Anyone fancy co-parenting with LOJ?

Owen Jones wants a baby, and would like a lesbian couple to impregnate. Any takers on mumsnet? He could be quite a catch for someone looking for a sperm donor and a co-parent to raise a well balanced child.
He got a bit of flack, so is doubling down on the the "anti-trans cult" and calling everyone homophobic.

@SapphosRock

As a married lesbian with two kids conceived by sperm donation I can give a bit of insight into why OJ May struggle to find a lesbian couple to co-parent with.
  1. Lesbian couples have access to sperm banks full of donations from handsome, intelligent Vikings
  1. Lesbian couples who conceive via sperm donation are both legally able to be on a child's birth certificate as parents. A co-parenting agreement with a gay man would mean the lesbian partner who doesn't carry the baby would have no legal parental rights.
  1. Owen Jones is a twit.
Brilliant, SapphosRock

Hopefully womb transplants for trans women will be a thing soon, cos it'll be so much fun watching bigots imploding when a trans woman offers to be a surrogate for a gay couple

In an ideal world womb transplants would be banned- for all women and trans women. The infertility industry is vile. It's a great pity in vitro fertilisation was ever permitted.

PotholeHellhole · 04/04/2021 16:22

Taken from Owen Jones' patreon.

The corporate media has failed us. It's time to build something new.I'm launching a new video channel, including a weekly Sunday show with incredible guests, as well as regular mini documentaries, interviews and vlogs.

This will be a channel which challenges the powerful, confronts injustice, fights the far right, and looks for alternatives. We'll also debate the other side - and have a laugh.

But I need to hire an incredible team - videographers, editors and producers - all on a union wage - to make this happen. Without your support, we can't do this.

This will be your channel: we want you involved every step of the way.If you want to challenge the right-wing grip on our media and give a platform to incredible voices and ideas, please give your support!

A rather inspiring call-to-arms.

There was a time in my life when I would have subscribed to his channel immediately (look, he's older than me- I admired him!), but even then I think an appearance by Jedward would have given me pause. Incredible voices? They can't seem to handle appearing on the Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

zanahoria · 04/04/2021 16:28

disappointed with Jedward, thought they were a bit more high brow than that

toffeebutterpopcorn · 04/04/2021 16:30

That’s Jedward... the daft twins. Who are you getting them mixed up with?

TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 04/04/2021 16:31

@SpaceBatAngelDragon

Surely a transman whose sexuality is gay should be his preferred choice? And the only choice for someone wishing to support trans rights, and the reproductive rights of trans men specifically. No need for a co-parenting situation, they could be an actual couple. Why is he excluding trans men?
This is exactly what I’m wondering. This has to be the logical solution for all those (biologically male) gay men who believe TMAM/TWAW and who want to be fathers.

Just find the kind of gay man who was born with a uterus and vagina and you don’t need a surrogate, you don’t need a “broody lesbian couple”, you don’t need any help from anyone else at all! Just some good old fashioned gay PIV sex, and job done. Barring actual fertility issues, of course.

Why are OJ and other high profile gay men not considering this route over and above any other, if they really believe TMAM?

Could it possibly be because their sexual orientation is exclusively towards other males, after all? Could it possibly be that despite what Stonewall says and despite what they themselves profess to believe, they’re not “homogenderal” after all, but homosexual?

Could there possibly be a gigantic whiff of the most monstrous hypocrisy going on here, especially from those who believe lesbians are “transphobic” if they refuse to countenance “girldick”?

Or are they really just that stupid?

As Gibbons said, you need to be pretty sharp to tell a fundamental lie consistently.

Defaultname · 04/04/2021 16:46

Sex with vagina-having men could be the highroad to parenthood for homosexual males. A road, in fact, paved with good intentions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/04/2021 16:47

Well, me and the gynaecologists and transplant experts who wrote this paper:

Gynaecologists and transplant specialists are not fertility experts. You don't seem to realise there's a bit more to it than sticking a womb in and hoping it takes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/04/2021 16:48

If they're busy, maybe The Cheeky Girls could discuss Corbyn's comeback tour?

