Helen Mary Jones statement. Plaid cymru politician apologises for transphobia and will seek re-education

The Plaid politician has put this linked statement on twitter, in which she apologises for previous transphobic comments causing harm and for retweeting transphobes. She says she accepts Plaid Cymry's belief in the 'inalienable right' to self determine your own gender, and to access single sex facilities of your gender. She and others will get training from an external organisation approved by the trans community.

Her account will be deactivated soon could someone do a screen shot? Can't do it on my phone.

What a shame.

and to access single sex facilities of your gender

I wish it was ok to just say it out loud 'sex and gender are not the same thing' without fear of being sacked.

BraveBananaBadge · 10/03/2021 18:24

Screenshot. The new account is not run by her, but features news from her 'team'.

It's like watching someone who's been captured by ISIS.

Biscuitsanddoombar · 10/03/2021 18:32

The council were merciful

I’m so tired of smart confident women being made to grovel by ppl barely into adulthood

Well good luck with that Mary.

I've honestly got no time left for anyone this unbelievably sexist towards women.

terryleather · 10/03/2021 18:35

The thing is even full capitulation will never be enough, there will always be the possibility of further wrongthink because the rules are ever changing and it's designed to be that way because it's a power play - pure and simple.

Manderleyagain · 10/03/2021 18:50

It surprises me that some trans rights ppl are saying this is a v good apology. Why can't they recognise a forced, scripted apology when they see it? They must have never seen a genuine, heart felt apology, written in the person's own words.

She has been relentlessly bullied over this issue. I really feel for her, though I'm disappointed.
Anyway, will leave Plaid tomorrow- long overdue really- and set up a standing order to Woman's Place/ Fair Play for Women instead.

I hope Helen has less stress in her life now anyway. It must have been a really hard time for her.

Thingybob · 10/03/2021 18:51

That statement is so sinister.

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 18:53

Sinister. Mary, I'd make a run for it now, before you have to parrot it out in person. If you can escape that is?

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 18:53

X post Thingy

TheRabbitOfCaerbannog · 10/03/2021 18:54

Or indeed 'Helen Mary'

WinterIsGone · 10/03/2021 18:55

Did you notice there was one phrase there in a different font: "up to the trans community whether or not it accepts".

Do you think it's a secret message...!

Charley50 · 10/03/2021 18:58

These forced apologies and re-education are like China under Chairman Mao. So sinister.

Yes I noticed that.

She is mouthing the words but singing a different tune.

They can, and that's why it's a good apology.

A bad apology is one where the apologiser clearly still has some vestige of power/dignity/free will.

Shedbuilder · 10/03/2021 19:22

Yup, Plaid has gone Maoist.

HMJ has been around long enough and understands the TRAs well enough to know that whatever she says it can never be enough.

For those who aren't aware, Plaid is led by Adam Price, a gay man who is having a baby with a surrogate. I note, Adam, that when it comes to choosing someone to gestate your child you've chosen a woman of the cunty kind.

I also understand from friends in Wales that Mark Drakeford, First Minister (Labour) has today issued a TWAW statement. Stonewall Cymru, to whom all LGB and T issues have been outsourced for some years now, has clearly been very busy.

Abhannmor · 10/03/2021 19:30

Will there be a sane splinter from Plaid I wonder - as has already happened in Scotland with the formation of the ISP? It is sad of course but what else can people do?

winterinmadeira · 10/03/2021 19:34

Oh please no, Drakeford hasn’t has he? I’m going to look now. I’m not a Plaid supporter but HMJ has been a good politician particularly in relation to health.

crumpet · 10/03/2021 19:38

I saw the apology but so far haven’t found any information about her supposed crime which led to this. What was it about?

Maduixa · 10/03/2021 19:40

Ugh. Sorry to hear this. I didn't agree with her on a lot, but she was the only person in the Senedd and in PC who seemed to be able to think creatively and go off script. And so sad it happens now - just as Plaid seemed to be making some headway, they show their arse to the world! Oh, well - wait another few decades, and someone else will push for independence, as PC obviously don't want it (nor understand what it is).

NecessaryScene1 · 10/03/2021 19:41

What was it about?

Maya has posted a bit about it:

twitter.com/MForstater/status/1369713100321157120

crumpet · 10/03/2021 19:41

Found it: www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55259522.amp

I feel sorry that she was pushed into this step

crumpet · 10/03/2021 19:42

Ah - thanks. I earlier saw Maya had posted the apology, but it was before she had posted the background

Maduixa · 10/03/2021 19:44

She likes a tweet from Professor Rosa Freedman, who anti-woman activists claim is "transphobic".
