Article in daily fail (sorry)

4 year old female twin says she is a boy (like her twin brother) and expresses interest in firefighters & police officers & doesn't like pigtails.

So the parents are transitioning their 4 year old and saying they have grown up conversations about gender with them.

Sigh.

clearly have some quite traditional gendered expectations.

The pictures of the child before the parents' grand declaration show they are absolutely rigid genderists - pink blankets, pigtails, 'pretty' shoes, pink beret, pinafore dresses on a baby, pink pinafores later, pink everything else. I don't blame her for wanting to be like her brother. I hated all that nonsense too.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 05/05/2021 18:34

"Stormy's father says his son 'hated pigtails and dresses' or even 'pretty shoes', and at the age of two-and-a-half told his family: 'I'm not a girl, I think I'm a boy'."

Does Stormy's father think little girls are born wanting to wrar pretty shoes and dresses or to have their hair in pigtai!s? This is ludicrous. Accepting this child as they are means dressing them in comfy clothes that allow them to be active, being supportive when they say they want to be a firefighter or police officer - and not implying that they have to be a boy to be able to do any of this.

quiteathome · 05/05/2021 18:40

The statistics in the article are interesting. From 97 referrals in 2009 to 2,728 in 2019.

I am wondering what the hell is going on.

It would make a lot of sense that a child would want to be exactly like their twin, or an older brother or sister. It will be interesting to find out if the child is still trans once school and outside children are more of an influence.

Isn’t Storme a girls name? Who kicked off the stonewall riots?

Fernlake · 05/05/2021 18:47

If I've learned one thing from the women posting on here, it's that in terms of child development, four-year-olds rely on gender stereotypes to determine who they think are boys or girls.

The idea that this makes them into some kind of gender dysphoric person who needs diagnosis and treatment is preposterous.

There can't be a parent alive who hasn't had a child want to 'be' something that they find appealing, or covet, or aspire to.

It is unremarkable as it's possible to be.

Yes, I was wondering about that

"Stormy's father says his son 'hated pigtails and dresses' or even 'pretty shoes', and at the age of two-and-a-half told his family: 'I'm not a girl, I think I'm a boy'."

And yet, there are people who are actually wanting to take that literally. It's unbelievable.

I think that was Stormé?

I don’t think the parents have been that inventive with the “new” name.

thepuredrop · 05/05/2021 19:15

@andyoldlabour

Classic case of narcissistic parents using their child as an attention seeking object.
It really seems to be that trans kids are the new “I have a gifted child”.

The family obviously operate on the assumption that girls wear pretty clothes, have their hair in pigtails, don’t play with object-oriented toys, and boys are the opposite. Then their daughter said she was a boy. They asked her “are you a girl or a boy?”
She is following their lead! The options they have presented to her are be a pretty girl, or a boy.
She’s not rejecting being female, she’s rejecting their parenting. She’s not expressing her gender identity, she’s expressing her displeasure with their imposed gender stereotypes.

Trappedonanisland · 05/05/2021 19:19

These people must have serious issues themselves . This is child abuse . That poor wee girl.

CoffeeWithCheese · 05/05/2021 19:56

At a similar age DD2 announced she wanted to be a boy when she grew up and we had a gentle chat about how girls grow up to become women and boys grow up to become men - but that mummy had never bought into this nonsense of girls toys and boys toys and girls were flipping awesome. Two days later she wanted to be Robodog from the Paw Patrol as a future career plan instead.

She was very much a "not-girlie" girl until about junior school age (I suspect now it's desperation to fit in that's kicked in) - loved dinosaurs (on the basis they could eat unicorns so were cooler), robots, blue, super heroes, didn't give a shit if stuff came from the girls or boys aisles if she liked it (she still doesn't on that one). At the moment now she's very pink and princess obsessed as what she's going through - she's figuring it all out naturally as she grows up which is bloody normal. Her sister was really pink and unicorn obsessed and now you can't get her out of a hoodie (or pyjamas as an even better option).

