Lesbian Visibility Week

As Lesbian Visibility Week comes to an end, I want to make a quick reminder that
ALL LESBIANS ARE VALID!

Cisgender and Transgender women can be lesbians. Transgender men who date women don't consider themselves lesbians. All Lesbians deserve visibility!

Additionally, many have stated that they don't wish to date transgender people. That's fine! Just because someone is in the same dating pool doesn't mean you MUST be attracted to them. Plus genital preference is also totally fine! But don't forget, trans women are women so please do not degrade them just because you personally don't wish to date them.

Plus, let's continue to educate one another on the important information. Like preventing STI's as a lesbian, domestic abuse in lesbian relationships and how to deal with that, safe and consentual sex between lesbians. This is what we need to be educating young lesbians and bisexual women on.

Have a fabulous long weekend all 🤍🌈

There's nothing to struggle with. My brother is a man. Nothing else. Not a transman, not a girl, not a female. A man. That's all. It's really not that hard to understand .

To me this looks like you're erasing your brother's transness, like it's something to be ashamed of or to be hidden for some other reason.

I thought we weren't meant to say transman. I thought it had to have a space. I can't keep up. Hmm

theThreeofWeevils · 02/05/2021 20:32

Is your brother a cervix-haver?

Exactly. That's why I put it that way to show it's wrong.

He doesn't have people know that he is trans. Most people don't know he is. That's what he wants.

Of course you did

HamsterV2 · 02/05/2021 20:34

@ASugarr, you didn't answer my question further up the thread. Just in case you missed it, here it is again.

I'm trans and I've fully surgically transitioned. I've had FFS and a breast aug. I die tomorrow and am buried in a dress (unlikely as I don't "do" dresses but we'll go with it). My headstone has my female name on it.

In 500 years, my headstone has gone and some futuristic "Time Team" style programme digs me up, and due to the passage of time, all that's left are my bones. No coffin, no clothes. Just bones.

We'll pretend they can't instantly sex me due to the shape of my pelvis or any other features (perhaps a dog has dug up my pelvis and had it away for a tasty treat), but they take me to a lab to find out what sex I am.

What is their conclusion?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 02/05/2021 20:34

Whaaaat... its wrong to miss the space and say transmen/transman/Transwoman/transwomen so you wrote it that way to show that it's wrong... uhhhh... come again?

Erikrie · 02/05/2021 20:34

Women can always tell. It's about self preservation. I understand it's difficult for those not born female to understand that though.🤷

I'm interested in @ASugarr and @Shizuku 's responses to my question though.

Because if it's accepted that we just have a difference of opinion I'd like to know at what point we draw the line and say "that's all well and good but this here, this is the line where we have to accept that certain things are objectively, factually true, and some things are not."
This is so true. There is no line now apparently - which leaves everything that is solid and right and true being corrupted into meaningless banner waving and mantras that are designed to conceal and obscure the lines of safeguarding and break down boundaries.

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2021 20:41

In fucking deed. ASugarr, I don't report posts on the whole, but that is so unbelievably offensive.
Deliriumoftheendless · 02/05/2021 20:41

If you brother had been born a boy do you think you’d be so dedicated to being an ally?

Or would you have found another group to support, I wonder?

Black is an adjective that describes a persons skin colour. You can be an black woman, a white woman, a tall woman, a thin woman, an ugly woman, a lazy woman. These are adjectives.

Trans means "transition".

Transition from what...?
Trans is an adjective to describe that they were the opposite sex at birth. That's it.

My brother isn't the only person I know who is transgender in my life. I 100% would still be an ally

They will remain the opposite sex. As Hamster notes above, after all the possible surgical procedures, hormone treatment, etc, nobody has ever, ever, in the history of the world, changed sex.

ChewtonRoad · 02/05/2021 20:45

One of the first things that changes on estrogen is your smell.
Sex pheromones are not the only ones humans produce.

Women can always tell. It's about self preservation.
This, with bells on. We know the sex of another person, but what we do with the information may be as brief an acknowledgement of "that's a woman" or "that's a man" and then we get on with it.

It's just an adjective
Angry

AvocadoBathroom · 02/05/2021 20:46

"It's just an adjective. Just because someone is a black woman doesn't mean they can't just be called a woman and that they aren't a woman. Exactly the same applies."

This is so f*cking racist I can't even start. As a woman of colour I find this deeply offensive. It is not the same at all, and the fact you think it is shows how little you understand, about both biology and about people of colour who resent being used in your offensive (and stupid) argument.

But as you have dragged us there - what's the difference between someone identifying as a black person when they are white, or a man or woman identifying as the opposite sex?

LostToucan · 02/05/2021 20:48

Trans is an adjective to describe that they were the opposite sex at birth. That's it.

Sex is biological and immutable.

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2021 20:48

Avocado Flowers.

I find myself so often lately wanting to apologise to trans people, to women of colour, to lesbians, for these bloody awful, offensive arguments that a couple of posters keep shoving onto this board.

I cannot wait for this shit stupid ideology to fall out of fashion.

ASugarr · 02/05/2021 20:48

@ArabellaScott

Incorrect. Biologically most will. However legally they will not. Everyone on here says to 'respect that the law says x,y and z" when it comes to cis women, but for trans people that apparently doesn't matter.
