:48

Try out

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 07/05/2021 15:55

Can I play the guiro?

Igneococcus · 07/05/2021 15:57

Orchestras need an audience as well. I'm very good at being an audience member, never clap in intermissions, don't fidget, applaud enthusiastically when it is warranted, but I absolutely hate opera, otherwise I happily sit through even the most difficult new pieces of music.

zzizzer · 07/05/2021 15:57

Could you lot watch yourself with those cymbals over there? There are lots of penises crawling the boards today and you know how sensitive they are to loud noises.

PopperUppleton · 07/05/2021 15:59

I'm not sure I can play an instrument but I'm much in need of a safe space to sit and cry today, can I sit here?

Kotatsu · 07/05/2021 15:59

I played the flute as a kid, but if we're going for percussion, I'm bagseying the washboard and thimbles. Nice and lady-like too :)

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 07/05/2021 16:05

I always wanted to play the drums. I reckon there's enough in a good orchestra for all us wannabes to have one each.

R0wantrees · 07/05/2021 16:05

PopperUppleton Flowers

It will be a while before we start playing.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 07/05/2021 16:07

Popper, sit and have a chat, or just enjoy the company. It'll be a while before they sort all the instruments out.

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/05/2021 16:10

I think I'd like to try the harp, even if it does seem frighteningly complex.

Sit by me, just be with us, no need to do. You can have a go at folding the paper round my comb if your hands want to be busy.
FlibbertyGiblets · 07/05/2021 16:15

Surely the harp is all about the player making elegant hand swoops, up up up and then down, etc. Not complex at all, no I am quite sure of that.
[grimace at my ignorance here]

It's got pedals as well as strings....
FlibbertyGiblets · 07/05/2021 16:21

WHAT?!

You can sit and marvel at my glockenspieling skills, and I will cue you in to blow your nose at theatrical intervals Flowers
Kotatsu · 07/05/2021 16:23

I can only echo Flibberty here WHAT! A harp has pedals!

I actually know a harpist, very elegant lady, exactly, does weddings (and funerals), but our kids are in the same class. I will now have to ask her next time I see her.

I can play the saxophone, but if we’re a percussion ensemble I’ve always wanted to try the hang drum...

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/05/2021 16:24

@FlibbertyGiblets I know! I like a challenge though.

Maybe we could get Evelyn Glennie to come along and give a percussion workshop for all the keen glockenspielers?

Igneococcus · 07/05/2021 16:30

Evelyn Glennie playing James MacMillan's Veni Veni Emanuel with the NZ symphony orchestra was the first concert dp and I ever went to together.