If I'd been a different person I would have jumped to assume DD was trans and started asking her questions about if she was a girl or a boy and she is the sort of child who would have been desperate to please and so easily led in her answers.

This guy's a grifter, in my opinion. Probably looking for a Jazz Jennings type deal. They won't be the first parents who have exploited (or attempted to exploit) their children via reality TV/social media, and they won't be the last. I hope they get no attention whatsoever.

Defaultname · 05/05/2021 20:01
"My two year old hates dresses and refuses to wear clips in her hair. It's totally normal. It doesn't mean she's a boy." seems a popular comment; 9952 Likes and 65 Dislikes. Odd there are so many dislikes...

I think it's one of those made up names, so it could be either. There is a female porn star called Stormy Daniels, who became famous for her association with Donald Trump.
TheWeeDonkey · 05/05/2021 20:07

From reading the article it looks that way to me too @Marguerite2000

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 20:10

Not sure of its origin, but Stormé DeLarverie was born in 1920 and I’m pretty sure that was her birth name.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 05/05/2021 20:13

To be fair if the last d picked the new name I'm just surprised she didn't end up as 'boy' the boy.
Stormy sounds like something a small child might come up with. This is why you don't get kids to name siblings.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 05/05/2021 20:14

Kid not last*

TableFlowerss · 05/05/2021 20:14

Can I ask why some people are comparing this scenario to being vegan as if being a vegan is somehow abusive

@ImprobablePuffin

In answer to your question, it’s simply because currently pronouncing yourself as vegan is seen as a desired thing to do. People jump on the bandwagon in the same way (I believe) some parents think ya cool to say ‘My DC is non binary, we don’t use gender’ and the like.

At 4 years of age this is the parents doing. I mean why is it even news? Because people crave attention and like attractive things do following a trend, such as the current vegan trend, it’s as if it makes them cool.

This reply this reply from @LadyBuffOfBuffdonia is absolute nonsense and so far off the point it’s certainly not answering your question.

I believe people think it's the epitome of weird.
I decided I wanted to stop eating meat at six. My family all ate meat but my mum let me.
The difference between this and a trans kid is being vegetarian had no negative impact on my life or health apart from people making stupid comments.
Making fun of vegans is a national pastime. I've been the butt of jokes for 30+ years now.
Mmmm bacon

TableFlowerss · 05/05/2021 20:18

I didn’t mean they like attractive things don’t know what that was meant to say but I think most of it makes sense lol

Wasn’t there a child in a similar position who chose a name (sounded like a transformer) but mum decided that making such an important and life changing choice as name wasn’t something that should be left up to a child and changed it Confused
womaninatightspot · 05/05/2021 20:24

I despair. I have twin girls age 6 and when they were 4 one of them loved pink and sparkles. The other hated all pink sparkly stuff and loved fire engines. It means nothing, kids go through phases. The former fire engine loving twin now has a penchant for pink princess dresses and wants long hair. Former little miss pink and sparkly has short her hair (her choice) and loves her mud kitchen and nerf guns.

Kids should just be kids without gender based nonsense.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 05/05/2021 20:25

Well, of you knew anything about being vegan you'd know it was a philosophical way of living and not a trend.
What you're talking about is being plant based.
And you may see it how you like, but having a swipe at a group that has nothing to do with gender ideology is pretty unfair.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 20:26

‘Showed signs of being a boy at 18 months’ a news report said (also ‘assigned at birth’).

‘Eh?’ And ‘eh?????’

toffeebutterpopcorn · 05/05/2021 20:28

I don’t think it’s necessarily a swipe at vegans - more that the cat has been made vegan by those who have the power to do so, despite the cat being a cat who would probably eat mice and wasps if left left to its own devices. The cat doesn’t have a choice but probably once had a nibble of a soya burger.
