"Feel empowered... uplift and motivate... supporting the Campaign for Female Education" ... by buying a notebook with a load of women's arses in their knickers on the cover.

Slow handclap for @FromPaperchase t.co/WwyKpOqp17

Yep not for the first time. Crude drawing of "tits" in stationery has been available for some time. Personally I've never been convinced by the narrative"it's empowering cos we say so" and am disappointed in them.

30PercentRecycled · 19/03/2021 23:39

Oh look, what a shocker

BlackeyedSusan · 20/03/2021 00:00

Isn't that transphobic? Saying they only got the job because of their LGBT status?

BlackeyedSusan · 20/03/2021 00:00

They need to make the tweet clearer if not.

Tablegs · 20/03/2021 00:06

I don't care if they are a 'queer and trans couple' or not. They could identify as duck-billed platypuses and it would make no difference.

The product is still awful.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/03/2021 00:09

This image has become a symbol of female empowerment & recognised as such in this form,

No it hasn't.Confused what a plonker.

Viviennemary · 20/03/2021 00:17

A shop full of the worst unnecessary tat. Nobody needs anything in that shop.

@bootlebum

UGH

What on earth are they thinking. Is this empowering? So powerful men have notebooks covered in male arses do they?

Yeah. If arses are really empowering, then where are all the notebooks covered in male arses?
WorkingItOutAsIGo · 20/03/2021 01:25

I would bet women are 90% of the spending at Paperchase. Do they think we are stupid? They are certainly treating us as if we are.

vimtosogood · 20/03/2021 01:28

We already have arse paper. It comes in rolls.

Doyoumind · 20/03/2021 01:35

WTF. They've been well and truly trolled by those artists in a bid to be woke. I just don't know who the target is for this. Hope they all end up in the bin. They will definitely be turning up in bulk in the sale.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/03/2021 01:36

If my house is anything to go by, they wouldn't be able to take them to work because they'd be constantly scratching them.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/03/2021 01:37

And they are all white, aren't they?

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 01:58

Did the artists behind the arse notebook consent to have their sexuality and/or transgender status broadcast on twitter by Paperchase?

continuallyconflating · 20/03/2021 02:07

Yeah they blast it all over
I went and looked at their site
They use that wierd "power couple" thing there as well
More problematic for Paperchase is they refer to them as a lesbian couple on their shop page
I wonder if they A/B tested the sales depending on the wording, or if it's just not been updated

Nitpickpicnic · 20/03/2021 02:09

I’m speechless. I don’t know any born and raised girl or woman who would think this design ‘fun’, ‘cute’ or in any way ‘empowering’.

If the patriarchy had a logo, it’d be detached female body parts. Double points if it’s parts they’d like to penetrate.

It’s like the trans community are borrowing from the patriarchy and then trying to sell our now-fetishised body parts back to us? Why doesn’t that feel like a move in the right direction for society to me?

And let me just add- ‘Diversity, my arse.’

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/03/2021 02:34

So much this.

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 03:50

They have form.
They had to remove a load of recommended explicit cards.

Also when fruit was a craze for primary age girls they did a massive range with. Aubergine, peach.

Knowing full well this would mean innocent girls walking around with water bottles with emoji for cock' on them etc.

They know who buys their stuff and that was really shit.

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 20/03/2021 03:52

What in the name of HELL... Confused

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 03:53

I was just coming on this thread to post something like that, NiceGerbil.

Every year or so there is a thread on mumsnet about the latest inappropriate card from Paperchase.

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 03:58

They're arseholes.

Shame because I like their shops

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/03/2021 04:47

Awful. Typical MO to associate female sexual degradation with the “empowerment” of women. And a zero for diversity. Totally to do with white males feeling empowered.

Helleofabore · 20/03/2021 05:23

If you read the replies, there seems to be a unsurprising theme considering the artists. It is being sold as ‘body positive’ and some go on to point out people are also anti sexwork if they don’t think this is empowering. Hmm

In fact, one recent experimental mn user keeps piping up to tell people its ok, it about being body positive.

I did like one guy showing the pic to their friends who, from his report back, started rating them before he told them it was supposed to be empowering for women. Rather shows the point nicely.

Also, I did not see my muffin top there. They all seemed to have some kind of waist. The one that didn’t was wearing those boxer brief thingoes.
