Absolutely :)

I don't need to spent 71 minutes listening to a pair of grifters to know it's nonsense.

Yes. It's these sorts of brilliant arguments that led me to hold the views I have.

As for the Lawrence Fox threads, I think you'll find that the vast majority of posters shot down the idea of voting for him. I was one of the vaguely positive voices because I was pleasantly surprised by some of his other policies on women.

However, for the record, I don't intend to vote for him.

Also, believing in the reality of biological sex is not 'hating trans people' or 'transphobia'.

@Quadzilla

I love how they use terf island as an insult. We’re the island that had the suffragettes FFS!! Of course we’re terf island. Women have a long tradition of standing up to misogynist bullshit and bullies on this island. I see terf island as a badge of honour to be honest.
Quite!
HamFisted · 30/03/2021 08:15

The fact that you think there's some kind of trans agenda...

Well, of course there is. Why would you have a lobbying group without an agenda? Just for a fun place to hang out? Any group with political presence/interests has an agenda. Whether you support that agenda or not is another issue.

Igneococcus · 30/03/2021 08:18

It's like a term you find on maps in fantasy books, it will be at the edges of the map that are usually called "The Great Waste" or "The Northern Badlands" or something like it and there will be dragons drawn around it to indicate the grave danger anybody who ventures there is putting themselves in.

UK gets called "TF Island," for a reason.

Grin

That is the thing about turf, it spreads very quickly in sunshine.

And unlike ideological arguments, turf needs a well balanced foundation to grow in the first place. It won’t grow strong and robust without it.

So, while the ideology trying to displace it is fragile and needs people to believe or just pretend to believe to make its way, turf has the depth to grow naturally.

It is a ‘grass roots’ kind of thing....

tableauvivant · 30/03/2021 08:32

Like Jane Horrock’s character in Life Is Sweet quacking “fascist” and “Tory” at everyone.

Exactly the image that popped into my head.

I don’t come here for this Nonsense™, but it’s grimly entertaining watching people who spout it get expertly eviscerated – the closest I get to enjoying bloodsport.

Hi all. We've removed a number of posts from this thread that are either personal attacks or fall short of our standard of civil debate. Hopefully things will get back on track now - and please do report any further concerns.

aliasundercover · 30/03/2021 08:41

Ahhhh, I got reported.

I must have made someone feel ‘unsafe’.

whyamidoingthistomyself · 30/03/2021 08:50

Ok, so supposing I don't want to watch a 70 min video ( so True, I much prefer the written word ) to get this thread "nice", could someone give me the quote or messages(s) they really liked ?

Quadzilla · 30/03/2021 08:59

The interview is also available as a podcast if you don’t have time to sit and watch a video.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2021 09:02

I remember when I was about 14. If I was losing an argument I would shout ‘fascist’ or ‘racist’, thinking this somehow rescued my position. Seems some people don’t move much past that stage.

Quite. They also don't seem to have much self awareness that in their 30s and 40s they come across as a cross between Rik Mayall in the Young Ones and Kevin The Teenager.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2021 09:04

Same. "Non gullible island" basically.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 30/03/2021 09:05

UK gets called "TERF Island," for a reason.

Is that meant to be insulting? It's a measure of how British women don't stand for nonsense.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2021 09:09

You might want to tell that to the political lobbying lobby group of political lobbyists, stonewall, who campaigned to have all single sex exemptions removed from the equality act.

I remember this poster flounced and retired to her fainting couch on another thread where she came to "educate" us about science because someone used the term "trans lobby". The horror!

Fantastic, she's absolutely right that as a woman here, you start work thinking all the issues around women's rights and equality for women are sorted out and then you have a baby and boom!

You realise how it really isn't.
