LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

@AbsintheFriends

I had a comment deleted this morning, though I have no idea as it didn't name or quote any particular poster. However, since the report button is obviously being used very readily, I'll just c&p the bit that said I've always valued the level of discussion on MN, and the articulacy, intelligence and critical evaluation skills of the many formidable women here - which I'm sure is what most of us come here to engage with. It would be such a shame to see the standard of discussion here dragged down by circular arguments and baseless accusations.
Agreed! It's patently clear which are factual or coherently analytical posts and which aren't.
Scepticaltank · 21/04/2021 14:26

I agree Absinthe I just think that "disgusting" went far too far frankly.

Well done again to LGB Alliance. I look forward to them STARTING their charity work, they have only been a charity FOR A DAY so I can't wait to see what they will DO NOW THEY ARE A CHARITY and are permitted to start BEING A CHARITY, I hope to not see too much more disgust at the lack of CHARITY WORK before they were ACTUALLY A CHARITY.

yeah, yeah, yeah! LGB Alliance are pro LGB. Many feminists are pro women (all females).

It seems to infuriate some people to be not centred by everyone..... Here is a newsflash. Being focused on progressing the rights and needs of other groups, and not trans people, doesn't mean they are anti-trans at all.

Yes I teach RSE. I work alongside doctors who are gender specialist and sexual health specialists. Sadly no I cannot discuss it publically due to privacy laws and confidencality.

What age range do you teach, and do you tell them that the course material is confidential?

Teenagers and older. And yes, they know that everything is confidential.
Datun · 21/04/2021 14:36

Thanks Leafstamp

No materials taught in schools should be 'confidential", surely? Not even for 16+ children.

PotholeHellhole · 21/04/2021 14:40

I'm sorry?

You are one of the providers for a religious and sexual education to teenagers, and attending teenagers are not permitted to talk to anyone about the contents of the course?

Have I misunderstood?

Yes to this!! It's so genuinely heart-lifting to know that fiercely intelligent, humane people of integrity now have an official mandate to speak up for LGB people. I have complete faith that they'll use their charity status to elevate the discussion around this issue in a way that will benefit everyone - because intelligent, rigorous scrutiny always does.

R0wantrees · 21/04/2021 14:41

Teenagers and older. And yes, they know that everything is confidential.

Nobody adequately trained in Safeguarding and Child Protection ever states that everything is confidential, nor should they ever suggest this is the case to children.

Helleofabore · 21/04/2021 14:42

And yes, they know that everything is confidential.

Seriously? Do you know anything at all about safeguarding? They know that everything is confidential???

ASugarr · 21/04/2021 14:43

Relationships. Not religion.
theThreeofWeevils · 21/04/2021 14:43

Relationships rather than religion, although genderism seems to be a belief system, certainly Smile

Obviously other than for safeguarding reasons. I mean in terms of our resources and the conversations brought up in class (as long as they don't harm others or themselves).
PotholeHellhole · 21/04/2021 14:44

Thank you for the clarification, but I am afraid that does not make it less of a gross safeguarding failure.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 21/04/2021 14:45

Someone I know had the excellent idea of reporting the anti-LGB Alliance petition to change.org for its homophobic premise, so I’ve just done that.

Thislittlefinger123 · 21/04/2021 14:45

It's lesbophobic to lesbians who aren't same sex attracted. I mean, honestly, what?! GrinConfusedGrin

Right. This thread has enlightened me that it's absolutely phobic for a charity representing one group of people to not also represent another group BECAUSE THEY ARE SHOUTING LOUDLY. So I'm off to complain to the charity commission about Stonewall, because I am henceforth identifying as a badger, and having read their website I can't see ANYTHING about their work in relation to badgers, so they are clearly BADGERPHOBIC and I am outraged.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/04/2021 14:45

Good idea.

CorvusPurpureus · 21/04/2021 14:45

Asugarr, obviously you don't have to answer this, if it's too personal, but would I be correct in thinking that you do not hold QTS?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 14:46

Teenagers and older. And yes, they know that everything is confidential. Report yourself and your organisation for safeguarding breaches! That is a really scary statement.

PotholeHellhole · 21/04/2021 14:46

Obviously other than for safeguarding reasons. I mean in terms of our resources and the conversations brought up in class (as long as they don't harm others or themselves).

You use teaching resources with attendees that they are not allowed to mention to anyone outside class?

Exactly. The thing most feared by those screaming transphobia about the LGB Alliance is intelligent, rigorous scrutiny Grin
