I don't know if people have heard of her work? But she campaigns for better knowledge of female anatomy. This is after she had cosmetic surgery on her vulva and unwanted surgery (mutilation) on clitoris when she was a teen. The surgery really wasn't needed she was made to feel her genitals were not nice to look at by the surgeons etc and has resulted in many problems.

She campaigns for better understanding of female anatomy as very little was taught in medical school and in medical text books. She's done really well to get it into some major medical text books.

I watch her videos on tiktok and although I wouldn't say I'm gender critical. The attacks she is facing from TRAs does really feed into the things people say here about them and misogy. She also talks about violent threats from TRAs.

So just telling people about her amazing work. But also really struggling not to see silencing of women here and its just awful.

I know of her. Seen her a lot on twitter. Over the last few days, it looks like the twitter horde have started gunning for her.

The insane thing is, Jessica Pin has always strived to be inclusive. She has defended the trans movement before because she said she hadn't personally encountered TRAs attempting to silence her when she talked about female anatomy!

It's never enough, is it?

The people gunning for her are absolute fools though. They are bringing themselves, front and centre, to her attention. They aren't going to gain her full compliance. They're just going to lose the support she willingly gave them before.

PotholeHellhole · 16/03/2021 00:09

Bloody hell.

They are giving her the full treatment they meted out to Hibo Wardere. To a woman who has consistently had trans people's backs.

The total fools.

Doyoumind · 16/03/2021 00:15

This is where being kind gets you nowadays. She made the mistake of advocating for something she hadn't fully understood and believing biology matters. I wish more people would wake up to the harm being kind has already done.

Socrates11 · 16/03/2021 00:25

Yes I've followed her for a while on n Twitter, like OP says Pin is very focused on improving anatomical knowledge, especially for medics. That's all she does really, sad it's so bloody necessary #InvisibleWomen

NiceGerbil · 16/03/2021 00:27

Oh FGS.

Anyone got a link to the shit she's getting?

Her crime is to talk about female sexual anatomy obv.

The 'a clit and a penis are the same just different sizes' etc people clearly don't know about the internal structure. And why would they? Many women don't know.

Linking female reproductive/sexual anatomy to girls and women is simply not allowed.

And giving a woman a good kicking is always fun.

PotholeHellhole · 16/03/2021 00:41

Her user name is @MediClit, NiceGerbil. It's all in the comments under her recent tweets.

continuallyconflating · 16/03/2021 01:18

Poor woman
They've found her

Okbussitout · 16/03/2021 08:26

I do have a twitter account but use it mainly for following stuff from my work sector. I find it a bit of a cesspit. But discovered tiktok last year and love it. It's normally a really supportive non showy community. Loads of mental health and neurodivergent support. With cure animals, travel, food and crafts too. It's genuinely been great for me during lockdown.

So what I'm seeing is mainly on tiktok and it makes me sad because it was such a lovely space. But obviously it's not just that it's the seeming need to remove words from women to talk about things that happen to them. As pp say she has been really inclusive but I feel like she's been driven to actually exclude trans people from the hate she gets.

I think I'm at a similar point where I have tried and do still try to be inclusive. But I'm starting to feel its never enough. Are they asking these things about anti circumcision activists? Why is it always the women they go after?

I posted about feeling things have gone too far not long ago. I can't help but feel women are being driven to these defensive positions.

I do feel that many of the people spending time abusing her and TRAs in general are very young white and mainly allies not actually trans people.

Oh. I just saw her tweet about having to spend $150 on a taxi to go to a hospital because her nearest wouldn’t see her due to her ‘activism’.

It was the first I have come across her.

Here you go Ok

twitter.com/mediclit/status/1371569618343456769?s=21

I notice she has clarified her stance on what is a woman. But makes the distinction about who is female.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 16/03/2021 09:25

Okbussitout it’s the journey many of us have been on. 3 years ago I was full on ‘be kind/of course TW don’t believe they are literal women! No one would think that’

But then I realised that it didnt matter how much we were ‘kind’ nothing less than total & utter capitulation was enough! It was ‘here are our demands, you will give us everything in them and by tomorrow the demands will have changed so stay awake!!!!’

Okbussitout · 16/03/2021 10:55

I suppose I feel like TRAs are pushing women like Jessica into what they see as an anti trans position. As if she fully gave in she then couldn't do her work as she would not be able to use the words needed.

Similarly I feel like I'm being pushed into either being entirely for whatever random shit is up next or I'm a Terf or gender critical, depending or who's saying it. When I actually neither position is true I don't think.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/03/2021 11:21

Women and feminists have been arguing against the gender binary and biological determinism in modern western thought for over a hundred years and now TERFs want to revive it because of their trans panic fears. This is why they aren’t popular, despite all these in your mentions. Jesus. They keep doing this too! Nonsensical!

Do they not have any logic at all?

Don't asnwer that Smile

WarriorN · 16/03/2021 11:45

Wtf?!

No logic

That poor woman, I will be sharing her story far and wide.

"Terfs" aren't reviving anything; it's well known women's health and biology has been woefully ignored for centuries, and is still ignored.

WarriorN · 16/03/2021 11:45

Anatomy and physiology specifically

CuriousaboutSamphire · 16/03/2021 11:51

@WarriorN

Anatomy and physiology specifically
I am still battling a FB twonk about that! A friend is now threatening to shut it down by telling him precisely what my credentials are - he has suggested my only credentials to be able to talk about female anatomy is having been identified as female at birth.

My how some of my ex students are having a laugh in PMs Grin But I am quite enjoying the hole he is digging.

I feel like it really sticks with me because she has personal experience of basically mutilation of her genitals by a surgeon. Because he had decided what was aesthetically pleasing.

Would TRAs feel OK speaking this way to someone who had experienced fgm as a child? 2ould they be saying what about trans women? Or perhaps they know hey are luckily not vulnerable in this way as children?

"Would TRAs feel OK speaking this way to someone who had experienced fgm as a child?"

I was under the impression that Hibo Wardere had had some of this attention (though I've not seen the tweets referenced in this thread): www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3935842-Take-the-F-out-of-FGM

NecessaryScene1 · 16/03/2021 15:11

Would TRAs feel OK...

As a rule the answer to that is "yes" for any action they might take towards another person.

I think it's their Golden Rule: "do unto others whatever the fuck you like - they're all bigots".

PotholeHellhole · 16/03/2021 16:22

This is the most recent attack on an FGM campaigner.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 16/03/2021 16:43

I have been following JP for a while. She's a bit IN YOUR FACE in style, but that's why she has been such a successful campaigner. She knows how to use social media.

I mean, she did research on cadavers to get anatomy references published so she could get the basics of the details of this sex organ into the books! That's commitment.

What fascinates me is the silencing techniques the medics use on her. Same old, same old, "woman, shut up, a doctor is speaking now".

More power to her. I hope someone sends her this page.
