Does Bunbury have an orchestra?

SelfPortraitWithEels · 07/05/2021 14:41

(Also, can just anyone start a Bunbury thread or do you have to be a Weighty Feminist? Apologies if so, I will retreat tugging my forelock.)

Someone mentioned the cornet. Can I bagsy the kettle drum?

OP posts:
ifIwerenotanandroid · 12/05/2021 00:16

I composed a reply to that thread last night, hit 'post message' & nothing. I then discovered MN had hidden it while they had a look at it. This morning it said OP has asked for it to be removed.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/05/2021 09:32

Good morning.

It's Monday, I'm tired, and I'm playing the sad trombone. Not a euphemism.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/05/2021 13:12

Does anyone know if @littlbrowndog is ok? Haven't seen her around for a couple of weeks.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/05/2021 13:30

No idea Shock

CardinalLolzy · 17/05/2021 13:39

There's a few I've not seen for a while - some who aren't usually on here all the time but are appreciated when they are!
Michelle, Floral, R0, Dat...

JustcameoutGC · 17/05/2021 17:32

Hi Bunburiers. Just wanted to do a quick temperature check. Lots seems to have happened of late, some very welcome, some less so. Where are you all on the spectrum of

We are all doomed, there is no point fighting, too many lined up against us

To

The Adults are coming, the tide is turning, common sense will prevail, time to dig in and fight.

I am heading towards the latter, but I am a born optimist.

MrsWooster · 17/05/2021 17:38

If DOOMED is 1, and ADULTS AHOY is 10..?
6.5

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/05/2021 18:06

I'll give it 7.

persistentwoman · 17/05/2021 18:12

JustcameoutGC
A cautious 6. The weekend's papers highlighted for me just how much has shifted in recent months. The responses from 'ordinary' people (as opposed to GC feminists) to the head of the EHRC's interview, numerous evidenced articles pointing out that the population are not voting for parties who support identity politics. It's the awareness of ordinary people to the extreme batshit demands and the silencing of women that gives me hope.

persistentwoman · 17/05/2021 18:17

I am a bit concerned about some of our sisters. The recent torrent of deliberately goady threads generated numerous deletions - which was no doubt the aim. I hope that women are just taking a well earned break from having to confront such hostile posting and will be back soon with their insight and humour. Flowers

AnyOldPrion · 17/05/2021 18:50

I stopped posting for a while after a deletion. Guessing others might have done similar. There were so many goady threads that for me it was close to unbearable. Hopefully others are taking a break too.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/05/2021 19:00

I hope they are just taking a break too, @persistentwoman.

And I give it a 7.5 The adults are coming Smile

PopperUppleton · 17/05/2021 19:20

I'm glad I've read to the end of this thread, there are a few people I'm missing and I hope they haven't been chucked out. And I'm off to play the piano, inspired by the music, or should I say 'music' Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 17/05/2021 19:28

Bugger. Hope no significant deletions.

About a five for me. Bit of a pessimist...

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 17/05/2021 19:29

The Adults are coming, the tide is turning, common sense will prevail, time to dig in and fight.

I'm: Belatedly, some adults are waking up and taking notice of what has happened while they've kept their backs intentionally turned. They've taken the temperature and realised that this is more than a passing phase and may well have very real world consequences in the form of totalitarianism and profoundly dangerous sociocultural shifts .

Adults like this, who are, unfortunately, the ones with power, are easily distractible. They might also be shocked to discover how far the capture of organisations has gone and the quagmire that they've facilitated. They might decide that they can escape any consequences so will be happy not to fight because it's not on behalf of a sympathetic or attractive group.

At my most optimistic, I'm a 4.

But - I have form for protecting myself against disappointment by never expecting people to behave well if it's easier for them to protect the status quo or sacrifice others at no cost to themselves.*

*NB: I may have in mind some recent judges who don't seem to have understood the ramifications of some issues nor the plausibility of their proposed remedies.

Pessimists don't get nasty surprises so often.... But I hope you're wrong!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 17/05/2021 20:46

I haven't seen some of the more prolific recent goadsters around either, so maybe they are taking a break too?
Also if doomed is 1 and not-doomed is 10 - I am fluctuating.
Like the snowshoe hare and the lynx.

JustcameoutGC · 17/05/2021 21:31

@EndoplasmicReticulum I was just reading my daughter a book about the boreal forest, the snowshoe hare and the lynx.

So we seem to be averaging at about a 6. I will take that.

Having the Times on board I think is v important (I hate how much I am reading the Daily Mail right now)

The HoL is doing a decent job. Now we need a few prominent MPs to speak up, on both sides of the house.

The new leadership at the EHRC is so very welcome. Now, they need to sack off Stonewall.

The judiciary is like a see saw, but maybe getting there. Someone needs to revise the bench book.

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 21:43
  1. I just was reading a thread from 2017 where I said I thought everyone was about to join us on the naughty step.

And they didn't.

So I'm remaining cautiously, patiently optimistic.

ArabellaScott · 17/05/2021 21:44

Wait, I don't know if 2017 is right. Memory shot. Some years ago, maybe two. Anyway, as you were.

Soooo, todays news -
After an independent review Essex University apologises for cancelling GC feminist speakers, and calls for the University relationship with Stonewall to be examined (the report & apologies are blistering)

A labour MP calls for sex to be accurately recorded for offenders, in particular for offences rarely committed by women

But
A cervical cancer charity calls for language to be made more inclusive for Transmen (ignoring the needs of other groups such as those who don't speak English as a 1st language or those with literacy difficulties).

I think it has been reasonably sunny today.

GAHgamel · 18/05/2021 15:54

I'm a 4, because I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. That said, I particularly enjoyed the line from the Essex University report that says "In my view the policy states the law as Stonewall would prefer it to be, rather than the law as it is."

DaisiesandButtercups · 18/05/2021 16:01

I don’t know if I am imagining it but the traffic here (FWR) seems much reduced lately. I am missing some of those names you’ve mentioned too.

I am not too hopeful. There is a long way to go yet.

I have the impression of more reasoned voices appearing in various places online but in the real world who knows. I think most people are still in the dark or consider it a niche topic that will not impact them.

My teenage children are really suffering from it in education and social media, they can’t speak openly about it. One of the older one’s classmates has drawn up a plan to educate their teachers on these matters and to further push the ideology, sorry I mean be more inclusive.

I had a chat with my children about Maoism and suggested they do what they can to avoid any struggle sessions.

They just know that questions will soon be asked about why they are not displaying pronouns in all the expected places.

NecessaryScene1 · 18/05/2021 16:08

I'm at an 8, having been in this for four years. But it's certainly going to get worse before it gets better, as things always do. People will double down, and some people are congenitally incapable of seeing which way the tide is flowing.

There will undoubtedly one final last pillock left exposed that everyone remembers as the thing that marked the end of the era.

I watched a video with Douglas Murray the other day - trailing an upcoming "The Woke Reformation" documentary. He was in an extremely upbeat mood.

He said, "I have fought so many unwinnable battles in my life, I know an unwinnable battle when I see one. This is a winnable battle."

Relevant segment here - it's on Woke generally, but everything they're saying applies to the GC segment:
