Lesbian Visibility Week

ASugarr · 01/05/2021 07:39

As Lesbian Visibility Week comes to an end, I want to make a quick reminder that
ALL LESBIANS ARE VALID!

Cisgender and Transgender women can be lesbians. Transgender men who date women don't consider themselves lesbians. All Lesbians deserve visibility!

Additionally, many have stated that they don't wish to date transgender people. That's fine! Just because someone is in the same dating pool doesn't mean you MUST be attracted to them. Plus genital preference is also totally fine! But don't forget, trans women are women so please do not degrade them just because you personally don't wish to date them.

Plus, let's continue to educate one another on the important information. Like preventing STI's as a lesbian, domestic abuse in lesbian relationships and how to deal with that, safe and consentual sex between lesbians. This is what we need to be educating young lesbians and bisexual women on.

Have a fabulous long weekend all 🤍🌈

You're just trolling now ASugar Smile

Back to GCSE English for you!

CorvusPurpureus · 02/05/2021 17:57

taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or exaggeration

Literally, a woman is an adult human female.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 02/05/2021 17:58

I think I want to have a stern word with someone's English teacher...

ASugarr · 02/05/2021 17:58

@CorvusPurpureus

According to the dictionary transgender women are female so if you really want to use the dictionary definition then you've got to accept the other definitions in the dictionary.

Man and woman are not gender terms. They are descriptors for biological facts. Literally. ☺️

Nodal · 02/05/2021 17:59

And if it's literally a fact that transwomen are literally women, why can no one define what being a women is or feels like? How do you know if you're literally a woman if you were literally born male?

Doyoumind · 02/05/2021 17:59

There are people who argue the earth is flat and that science proves it, despite science not proving it at all. There are people who say evolution didn't happen because they believe the Bible tells us God literally created the earth in 6 days and dinosaurs never existed, despite science proving that's ridiculous. What do you think of them ASugarr?

If males are women and men are females then we're all the same and what is the point? The only necessary identifier is sex because that sets out how we create more of us. Nothing else matters. That's why gender is nonsense. Its only role is to put us in boxes that dictate how we should or shouldn't behave or dress. It's the opposite of progressive.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 02/05/2021 18:00

Well a man is "an adult human male"
And a woman is "an adult human female"
So no. You can't have "women who aren't born as female". If you are an adult who was born female then you are a woman. Although you could identify as a trans man. And that's cool. My best friend is married to a trans man. Said trans man is well aware he is female. We had a lovely chat recently about the best reusable San Pro. (Despite my friend being the female/woman/not trans one in the relationship, her partner is the one who has periods.)

CorvusPurpureus · 02/05/2021 18:00

Again, how are they female?

Not biologically.
Not legally.
Not in the eyes of the vast majority of humankind.

Your belief system - which you're perfectly entitled to of course - is niche.

ASugarr · 02/05/2021 18:00

@334bu

The physical sex of a transwoman is male, however they also identify their gender as woman. A tiny percentage may also be legally considered female with some exemptions, for example if they are heir to an aristocratic title they are considered to be legally male despite their GRC. The rest are both physically and legally male.
Okay and? Doesn't make them not woman. I'm not going to bother arguing further because as some may know, I have a brother who is transgender and regardless of his biological sex, he is no less of a man than any other man. He is legally a man. Most people don't even know he is transgender. Most likely you've all encountered a transgender person without even realizing. Biological sex is different to gender. Being female doesn't make you automatically a woman. Period. 🤍

Aye, men are literally women. True fact. Grin

Sugar, honestly, I can see you are really doing your best, but maybe time to just have a break, eh?

Whythesadface · 02/05/2021 18:01

You seem to be missing a word.
Some people do not Feel like the gender they literally are.
They modify their bodies to appear as they feel, but are unable to change their true biology sex. True
The person who had surgery too look like a cat , case in point, is Not a cat .

RedDogsBeg · 02/05/2021 18:01

It literally is. Man and Woman are gender terms in which you don't have to be biologically male or female to determine what you are. It is a literal fact that some people who are born male are women and some who are born female are men. Literally a fact.

