Does Bunbury have an orchestra?

(Also, can just anyone start a Bunbury thread or do you have to be a Weighty Feminist? Apologies if so, I will retreat tugging my forelock.)

Someone mentioned the cornet. Can I bagsy the kettle drum?

Longtime lurker de-lurking to suggest something in the strings section. The orchestra is a little percussion-heavy. Or maybe we could copy this high school choir (robes optional) - no musical ability required...

@Kotatsu

I can only echo Flibberty here WHAT! A harp has pedals!

I actually know a harpist, very elegant lady, exactly, does weddings (and funerals), but our kids are in the same class. I will now have to ask her next time I see her.

Concert harps have pedals. Then there are lever harps, which are smaller - they can be floor harps or lap harps.

I did once ask in a specialist shop about learning the harp. They asked whether I played the piano. I said that as a child I'd got as far as starting two hands and given up. Sharp intake of breath and advice to try something simpler.

I'd offer to play the spoons but they'd just make me hungry.

Thelnebriati · 07/05/2021 16:50

I think I could manage the triangle.

Faffertea · 07/05/2021 16:55

I used to play the clarinet but I’ve always wanted to be a pianist. If I identify as a pianist that’s good enough right?

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 07/05/2021 16:59

I'm teaching myself the flute if you're in need of some discordant squeaking alternated with airy whispers?

TheWeeDonkey · 07/05/2021 16:59

I miss Bunbury even though I mainly lurked there it was a blessed escape. Unfortunately my ambition overreaches my musical ability too far for me to join the orchestra unless we can have a triangle section.

zzizzer · 07/05/2021 17:03

Okay, we can have more triangles. I've got some more in the back, I'll go have a look.

TinselAngel · 07/05/2021 17:05

Do harps have pedals like a bike or pedals like a piano?

Chersfrozenface · 07/05/2021 17:07

I always got the triangle at primary school. I was desperate to play the tambourine, but it was inevitably the cute girls who got those. And were stood in the front row waggling them, whilst I and the other nerds and misfits dinged away at the back.

Bitter? Me?

Well I was banned from playing the violin but I could identify as a violinist.

As a wise man once said "I can play all the right notes, just not in the right order" 😉

Kotatsu · 07/05/2021 17:10

Oh I didn't disbelieve you at all, just wanted to hear the gory details from someone who plays the harp :D

How about a version of the plane with which the hens escaped in Chicken Run?

With glissando harp soundtrack.

MelissaVonStressel · 07/05/2021 17:14

Will there be dancing? Because I can only do tambourine like Bez Grin I was not popular at Monkey Music, and not just because I didn't know the difference between photos of violins, violas, cellos and double basses which had been resized so they were all the same size.

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/05/2021 17:14

@TinselAngel

Do harps have pedals like a bike or pedals like a piano?

Oh how I wish it could be pedals like a bike! That would become my preferred form of transport 😀

WarriorN · 07/05/2021 17:22

Millie Jackson Phuck You Symphony would be a good warm up sesh.

ArabellaScott · 07/05/2021 17:23

I'm looking forward to the triangle solos Grin
Magpiecomplex · 07/05/2021 17:35

Gatecrashing the thread to offer you my lever harp-playing son... Unfortunately I was a percussionist in my youth, and you already have plenty of those!

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/05/2021 17:40

I'll just clap along, more or less in time.

MsAwesomeDragon · 07/05/2021 17:41

I play the flute, but really fancy the oboe (I like that it sounds like a duck!). Orchestras are always looking for oboists, so it shouldn't matter that I can't actually play, right?
