She's mainly being pulled apart in the comments due to, you know, lying.

No doubt in my mind that she's getting puberty blockers and the contraceptive pill mixed up.

Such a shame as I have been following her since my early 20's and found her feminism very accessible back then.

Am I being unreasonable to say she's talking nonsense??

What really bothers me about all this virtue signalling is that some celebs (like Jameela) will ignore MEDICAL EVIDENCE in order to be seen as woke and supportive to certain sections of society, such as trans. It completely undermines the cause in my opinion because blatant disregard of said medical evidence shows a real recklessness and gung-ho attitude, which you cannot have when talking about such things.

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 14/04/2021 16:06

But yet we have children who even the Tavistock have shown have no improvement in their mental health after being given blockers amd the answer seems to be to make sure no one can say anything negative as opposed to looking at what else can be done that might help.

It's astonishing isn't it. They don't even seem to work in the way campaigners claim they do - to make young people feel better about themselves.

WarriorN · 14/04/2021 16:09

Was there som evidence of increased suicidal ideation in some groups?

nauticant · 14/04/2021 16:12

Just reading the reies on Twitter...she should just admit she was wrong and confused PB and the contraceptive pill.

She'll be looking at the engagement, at the 1K retweets and 10K likes, and be thinking that today has been one of her more successful days. Who gives a shit about spreading medical misinformation when you're getting that level of attention?

What I dont understand is, that despite being given the same timeframe and the same opportunity as everyone else involved to produce the evidence, to produce the results, add any info they feel is necessary to contribute to the cases fir the treatment they are advocating for, it doest materialise or isn't sufficient. Amd thee are organisations with government funding and alot of online support. But there's no questioning of why. No anger or skepticism directed at them for being unable or unwilling to put together a case. Its some how all down to bigots.

Well when you block everyone who doesn’t agree with you 100%/proclaim you the next messiah that does skew your stats somewhat...

Have any of her classmates ever come forward with comments? I can’t imagine she became a terrible attention seemed recently...
The thread on .. er... Rattle Wife was started by someone who was at school with her. It makes for interesting reading.
Helleofabore · 14/04/2021 16:35

But that involves being prepared to read things you don't necessarily agree with or like.

And therein lies the catch. When you have passed over your own ability to critically think about a topic to those you view as opinion leaders, even if they have absolutely no expertise in the topic at all, you then rely on their interpretation.

We have all seen the feeds with 'I have watched/read this so you don't have to subject yourself to harm/literal violence/actually having to think for yourself'. We have seen posters link so called opinion leaders links and thought, who in their right mind thinks that this person, with this background, is a thought leader in this topic?

I mean, I have a laugh every time one poster keeps linking to a blog as an appeal to authority. A blog by a person who was deeply involved in the sexual harassment of a woman on twitter earlier in the year, AND around IWD was involved in a twitter exchange demeaning women's toilet habits - those of hovering and the noise of women urinating. Seriously, that this person is being linked as an expert on women, feminism and such, is quite astonishing. But, that same poster has linked to that blog across numerous threads and never wavers in their support of their opinion.

It does seem constant though. The outsourcing of critical thinking and analysis. The unevidenced, or falsely evidenced claims. The refusal to acknowledge that a supposed thought leader could possibly be capable of only a purely biased view point and that you have been taken for a ride in wholeheartedly believing them, instead using them merely as a thought provoker.

SmellsLikeTeenBedroom · 14/04/2021 16:44

I actually knew of one girl who I believe, looking back, was on puberty blockers. This was late 80s, she was the year below me at primary school and had noticeable full breasts by about the middle of Year 4. I asked my mum about it and I was told that the girl had "special medicine from the doctors" to stop her from developing until she was older. Looking back now, I assume she was on blockers for precocious puberty. She went to a different secondary so I assume she stopped taking them at some point. Other than that one girl with very early puberty, I knew of no one who had puberty blockers, and definitely not for heavy periods. Thats just nonsense.

Trixie78 · 14/04/2021 16:47

I was a teenage girl in the 90s and this was never s thing. No-one knew what they were. She's thinking of the pill, loads of girls including myself were on it for heavy periods GPs handed them out like sweets.

alkanet · 14/04/2021 16:57

Ah yes,
Don't question the ideology, you will only upset yourself. We have absorbed it all and can tell you all you need to know. Just repeat the mantra till you feel better. Now where have I heard that sort of thing before? (Thanks for the info Transbadger, looks interesting.)

Datun · 14/04/2021 17:01

Apart from anything else, how would it work? Stop you menstruating, but only if you keep taking the blockers?

So unless there are 'loads' of females with fully arrested development, at best, it's an incredibly short fix.

takingmytimeonmyride · 14/04/2021 17:01

I was a teenager in the 90s and I'm pretty sure none of my peers were on puberty blockers.

I was the first to start my period in my class, in year 6 at age 10. I was prescribed mefenamic acid as a teen because they were heavy and painful, then later went on the pill.

Definitely no puberty blockers.

Wtf is Jameela Jamil going on about? Again.

Helleofabore · 14/04/2021 17:04

Just repeat the mantra till you feel better.

There is safety in that mantra isn't there? I can imagine some smarmy guru repeating it soothingly....

Abhannmor · 14/04/2021 17:18

No you are quite right ...it is puerile nonsense. So easy to disprove as well.

WarriorN · 14/04/2021 17:18

Anyone found it referenced in NICE yet?

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 14/04/2021 17:46

The next tweet up from her ridiculous puberty blockers one, is talking about how plastic surgery for teens is at an all time high and how awful that is.

But she is absolutely fine with girls having their healthy breasts chopped off before they have even reached their twenties? And anyone who does object to that is a 'hateful bigot'?

It's just all so illogical, none of it makes sense!

Still cannot believe she hasn't deleted that PB tweet, I'm cringing for her.

DodoPatrol · 14/04/2021 17:48

@WarriorN

Yes. Girls. Those born girls, that is.

supermum87 · 14/04/2021 17:52

I wonder is she is getting confused with a pill/pills you can take that delay your period. I know a lot of my friends took them when we were in the last year of school because they had a school trip/family holiday and they would take some medication and it would delay their period for that cycle?

WarriorN · 14/04/2021 17:55

@Shizuku

Not in girls.

Adults. Very Rarely. Most are given ablation, operations, tranexamic acid. A teen would be given the pill first. Even Ibuprofen can help.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/04/2021 17:56

Apart from anything else, how would it work? Stop you menstruating, but only if you keep taking the blockers?

Yes. Typically for fibroids, IVF etc it's a very short term use. Due to the bad side effects.

WarriorN · 14/04/2021 17:56

Never seen it mentioned on mn in 9 years. Or womens fb groups or forums.