No, and we can do this all day. You are not quoting facts you are quoting your opinion.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 02/05/2021 18:02

It literally is. Man and Woman are gender terms

And yet another poster here has claimed that man and woman are sex terms and that male and female are gender terms. So which is it? You can't both be right.

ArabellaScott · 02/05/2021 18:02

Why do you keep bringing up periods, also? Is it to emphasise the biological aspect?

Doyoumind · 02/05/2021 18:02

You might find a dictionary that has been coerced into saying TW are women but no dictionary says TW are female. Evidence please.

CorvusPurpureus · 02/05/2021 18:02

Asugarr, you can support your sibling & the belief system you both share, without attempting to impose it on the rest of us, y'know?

WeeBisom · 02/05/2021 18:03

ASugarr: the idea that 'man' and 'woman' are gender terms that are not linked to biological sex is a theory that was invented by postmodern feminists in the late 1980s and early 90s (see the work of Judith Butler.) Before that point, feminists accepted that 'woman' was the word for human females, and 'femininity' was the system of gender and gender roles which were imposed on human females (see, for example, de Beauvoir.) This idea that 'woman' is linked to gender, and not sex, is part of an in-vogue feminist/gender studies theory but this doesn't mean it's a fact (and as I already pointed out, these theorists don't accept the concept of 'facts', just discourses.) This isn't a debate that can be sorted out by appealing to 'facts' because it is highly dependent on what theory of gender you subscribe to. The idea that 'woman' is a gender term is very popular but it's also contentious and up for debate.

LadyBuffOfBuffdonia · 02/05/2021 18:05

I've worked in education for literally years. If men had been discovered to be women and vice versa you'd have thought it would crop up in training and new curriculum materials. Maybe I was off that day.

Nodal · 02/05/2021 18:05

What will happen to your belief system if your brother ever detrasitions ASugar? Like many transmen currently are. like Keira Bell. Will is stand up to scrutiny then? Will you still support your sibling unconditionally?

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 02/05/2021 18:06

I have a brother who is transgender and regardless of his biological sex, he is no less of a man than any other man.

Another genuine question.
Would you/your brother be happy for him to play rugby/wrestle against my childhood best friend. He's 6ft6. And built like a brick shit house as my dad would say.
Because I wouldn't want to compete against him. Heck last time he gave me a friendly hug he hurt me. Blush

theThreeofWeevils · 02/05/2021 18:07

Just to clarify, ASugarr, in the hope of averting future confusion, the 'mens' in menstruation derives from momth (mensis) rather than either 'mind' (mens) or 'men's' (something adult males have).

HamsterV2 · 02/05/2021 18:07

Literally, the definition of a man (according to the Cambridge Dictionary) is:

An adult male human being.

The definition of male is:

Used to refer to men or boys, or the sex that fertilises eggs, and does not produce babies or eggs itself.

In EITHER case - there is no mention of the word "gender", only sex.

The definition of a woman is:

An adult female human being.

The definition of female is:

Belonging or relating to women, or the sex that can give birth to young or produce eggs.

Again, there is no mention of the word "gender", only sex.

The definition of gender is:

The social condition of being male or female

There is no mention of the word sex.

Can I therefore presume ASugarr that you are more knowledgeable than the lexicographers who compiled these definitions?

ASugarr · 02/05/2021 18:07

@Nodal

What will happen to your belief system if your brother ever detrasitions ASugar? Like many transmen currently are. like Keira Bell. Will is stand up to scrutiny then? Will you still support your sibling unconditionally?
If he detransitions, that's fine. That doesn't mean other trans people aren't who they are. I love him and support him no matter what. But he is honestly the happiest he has ever been right now and I couldn't be more proud. I'll leave it there.

Doyoumind · 02/05/2021 18:08

Believing your sibling is a man is your right. I hope they are living a happy life.

Having a trans sibling does not give you the right to argue away rights for females who don't want males damaging those hard won rights.

As PP said, can't you just be for your sibling and for rights for females whose needs are different from those of males?
