Sisters Uncut

Sisters uncut who are said to be a driving force in turning last nights gathering from a vigil to a protest are now protesting on behalf of “women murdered by the state”.

Two of these “women” are rapists who brutalised children.

How can anyone be ok with this?

Am I right in remembering that Sisters Uncut were supporting Maria McLachlan's attacker?

Yes.

"#FREETHESHEWOLF TOMORROW & FRIDAY, HENDON MAGISTRATES COURT 9am. Please join Trans Survival, Trans Defence to show your support in and outside court for the trial of a young trans womanTwo heartsBlue heart support your sisters not just your cisters Purple heartGreen heart

And given their belief in anti-carceral feminism, it seems a bit ironic that Wolf’s supporters then called the police on seeing the two terrifying-looking women in the top photo approaching the pub they were in after the trial...

Is Patsy Stevenson (the woman arrested) part of Sisters Uncut?

I do wonder if that’s why the police launched on a well part of it anyway. They knew that certain groups were there and there seemed to be a video of a man yelling about Covid, lockdowns (victim blaming on a new level of offensiveness). Looking at the photos that have made the front pages of the arrest ... I dunno... most photos I’ve seen of people being dragged by the police look like a creaming banshee, snot and hair all over the place with a look of terror. The lighting was superb...

If you look at other protests and rallies - the skateboard with XR protestors at illegal road/bridge blockades, kneel at BLM rallies (some of which got violent/damaging) and paint their faces and cars (and stations, social media accounts, websites...) and dance at Pride events (and have their photos taken patting ‘pups’ and then standing beside menacing billboards with laws that done exist on them). There are sacred cows and there are... women.

I would have loved to see a small police presence - they could have worn a ribbon or flipping flower - standing as if to be there to show their solidarity and as a protecting presence for women.

Sorry should have said I'm aware of sisters uncut as a group and I my area aware of their work regarding a women's refuge. I went to a meeting once actually. It was very focused on meeting with the council re these cuts so not much about their ideology.

I'm not gender critical but I do think there are some issues with sex based right. I know that you who are cg don't get how I can think this but not be cg.

Anyway watching this video it's really very hard not to see this as a bunch of men intimidating a woman/women. I also know that as a woman there is no pressure to look a certain way or be 'pretty'. But at times like this there's something a bit offensive about putting on some make up badly and wearing a padded bra. It's like dressing up as a woman. God that sounds awful. I think what I mean is if this group weren't telling women how to be women or feminists this dress up wouldn't be as offensive.

I'm not doing mega well today with my back and changing my anxiety meds. And in all honesty this is upsetting me. It just feels endless.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/03/2021 10:26

However dodgy Sisters Uncut are - and they most definitely are - it still doesn’t excuse what happened to Patsy Stevenson. I want to be clear on that.

Okbussitout · 15/03/2021 10:29

Oh I just realise is it non covid times so the masks aren't for covid safety?!

*A note on some of the ‘murdered by the state’ transwomen entries here:

Jade Eatough- male who raped two teen girls, transitioned in prison. Suicide, not murder.

Joanne Latham- male serving life for 3 attempted murders. Suicide, not murder.

Jenny Swift- male on remand for murder. Suicide, not murder.

Nicola Cope- male serial rapist and child sex abuser. He raped 9 women. Suicide, not murder.

This is insane. We are expected to embrace these men who kill and rape as our ‘sisters’. We are comparing their own decisions to take their lives to women being murdered for just trying to walk home. I am so dismayed that women are retweeting this - mourning the suicides of rapists and murderers. What the hell is going on?

Just to clarify, I was wrong that Cope raped 9 women. It was 9 counts of rape against two young girls. One was 4 when it started.*

I've read elsewhere that patsy isn't a part of sisters uncut, but another group. Possibly 'women's strike?' Or SWP. Unconfirmed.

WarriorN · 15/03/2021 10:34

Bold fail, I've copied the text from the tweets, last para my own.

When was this? I do recall them being a real sensible group when formed in the 2000s. Are they still operating a sensible moderate campaigning wing?

toffeebutterpopcorn · 15/03/2021 10:39

I seem to remember reading that ‘new’ people joined with a different focus - and older members bailed.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 15/03/2021 10:55

Sisters Uncut are lowest of the low and aiming down from there. They nee as much sunlight on them as possible.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/03/2021 10:56

A familiar pattern.

MaudTheInvincible · 15/03/2021 10:58

@Ereshkigalangcleg

It will just give men another 'mad feminists' stick to beat us with.

Good point Sad

Yes I saw just such a man on twitter claiming that the police's behaviour at the vigil was all the fault of 'radical feminists' who were reaping what they'd sown. Many women pointed out to him that these people are about as far removed from radical feminists as it's possible to get, that they saw their use of the term feminist as an abomination, and that they were seen as working very much for the patriarchy.

I don't think he was listening though.

NecessaryScene1 · 15/03/2021 11:03

Some fantastic stuff on this thread - if this group are getting some press because of the recent case, it seems like a good opportunity for some decent journalists to get the word out.

Seems like something that would have general "wtf?" interest beyond feminist circles. "Anti-women women's group" is newsworthy. Private Eye, James Kirkup...?

Anyone with contacts like that should point them at this thread.

I found this picture of the SU protest at the "Suffragette" film premiere of a group of women lying on the floor. The red-haired woman talking to the man standing over them looks rather familiar if you know what I'm saying, at least to me anyway.

Janice Turner is on the case:

"Alarming that Sisters Uncut members & others are making statements which could jeopardise trial of man charged with killing Sarah Everard. Such activists don’t care about making the world materially better for women. Causes are just levers to fuel their outrage machine."

CaveMum - I’m not often wrong... but I have a good nose.

At last 3 years studying psychology and contextual analysis has finally paid of (what’s in this image, what story are they telling, who controls the narrative, who are the key players, what are they doing, how has it been framed, who created the image, is there any attempted conscious manipulation of the narrative, what is the lighting like...

Umm late 2016 or early 2017. As I remember it was winter as it was cold and the first one when I'd moved to they city I now live in. It was very much a sort of lobbying approach to activism. From this branch at that time.. I think it petered out form just the time commitments of people involved but not sure.
WarriorN · 15/03/2021 11:14

Very good piece on woman's hour today about all this.

Also noted the image of an arrested woman splashed across papers was white.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 15/03/2021 11:15

Why does her colour matter? I’ve seen people in SM try to make this a kit colour. I don’t get it - are we not all women battling the same sexism?

WendyTestaburger · 15/03/2021 11:16

Before the vigil there were a few tweets asking if the event was going to be for transwomen too, as apparently allies wanted to show support.

If the organisers had said no, this is a female only event, I wonder if Sisters Uncut would have turned up to protest the vigil?

SunsetBeetch · 15/03/2021 11:17

What does this have to do with Sarah's death?

"Chants of 'fuck Starmer' at the Sister's Uncut protest today at New Scotland Yard do not bode well for his future as Labour leader"

And no, Jason, you are NOT a feminist.

Thecatonthemat · 15/03/2021 11:22

Wendy yes of course they wanted men and tw there. Not interested in commemorating Sarah, but actively promoting males at the expense of women.
