LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

@BraveBananaBadge

Well this is the thing isn't it Listening. You can see on Twitter a lie can get around the world before the truth can get its shoes on. Why has no-one stopped to wonder if really, truly, a 'hate group' would be entertained by the Charity Commission for even a moment? Or that the LGBA exists purely to 'exterminate' the T? They're all using the same extreme language in their rants and, just like with JKR it will all be taken as gospel as passed on. It's so preposterous I don't understand if I must be missing something.
You're not missing anything.

I do understand the shock, though. It's quite something to witness such uncontrolled rage aimed largely at women. Purely for delineating their own sexual orientation, and thereby excluding male born individuals from it.

The fury is very disturbing.

However, interesting that Paisley has referenced this in his latest 'complain about LGB Alliance' instructions? Surely that is Stonewall out then, because they literally state on their website that they are campaigning to abolish single sex exemptions in the EA?

He's really not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

In 2018 Liam Hackett (CEO 'Ditch the Label') attempted to pressure a hospital's women's breast screening service which prohibited men from entering the waiting area. Hackett claimed that his being stopped was 'sexism' and he felt cold in the corridor outside. He was unsuccesful.

'Anger at hospital's ban on men in breast screening clinic waiting area'
(extract)
"[Mr Hackett] urged the hospital on to “immediately review and revoke” the “dated, sexist & disgusting” policy, which he said had caused “offence, upset and embarrassment”, in a post on Twitter

A spokeswoman for the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS said it was “not a case of men not being allowed into the breast centre, but very specifically one interior waiting room.”

“Men are welcome in the outside area but women have to take their tops off, just put one layer back on and walk through that small waiting room to go through for their scan,” she told The Independent.

“In feedback, patients said it makes them feel uncomfortable when there are men in that waiting room, so we instigated the policy to protect the women who are using that facility. It is to make them feel safe secure and dignified and that they are treated in a place where there interests are put first.”

She said the clinic was aimed at women who have been invited as part of national screening programme and are generally those who are not presenting symptoms.

The appointment lasts around 20 minutes and around 50 women are seen each day.

“The policy has been in place for 10 years or more and we have not had that many complaints in that time,” she said. “Patients who have been referred by a GP who do have symptoms would be seen at a different outpatients clinic and they are encouraged to bring support with them.”

Those who wanted to be accompanied by a man were also able to attend the outpatients clinic." (continues)

I'm really pleased to hear that my donations to LGB Alliance will now attract gift aid!

I'm surprised that the charity commission have said that charities are not allowed to denigrate the rights of others though. Campaigning to have the sex based exemptions in the equality act removed would be a fairly straight forward case of denigrating the rights of others, I'd have thought. And we all know a charity which has been trying to do that for years.

I wonder if they would still make such a sensible and compassionate woman-centred statement, given some of the other statements that trust has made?

Stopthisnow · 20/04/2021 17:58

34.If the promotion of the rights of one group is to be pursued in a way which invariably involves the denigration of the rights of others, that purpose may not be for public benefit.

This is interesting to me as many organisations promote that males who identify as girls/women should have the ‘right’ to enter female spaces, and the ‘right’ to compete in sports against females. They also promote the ‘right’ of people to demand everyone pretends they are the opposite sex to which they objectively are. And promote the ‘right’ for males to be considered lesbians. Those promotions of ‘rights’ for males can reasonably be argued to not be ‘for the public benefit’, as they denigrate the sex based rights of females in very obvious ways, denigrate the rights of homosexual females and the compelled speech aspect denigrates everyones right to free speech and freedom of belief. Perhaps the charitable status of organisations who promote ‘gender identity’ policies should be challenged as their promotion of gender identity policies ‘may not be for public benefit’ as they ‘invariably involve the denigration of the rights of others’?

This is such an interesting point. I was reading the charity commission's decision and another key point they make is that the benefits to the public of any charity's "purposes" have to outweigh the harms. I think that any reasonable weighing of the costs and benefits to the public, which takes into consideration the fact that women are 50% of the public, would not think that charity's activities are a net positive. However I suppose "purposes" is not the same as "activities" legally speaking?

Has anyone ever actually sent objections to the Charity Commission re that charity's charitable status?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/04/2021 18:02

As pp have said, that should rule out Stonewall, which is actively campaigning against the interests of most women and girls, who in polls have repeatedly said that they are happy to live and let live but don't want male people in female spaces unless they've had sex reassignment surgery.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/04/2021 18:03

Be careful what you wish for, TRAs and other fans of Stonewall, Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence etc!

Mumteedum · 20/04/2021 18:06

I'm coming at this knowing nothing about LGB alliance and whether or not they have said or done anything that could be considered anti trans beyond not stating the T but logically I don't really follow....

Forgive me as a straight middle aged woman, sexuality is a protected characteristic so it seems perfectly reasonable there may be a group focussing on sexuality. Transgenderism and indeed other gender identities such as non binary are not about sexuality or sexual preference.

I know trans women who are in relationships with women and state they are lesbian, I know trans men who would state they are non binary and others who would say they are gay men. So any gay trans people are not excluded are they? Unless LGB alliance don't believe trans people can be gay I guess? Is that the problem?

Talking objectively, what is the issue with being a niche charity? Being for the rights of one group doesn't automatically mean you hate another group. There are plenty of strange charities including all UK public schools!. I'm a dog person not a cat person but it doesn't mean the cat protection league is out to get the dog's trust!

Am I being naïve? I'm pretty confused about this issue at times.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/04/2021 18:09

There's your issue, Mumtteedum, you're expecting reason.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 20/04/2021 18:10

Yes, I would have thought that Stonewall wouldn't want to draw too much attention to the whole 'denigrating the rights of others' thing, when it's on their website for all to see!

I don't get it, have they forgotten that it's up as one of their campaign points, are they hoping that people just won't notice?

SapphosRock · 20/04/2021 18:11

Yes that is the problem. The LGB alliance would say trans women in relationships with women are heterosexual.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/04/2021 18:13

Unless LGB alliance don't believe trans people can be gay I guess?

They do, it's just about sex, not gender identity.

yourhairiswinterfire · 20/04/2021 18:13

Am I misremembering, or was Allison Bailey helping to set up this ''hate group'' one of the reasons she was reported and investigated?

I've definitely seen people attacking her for that reason, but is that one of the actual points in her case? (Gah, I'm kicking myself for not bookmarking the live tweets from the preliminary hearing).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/04/2021 18:14

Yes I think that's why she was (allegedly) targeted by Stonewall.

R0wantrees · 20/04/2021 18:15

I was thinking the same, specifically in respect of Scottish Trans Alliance (part of Equality Network which has charity status) deliberately lobbying to remove sex based safeguards from vulnerable women in the female prison estate for political gain.

Erkrie · 20/04/2021 18:18

Well done, UK. I'm an unrepentant Scottish separatist, but I also love you for standing up for minorities against huge and increasing homophobic and misogynist pressure around the world. Scotland (and other countries) can learn from the UK holding strong on egalitarian principles, no doubt.