Grin
yourhairiswinterfire · 04/04/2021 16:48

Yeah, the activists made these rules, and now seem upset that people are actually playing by them. It's not homophobia when it comes from them, it's 'progressive', but us applying their own logic and rules to this situation absolutely is homophobia.

Confused Someone make it make sense!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 04/04/2021 16:55

It's already been done with women who don't happen to be trans way to bury the lede there Hmm

OT but I am delighted that whenever I see SapphosRock post now I shall imagine her surrounded by tiny vikings Grin

It's not about wanting a child then. Just getting one over on women. Using their transplanted organs. Lovely. Not that I could imagine a queue of women willing to donate. So I don't think it's likely to be a regular occurrence even if it does become technically possible.

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 17:14

That's exactly what it's about. Incredibly ugly post there from our friend Shizuku.

PronounssheRa · 04/04/2021 17:19

Every time I want some intelligent and insightful political commentary Jedward are the first people that come to mind, always.

Let's be honest OJ contacted them because they share his brand of misogyny. But fucking hell, Jedward, Grin is OJ struggling to get guests on his new channel.

Back to the subject at hand, wombs are not plug and play.

SapphosRock · 04/04/2021 17:28

Grin they're not so tiny Gibbons - my kids are made of strong Viking stock. Won't be long before they tower over me and DW.

According to gender theory, a gay couple could be a man and a transman or 2 transmen.

If ever a person born with male gametes were able to have a womb implanted, wouldn’t it be easier to impregnate themselves than expecting a transwoman to do the job?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 04/04/2021 18:05

True. And maybe they could even find a way to grow their own eggs, or would they also be provided with fully stocked ovaries?

SapphosRock · 04/04/2021 18:17

@yourhairiswinterfire

Maybe they were addressing TRAs.
Mummyoflittledragon · 04/04/2021 18:38

Empress

I know it’s a rhetorical question but I wouldn’t expect ovaries to function.... unless we really are talking pure sci fi with a fully functioning, genetically altered ‘dual sex’ person. My thought was impregnation via donor egg or eggs somehow ripened and extracted prior to implantation from the ovaries of the donor uterus and this theoretical and apparently easy implantation method doesn’t include ovaries... and transmen seeking hysterectomy could consider donating their uteruses. RedToothBrush · 04/04/2021 18:49

@sashagabadon

OJ aside, I am not sure why any woman would actively choose to coparent with someone they are not in a relationship in. Why add that extra layer of stress/ admin/ potential for conflict/ disagreement? What if the co parent becomes an arse and argues with you that over every tiny thing? Why out your self through that when it is not necessary. Especially a lesbian couple where you have two parents. You can pay for babysitting if “an extra pair of hands” appeals, you’ve got grandparents and maybe uncles, aunts and cousins already. You can get sperm on the internet. What would the male co parent bring to the table?
You also have to consider the future partners of potential single co-parents.

OJ says nothing about his partner (no idea if he has one).

The whole idea of co-parenting between 3/4 parents (or even potentially more if couples split by design rather than by unfortunate circumstance doesn't strike me as being in the best interests of the child tbh.

But yeah. I guess I'm a bigot. shrugs I am not longer particularly bothered by the slur. Esecially if its one thrown about by OJ

Bordois · 04/04/2021 18:54

@Shizuku

If you think that will be fun, the effect a pregnancy will have on a body not designed to accommodate it will be fucking hilarious. Oh, if it weren't for the fact that there's an actual babies life being involved in the experiment you absolute psychopath.
adviceseekingnamechanger · 04/04/2021 19:26

I'm still laughing that @shizuku thinks a woman receiving a womb transplant is somehow evidence that a trans women/biological male could receive one. You understand there's quite a significant, fundamental difference between the two, yeah? And zero concern mentioned for the baby of course. Just looking forward to trans women being able to stick it to the bigots. Very revealing.

Honestly every single time you post, lurkers are reading and seeing the gaping holes in your arguments. You aren't doing your cause any favours. But it is hilarious to watch.
