"Feel empowered... uplift and motivate... supporting the Campaign for Female Education" ... by buying a notebook with a load of women's arses in their knickers on the cover.

Slow handclap for @FromPaperchase t.co/WwyKpOqp17

OP posts:

Cloaca would be a lovely name for a girl.

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 16:15

@ChristinaXYZ

The image on its own is just silly - but if people want to buy it that's up to them. The fact that Paperchase think it is empowering is pretty ghastly. And having thought it, that they then actually said it out loud and still could not hear that it makes no sense.

...and then logic tells me that if they are that daft about this they'll be useless at applying rational thought elsewhere - who would trust their thought processes on the environment or modern slavery if they truly can't think straight? And sure enough a quick look at their website shows a superficial environment policy at the very, very, very bottom of which is their modern slavery statement. As a subset of their green policies (?) Not meriting as much detail or prominence as trees for heaven sake (yes, I know important, but still!).

What woke companies really advertise is not their virtue but their illogicality. And then, what can you trust them on?

Well, that's done it for me. I normally forget whatever prattish thing they've done. I don't think I'll forget your post.

No more Paperchase for me.

alkanet · 20/03/2021 16:34

On Ereshkigalangclegs advice I popped to Paperchase to let them know how I feel.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/03/2021 16:57

Ahahahah - that even looks like me!

ThinkWittyThoughts · 20/03/2021 18:16

Thanks gibbons I haven't ordered yet so will give those a look.

Well this is nice, also from ash + chess:

Do paperchase have that one?

The fact that the bums are all white says it all. There’s only one kind of diversity that matters. And only one thing women are for. Ugh.

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 20:15

I don't think I have the right kind of mind for this stuff. A lifetime of being called a bleeding-heart lefty for wanting to improve prison conditions and so on, and I just can't get this.

I know I'm supposed to see that police car and think, "sticking it to The Man, yeah!" but I don't.

The things I do think about include, but are not limited to:
● was the car occupied?
● what will the environmental cost be of replacing that car?
● what impact could the air pollution from the fire have had on local residents' health?
● were any animals harmed by that fire?

ArabellaScott · 20/03/2021 21:01

A stationery company that doesn't know their arse from their grocer's apostrophe?

Do people really care about this kind of stuff? I assumed OP was joking.

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 21:16

I do.

I emailed paperchase about the cock/arse/(and I was told avocado is vulva).

Their shops are popular with girls. That's a big market for them.

Fruit was a craze at the time.

Little girls with mums who didn't know buying all manner of stationery with code for cock arse cunt on it, is grim.

They knew who it would appeal to and that they would be naive.

Idea of girls walking down the street and creepy men saying ooh I like your bag etc. Or taking their new stuff out at school and more knowing kids laughing at them.

It's a no from me.

I mean I wasn't crazy angry or anything just a bit. Why? Especially when you know who your shop is popular with.

I remember the tits stuff as well.

And the cards they had to take off the shelves. Again- they know loads of kids shop in there. How hard is it too keep it relatively clean?!

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 21:21

Hang on. I didn't know about this. I had a primary-aged kid who loved their fruit and veg range. He adores pictures of little vegetables with faces. It's his thing, so I bought it for him.

There are people who sexualise that?!

Sidewalksue · 20/03/2021 21:41

I’m glad they’re doing badly and closing stores if this is the shit they are peddling. I used to LOVE paper chase, such a treat to go to a city and visit one. Not now

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 22:15

Pothole if it was the ones a couple of years back with

Aubergine (cock)
Peach (arse and it really looked like a bum)
Avocado (??? Apparently vulva)

Then yes. The aubergine has been used for ages to mean cock on watsapp etc.

🍆🍑🥑

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 22:15

Really not sure about the avocado Grin

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 22:20

Flippin' heck. Thankfully for me, I think it was mostly stuff with smiley satsumas that I bought. But I shouldn't be having to double-check that I didn't buy a child a water bottle for school with emoji slang for genitals on it. Angry

ChattyLion · 20/03/2021 22:29

Moon Friday!! Grin

Aubergine has been a cock emoji since round here was all fields, peach has been bum for quite a while, avocado not sure, but yes now we have to Google everything just in case. Btw I was always the child who knew nothing about current events, if I was a child now I probably would be mighty embarrassed.
NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 22:32

This was a particular line and it only had those things in various combinations Hmm on them.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/03/2021 23:36

I'm pretty sure an aubergine emoji in certain contexts may get you a deletion.

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 23:47

There was an interesting legal case in Israel that hinged on what emojis could be reasonably interpreted as legal agreement.

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/03/2021 07:02

Putting the sexualised fruit, the bums, the breasts and the vile valentines cards together, I see nothing about female empowerment. Quite the reverse. And something very close to grooming.

EdgeOfACoin · 21/03/2021 07:17

Margaret Thatcher, Angela Merkel and Jacinda Ardern all got into power because of their empowering knickers, right?

Oh no, wait...

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 21/03/2021 07:20

I originally stopped shopping at my local Paperchase because I seemed to spend more time fending off offers for their store card, etc, etc, than I did choosing & buying what I wanted. But now it looks like I wouldn’t want to give them my money anyway.
